  • The charging methods of electric vehicles are divided into wired charging and wireless charging. Restrictions on the use of charging infrastructure for wireless charging vehicles currently exist because most charging infrastructure uses the wired charging method. Thus, wired and wireless integrated charging system has been studied. In this system, a wireless charging system especially requires a control method for high-efficiency operation in consideration of a change in a coupling coefficient. Therefore, this paper introduces two control methods for the high-efficiency operation of wireless charging that can be applied to wired and wireless integrated charging systems. In addition, loss analysis is performed through PSIM simulation to select a more advantageous method for high-efficiency operation among the two control methods. To verify the simulation-based loss analysis result, the two control methods are applied to the actual wireless charging system, and the efficiency is compared through the experiments Based on the experimental results, a control method suitable for high-efficiency operation of the wireless charging method is selected.

Filtration Efficiency of Electrically Charged Air Filters by a Corona Method

  • The influences of corona charging parameters on collection efficiency and surface potential of air filters were investigated. A polypropylene filter medium was electrically charged using a corona charger, and the resulting surface potential and filtration efficiency against neutralized KCl particles were measured. The filter media was charged under different conditions of applied voltage, voltage polarity, charging time, and distance between electrodes. In addition, we considered charging both sides of the filter as well as charging one side of the filter. As a result, electrical force obtained by charged fiber affected filtration efficiency when the apply voltage strength was higher than 7 kV. Negatively charged filter had higher filtration efficiency than positively charged filter while the surface potential of the negatively charged filter was slightly lower than those of positively charged filter. Moreover, the filtration efficiency increased as the charging time of filter fiber increased and the distance between electrodes decreased. The filtration efficiency was more sensitive to changes of charging time than to those of electrode distance, and the efficiency of both sides charged filter was higher than that of single side charged filter.

  • It is difficult to analyze the charging characteristics of the lead-acid battery, because of the influences by various non-linear and time-variant parameters. In this study, the charging characteristics of high capacity industrial lead-acid battery 630 Ah was investigated through experiments with respect to the variations of temperature and the aged state of battery during the charging process. The database of those characteristics is established from the results of experiments, and the fuzzy logic charging algorithm is suggested using them. The results of experiment shows that the industrial lead-acid batteries can be always fully charged within the saved charging time by the proposed charging control algorithm adapting to the variations of charging condition. This new charging concept will be useful for developing the advanced battery charger improving the efficiency of storing electricity.

  • Evaluating the operational efficiency of electric vehicle charging stations (EVCSs) is important to understand charging network evolution and the charging behavior of electric vehicle users. However, aggregation of efficiency performance metrics poses a significant challenge to practitioners and researchers. In general, the operational efficiency of EVCSs can be measured as a complicated function of various factors with multiple criteria. Such a complex aspect of managing EVCSs becomes one of the challenging issues to measure their operational efficiency. Considering the difficulty in the efficiency measurement, this paper suggests a way to measure the operational efficiency of EVCSs based on data envelopment analysis (DEA). The DEA model is formulated as constant returns of output-oriented model with five types of inputs, four of them are the numbers of floating population and nearby charging stations, distance of nearby charging stations and traffic volume as desirable inputs and the other is the traffic speed in congestion as undesirable one. Meanwhile, the output is given by the charging frequency of EVCSs in a day. Using real-world data obtained from reliable sources, we suggest operational efficiencies of EVCSs in Seoul and discuss implications on the development of electric vehicle charging network. The result of efficiency measurement shows that most of EVCSs in Seoul are inefficient, while some districts (Nowon-gu, Dongdaemun-gu, Dongjak-gu, Songpa-gu, Guro-gu) have relatively more efficient EVCSs than the others.

  • From a theoretical analysis point of view, the 2-stage precipitator is decomposed into two units: charging cell and collecting cell. Collection efficiency predictions of the two-stage parallel-plate electrostatic precipitator have been performed theoretically incorporating with the charging and the collecting cells. Particle trajectorise passing the charging cell have been modeled as a simple one. Particle charge distribution at the outlet of the charging cell is calculated through integration of the present unipolar combined charging rate along the entire particle trajectory, and average charge of particles at the outlet of the charging cell is obtained from the particle charge distribution. As for the collecting cell, the diminution of particle concentration along the longitudinal direction of the collecting cell is investigated considering the conventional Deutsch's theory and the laminar theory. One should note that the collection efficiency formula derived is based on monodisperse aerosols. It has been confirmed through the analysis that predictions of particle charge by applying White's unipolar diffusion charging theory overpredict actual cases in the continuum regime, while predictions by Fuch's unipolar diffusion charging theory indicate the reasonable result in the same regime. Theoretical predictions of collection efficiency are also compared with the available experimental results. Comparisons show that the experimental results are consistently located in the collection efficiency region bounded by the two limits, the Deutsch and the laminar collection efficiencies. Finally design parameters of the 2-stage electrostatic precipitator have been investigated systematically through the one-variable-at-a-time method in terms of collection efficiency. Applied voltages on the corona wire of the charging cell and the plate of the collecting cell, and the average air velocity have been selected as the design parameters.

Demand-based charging strategy for wireless rechargeable sensor networks

  • A wireless power transfer technique can solve the power capacity problem in wireless rechargeable sensor networks (WRSNs). The charging strategy is a wide-spread research problem. In this paper, we propose a demand-based charging strategy (DBCS) for WRSNs. We improved the charging programming in four ways: clustering method, selecting to-be-charged nodes, charging path, and charging schedule. First, we proposed a multipoint improved K-means (MIKmeans) clustering algorithm to balance the energy consumption, which can group nodes based on location, residual energy, and historical contribution. Second, the dynamic selection algorithm for charging nodes (DSACN) was proposed to select on-demand charging nodes. Third, we designed simulated annealing based on performance and efficiency (SABPE) to optimize the charging path for a mobile charging vehicle (MCV) and reduce the charging time. Last, we proposed the DBCS to enhance the efficiency of the MCV. Simulations reveal that the strategy can achieve better performance in terms of reducing the charging path, thus increasing communication effectiveness and residual energy utility.

Permalloy를 이용한 효율적 인 무선 전력송신 기술 (An Effective Wireless Power Transfer Technique using Permalloy)

  • 일반적으로 무선(비접촉식) 충전 장치는 Ferrosilicon 혹은 Ferrite 와 같은 코어를 사용하여 충전 효율을 높이고 있다. 본 논문에서는 무선충전 장치에 있어서 투자율이 더 높은 Permalloy를 이용하여 비접촉방식 충전 효율을 극대화한 무선 전력송신 기술을 제안한다. 기존의 Ferrosilicon 혹은 Ferrite 코어 재료보다 Permalloy를 이용할 경우 높은 효율의 투자율을 얻을 수 있으며 기존 비접촉식 충전 기술과의 비교 실험을 통해 더 높은 충전 효율과 무선 충전 거리를 확보할 수 있었다. 본 연구에서 개발된 무선 전력송신 기술은 향후 소형 휴대용 충전기기에 유용하게 적용 할 수 있을 것이다.

  • It was reported by some researchers that two-stage parallel-plate ESPs, commonly called electronic air cleaners, show decreasing behavior of collection efficiency as particle size decreases below about $0.03{\mu}m$. This phenomenon is attributed to partial particle charging characteristics, where some of incoming particles are not charged in the charging cell of 2-stage parallel-plate ESP. One way to improve the decreasing collection efficieny in that particle size range is to enforce particle charging quantity in the charging cell. In the present study, in order to do this a 2-wire series-type charging cell modified from a 1-wire normal-type one was suggested and investigated theoretically and experimentally concerning improvement of the collection efficiency. It was confirmed from the experimental and theoretical works that the collection efficiency was apparently improved.

다기간 자료포락분석을 이용한 전기차 충전소 효율성 변화 분석 (Analysis on the Efficiency Change in Electric Vehicle Charging Stations Using Multi-Period Data Envelopment Analysis)

  • It is highly challenging to measure the efficiency of electric vehicle charging stations (EVCSs) because factors affecting operational characteristics of EVCSs are time-varying in practice. For the efficiency measurement, environmental factors around the EVCSs can be considered because such factors affect charging behaviors of electric vehicle drivers, resulting in variations of accessibility and attractiveness for the EVCSs. Considering dynamics of the factors, this paper examines the technical efficiency of 622 electric vehicle charging stations in Seoul using data envelopment analysis (DEA). The DEA is formulated as a multi-period output-oriented constant return to scale model. Five inputs including floating population, number of nearby EVCSs, average distance of nearby EVCSs, traffic volume and traffic congestion are considered and the charging frequency of EVCSs is used as the output. The result of efficiency measurement shows that not many EVCSs has most of charging demand at certain periods of time, while the others are facing with anemic charging demand. Tobit regression analyses show that the traffic congestion negatively affects the efficiency of EVCSs, while the traffic volume and the number of nearby EVCSs are positive factors improving the efficiency around EVCSs. We draw some notable characteristics of efficient EVCSs by comparing means of the inputs related to the groups classified by K-means clustering algorithm. This analysis presents that efficient EVCSs can be generally characterized with the high number of nearby EVCSs and low level of the traffic congestion.

모바일 무선충전 효율 및 충전 자유도 개선을 위한 3차원 이중 송신 코일시스템 (Three-Dimensional Magnetic Resonant Coil System with Double Transmitter Coil for Enhancement of Wireless Charging Efficiency and Charging Flexibility)

  • 무선충전 기술은 사용자가 선 없이 충전할 수 있는 편리함의 이점으로 많은 모바일 전자기기의 필수요소로 자리 잡게 되었고, 지속적인 연구 개발에 의해 다양한 무선충전 시스템이 제안되고 있다. 대표적인 무선충전 시스템으로는 송수신 코일의 배치와 충전효율의 상관관계를 고려하여, 송수신 코일을 근거리 평면에 배치한 2D 평면 코일 시스템이 주로 사용되어왔다. 최근에는 평면으로 넓은 공간을 차지하는 2D 코일시스템에 높이구배를 주어, 공간을 효율적으로 사용하기 위한 3차원 코일시스템이 제안되고 있다. 하지만, 3차원 코일시스템은 2D 코일시스템에 비해 충전효율이 낮고, 특히 송수신 코일간의 거리가 멀어질수록 전력전송 효율이 급격하게 저하되는 경향이 있다. 본 논문에서는 기존 3차원 코일시스템의 단점인 낮은 충전효율과 충전자유도를 개선하기 위해 새로운 무선충전 시스템 설계를 제안한다. 3차원 형상으로 송신코일과 수신코일을 설계하였고, 이때 송신코일 내부에 독립된 송신코일을 추가로 구성한 이중 송신코일 구조를 제안하여 전송효율과 자유도를 개선할 수 있었다. 측정실험 결과, 107 kHz 동작주파수에서 송수신 코일의 거리가 8 mm일 때 제안한 시스템의 효율은 40.10 %로 기존 코일의 최대전송효율인 20.5 %에 비해 크게 증가했다. 본 논문에서 제안한 3차원 이중송수신 코일시스템은 실제 무선충전 시스템 설계 시 다양한 디자인의 무선충전 시스템 설계 및 충전효율 개선에 기여할 것으로 기대된다.
