The flat dilatometer test(DMT) is a useful geotechnical tool for estimating in-situ properties of various types of ground materials and the application of flat DMT is increasing. The existing relationships which are used to estimate the design parameters of soft deposit depend on the regional geotechnical characteristics and then it is necessary to investigate the applicability of the flat dilatometer in Korea. In this paper, the flat DMT has been conducted in soft marine deposits. The results estimated by existing relationships and those obtained from laboratory tests were compared. Based on the results, some factors influencing the relationships were examined and adjustment of empirical expression was performed.
We find ourselves living in a post-human era when technology and images coexist with humans. A cyborg, a combination of an organic body and a machine could be called a human fused with a machine. It could be understood as a new species where humans and machines have combined rather than simple protoplasm or an organic body. The purpose of this study is to demonstrate that a concept of a body in post humanism era is finding expression in fashion illustration through cyborg images. The concepts of post humanism and cyborg are analysed by means of research into literature and characteristics in which cyborg images as post humans are expressed through art, and images of a cyborg body in fashion illustration and their meanings are explored with the foregoing as a framework of reference. Cyborg image reflects new images and concept of a human in post humanism. The cyborg body images in fashion illustration are expressed through the addition of mechanical images, digital virtual body, monster image by means of hybrid combination, distorted physical transformation and fragmented body and body absence. And cyborg image in fashion illustration shows the extension of body concepts through the technology and uncertain and ambiguous identity.
The purposes of this study were to find out any significants among somatotypes and face types and importance of image making to successful students' life. The respondents were composed of 181 males and 160 females. It consists of total 29 items including the facial features, personality expression methods, characteristics of body shapes, image making, colors and neckline and their responses were measured with Likert 5-point scale. For data analysis, descriptive statistics, cross-tabulation analysis including $Χ^2$-test and frequency analysis were used. As the results, 47% of male students and 28% of female students responded they were satisfied with their own facial types. 32% of male students and all female students were not satisfied with their own body shapes and fashion depends on accessories like hat, sunglasses, boots and necklace rather than dress itself. All male and female students were not satisfied with their body shapes and recognized the importance of image. They answered that they change image if someone advices their image and it suggests that information and intellectual needs of image making are required and approach to efficient methods of image making is needed.
Daylighting is a powerful vehicle of architectural expression and provides buildings a living quality due to constantly changing properties in intensity and color. As an environmental system, daylighting should be subjected to the same level of rigorous analysis and review that any environmental system receives. For example, increasing cooling loads and causing visual displeasure are easily occurred owing to the excessive sunlight through windows. Therefore, daylighting performance attributes and physical characteristics must be described qualitatively and quantitatively in early design process. In various architectural daylighting performance evaluation methods, the scale model experiment can be applied due to it's simplicity and usefulness. So, this study aims to evaluate the validation of scale model experiments in architectural daylighting performance. For the purpose, two scale model experiments under clear sky are conducted. And, the validation of the experiments are evaluated by computer simulations.
This study has investigated the status and overview of design characteristics of customized shoes, which receives much recognition at domestic and overseas markets. Based on the market research on current consumer lifestyle and needs of the custom-shoes(which is an abbreviation of customized shoes), this study has provided its development directions, views and demands. The design types of custom-shoes have been broadly divide into two: firstly 'style centered custom-shoes'; secondly 'function centered custom-shoes'. Style centered custom-shoes are specifically divided into 3 types; first, formal custom-shoes; second, sports and casual custom-shoes; and lastly, bespoke shoes. Function centered custom-shoes design refers to enhancing the function of personal soleprint which has to be designed by delicately detailed insole and outsole, rather than alignment of exterior parts of the shoes. These are used in professional sports shoes and also include orthopedics footwear and grafted footwear for people who have disabled on foot. Custom footwear market has been highly expanded and has entered value-added market according to increasing interest in foot health and shopping trends on shoes buying like taking shoes as personal expression in accordance with a variety of places and situations. In the near future, custom-shoes can be produced in a couple of days due to the technological advance of 3D scanners and 3D printers. This phenomenon will wants more demands of specific shoes experts such as custom-design consultants or shoes fitting experts, who can overcome limitations of online custom-shoes stores.
The foundation of the development in modern typography is based on the era of International Typographical Style and Modern Typography that valued morphological functionality and rationality to achieve an accurate conveyance of meaning. However, with the advance of postmodernism, the view that the aesthetic and conceptual aspect must be included in its interpretation rather than its rational functionality was prominent. Indeed, the works of Dan Friedman and April Greiman, two graphic designers that are known to be the most representative of the post-modernistic era, displayed that graphic design works can also serve as a method for a more free artistic expression, unlike works of Modern Typography. This move towards aesthetic graphics was first started by Wolfgang Weingart. His various attempts at expanding the concept of typography had a significant impact on the development of New Wave and his experimentalist attitude brought about a ground-breaking change to the functional design and formative expression of modern typography. However, this thesis will consider the theoretical background of the typographical designs displayed in Wiengart's works and the experimental methods thereof, and will not attempt to evaluate Weingart's pioneering role and achievements. Furthermore, this thesis will shed new light on the argument that the Weingart's works are not based on the authorship view of post-modernistic typography and are rather utilized to expand the concept of typography based on a syntactical approach.
The purpose of this research was to re-illuminated the artistic value of costumes that had shared identical history with human beings through the formation and the progress of the newly introduced Russian avant-garde an. This resulted from the fact that the Russian avant-garde art changed the human esthetic sense through the style of art that Larionov and Goncharova introduced in the 20th century. The research method defined the formation and the progress of the development of the Rayonism centering the works of art by Larionov and Goncharova. Based on this method, larionov and Goncharova designed the set and the costumes for the Ballets Russes of Serge Diaghilev and studied the molding characteristics of the costumes worn in the performing an. The result were as follows. First of all, Larionov's costumes of art were all manufactured based on the theme of nature and genesis. In other words, Larionov represented the sun as a humanistic god through the white night, the natural weather condition of northern Russia. His costumes also displayed the symbolic meaning of the personification of animals like birds and cats, which emphasized the importance of both nature and tradition. However, he used Rayonism expression when he designed costumes by applying the nature themes. On the other hand, Goncharova applied the Spanish passion, the Russian folk art lubok, and goldern cockerel or religious icon-paintings in her costumes. she pursued straight lines and abstract shapes in her costume design. her design displayed the Rayonism influence through the separation between the lines and the surfaces, whic defined the costumes as a decorative art experiment. Therefore, the study of Larionov and Goncharova had one realize that Rayonism was not only an art form of Avant-garde, but it also became the basis of the molding character of all the artworks. The relationships between costumes and literature are the remarkable characteristics in the history of Japanese costumes. Among them, the literary designs which have literary subject matters seem unique to Japan. In Japan, the history of the literary design traces far back and its examples are abundant in various literatures in the Heian era. It is particularly notable that the literary designs take a relatively large part of Kosode pattern in the pre-modern period, the Edo era, which can be cleary seen in Kosodehinagata-bon, a collection of Kosode pattern of those era, in addition to various sources of extant relics or paintings.
