Optimal Charging and Discharging for Multiple PHEVs with Demand Side Management in Vehicle-to-Building

  • Plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) will be widely used in future transportation systems to reduce oil fuel consumption. Therefore, the electrical energy demand will be increased due to the charging of a large number of vehicles. Without intelligent control strategies, the charging process can easily overload the electricity grid at peak hours. In this paper, we consider a smart charging and discharging process for multiple PHEVs in a building's garage to optimize the energy consumption profile of the building. We formulate a centralized optimization problem in which the building controller or planner aims to minimize the square Euclidean distance between the instantaneous energy demand and the average demand of the building by controlling the charging and discharging schedules of PHEVs (or 'users'). The PHEVs' batteries will be charged during low-demand periods and discharged during high-demand periods in order to reduce the peak load of the building. In a decentralized system, we design an energy cost-sharing model and apply a non-cooperative approach to formulate an energy charging and discharging scheduling game, in which the players are the users, their strategies are the battery charging and discharging schedules, and the utility function of each user is defined as the negative total energy payment to the building. Based on the game theory setup, we also propose a distributed algorithm in which each PHEV independently selects its best strategy to maximize the utility function. The PHEVs update the building planner with their energy charging and discharging schedules. We also show that the PHEV owners will have an incentive to participate in the energy charging and discharging game. Simulation results verify that the proposed distributed algorithm will minimize the peak load and the total energy cost simultaneously.

  • We already fabricated a proto-type HTS charging system with photovoltaic (PV) system and obtained design parameters for DC converter and HTS charging system. In order to develop the real scale charging system efficiently, we suggested a maximum power point tracking (MPPT) controller using a perturb and observe (P&O) MPPT algorithm for PV system. In this paper, we designed and simulated the MPPT controller for the real scale HTS charging system. As well as, the PV module has been analyzed by solving solar cell equivalent equations. The simulated and theoretical results presented here are being considered the next study which addresses the design and fabrication parameters.

  • In this paper, a battery charging system for Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) and Electric Vehicle (EV), and operation algorithm of charging system are introduced. Also, the proposed charging system uses commercial electricity in order to charge the battery of parked PHEV and 48V battery charging system with power factor controllable single phase converter for PHEV is investigated in this paper. This research verifies the power factor control of input and the converter output controlled by the charge control algorithm through simulation and experiment.

  • This paper proposes the battery charging algorithm for small-scale wind power generator using three phase PWM converter. it is impossible to control output power of the converter in over wind speed region since back EMF of PMSG is higer than battery voltage. Therefore, battery charging algorithm is proposed to expand battery charging over wind speed region. The suggested method is using the q-axis current for battery charging in the rated wind speed region. In the over wind speed region after it lower back EMF of PMSG using d-axis current it can control output power of the converter. The validity of the proposed algorithm are verified by experiments.

  • This paper presents battery charging method using 3-phase AC-DC boost converter. General battery charging method is that charging the battery voltage to the reference voltage according to the constant current(CC) control, when it reaches the reference voltage, charging the battery fully according to the constant voltage(CV) control. However, battery chaging time is increased because of the battery impedance, constant current charging section which shoud take the large amount of charge is narrow, and constant voltage charging section which can generate insufficient charge is widen. To improve this problem, we proposes the method to reduce the charging time according to the SOC(State of Charge) estimation using battery impedance.

  • 항공기 배터리는 항공기의 엔진 시동 전원 및 비상 전원을 공급하는 역할을 하는 핵심 장비이다. 배터리는 안정적인 전원 공급을 위해 언제나 충분한 용량을 보장하도록 충전되어야 하며 높은 신뢰성을 유지해야 한다. T-50 계열 항공기 배터리는 -18 ℃ 이상의 낮은 온도에서 엔진을 최대 2회 시동할 수 있도록 설계하였으나, 겨울철에 엔진 시동에 실패하는 현상이 간헐적으로 발생하였다. 이에 본 논문에서는 배터리의 저온 충전 시 발생하는 실패 현상에 대하여 분석 및 시험을 수행하고 이를 바탕으로 충전 알고리즘을 개선하였다. 또한 저온시동 모사시험을 수행한 결과 저온에서의 배터리 충전 결함이 해결되었으며 충전 성능 향상이 확인되어 새로운 알고리즘의 개선을 확인하였다.

  • In this paper, we develope the navigation system for patrol robots in indoor environment. The proposed system consists of PDA map modelling, a localization algorithm based on a global position sensor and an automatic charging station. For the practical use in security system, the PDA is used to build object map on the given indoor map. And the builded map is downloaded to the mobile robot and used in path planning. The global path planning is performed with a localization sensor and the downloaded map. As a main controller, we use PXA270 based hardware platform in which embedded linux 2.6 is developed. Data handling for various sensors and the localization algorithm are performed in the linux platform. Also, we implemented a local path planning algorithm for object avoidance with ultra sonar sensors. Finally, for the automatic charging, we use an infrared ray system and develop a docking algorithm. The navigation system is experimented with the two-wheeled mobile robot using North-Star localization system.

Revenue Maximizing Scheduling for a Fast Electric Vehicle Charging Station with Solar PV and ESS

  • The modern transportation and mobility sector is expected to encounter high penetration of Electric Vehicles (EVs) because EVs contribute to reducing the harmful emissions from fossil fuel-powered vehicles. With the prospective growth of EVs, sufficient and convenient facilities for fast charging are crucial toward satisfying the EVs' quick charging demand during their trip. Therefore, the Fast Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (FECS) will be a similar role to gas stations. In this paper, we study a charging scheduling problem for the FECS with solar photovoltaic (PV) and an Energy Storage System (ESS). We formulate an optimization problem that minimizes the operational costs of FECS. There are two cost and one revenue terms that are buying cost from main grid power, ESS degradation cost, and revenue from the charging fee of the EVs. Simulation results show that the proposed scheduling algorithm reduces the daily operational cost by effectively using solar PV and ESS.

다기능 인버터의 손실저감을 위한 Buck-Type 충전기법 (Buck-Type Charging Method for Loss Reduction of Multi-Function Inverter)

  • This paper proposes buck-type charging method using motor inductance, 3-phase inverter and bi-directional converter without an additional charger in plug-in hybrid electric vehicles. The proposed system has advantages over the conventional system such as high charging efficiency, high power factor, and low total harmonic distortion. The validity of each methods are verified by theoretical analysis and simulation.

전기 자동차의 충전 모델링을 이용한 배전계통 과부하 분석 (Overload Analysis of Distribution Systems make use of PEVs Charging Modeling)

  • 본 논문은 PEVs가 배전계통 모선에 연계되었을 때 PEVs 보급 시나리오별로 PEVs 일간 충전 패턴에 따라 배전계통 모선별 PEVs 충전 일부하곡선을 산정하여 배전계통 모선별 과부하 영향 평가를 하기 위한 알고리즘을 제시하였다. 제안한 알고리즘은 첫째 배전계통 모선별 가구 수 산출을 위한 PEVs 대수 산출, 둘째 PEVs 운행 특성을 고려한 PEVs 충전시작시간 확률밀도 함수 산출, 셋째 PEVs 보급시나리오별로 배터리 특성을 반영한 해당 모선별 PEVs 충전 일부하곡선을 산출하였다. 넷째 산출된 해당 모선별 PEVs 충전 일부하곡선과 기존 일부 하곡선을 합산하여 PEVs 보급시나리오별로 해당 모선의 과부하 영향 평가를 시행하였다. 추가로 제안된 알고리즘에 대해 배전계통 모선별 과부하 영향 평가 검증을 위해 한국 동탄 신도시의 배전계통 회선의 해당 모선(아파트, 단독주택 지역)을 대상으로 사례 검토를 실시하였다.
