  • Residentialization is in progress in the coastal areas of the cities as the number of apartment houses rapidly increase with the simultaneous provision-centered development. It would be necessary to provide quality residential environments which would not deteriorate and would be chosen by many people as a sustainable residence in the future through the demand-centered development, considering the residents' consciousness. To do so, it is necessary to understand the residents' consciousness about the residential environment in the coastal area that has differentiated characteristics as a waterfront space through an evaluation of the residential environment, different from the existing residences. This study understands the significance of the waterfront space in the residential environment through people's consciousness when they choose a residence before they reside and people's consciousness when they evaluate the residence after they reside, concerning how the environment of the waterfront space is recognized as compared to other elements of the residential environment according to the geographic characteristics of the coastal area. In addition, this study analyzes the significance of people's consciousness before and after their residence through a comparison according to the change of distance to the waterfront from the perspective of access to the waterfront, the characteristic as a residential environment in the coastal area.

  • A studio type urban lifestyle housing was recently introduced as a new urban multi-housing typology. It was particularly created to meet the increasing housing demand of one-person households due to the population change and the shortage of housing supply. However, some concerns have been raised, because the government's policy has been focused on expanding housing supply by easing certain legal regulations in construction. Poorly planned and managed urban lifestyle housings might degrade living conditions for one-person households and ultimately harm urban environments. As such, this research is conducted to investigate the design characteristics of the studio type urban lifestyle housing from selected construction precedents in Seoul. Critical evaluations are made for the facilities and uses in site plans, unit plans, and shared public spaces. As a result, problem areas are found in the lack of design varieties, privacy protection in units, control of natural environment conditions, and the absence of community spaces. Improvement strategies can be suggested by comparing with some overseas' housing precedents: Design variations can be extended through flexible structure, facility, and furniture systems. Privacy and natural environment can be controled through the integration of interior space configurations and exterior envelope systems. The housing policy needs to be reconsidered to improve a variety in design, residents' social interaction, security, and management. Thereby, the studio type urban lifestyle housing should be holistically approached in terms of design and policy to enrich urban living experiences by residents and communities.

  • Recently, a lower levels space has turned into a mediating space where people can experience urban spaces directly and it has revitalized communication between the city and company and also it has changed itself newly. In addition, this space which is connecting interior and exterior spaces of company's buildings can attract people living in the downtown as shock-absorbing and transitional space and it is getting more important part in urban context these days. Through case studies of corporate office space planning characteristics derived lower levels and to provide direction for the lower levels of the corporate office space planning purposes of the present study. Therefore, I establish the concept of the public good corporate office space and transition space, the concept of transition through the first Theoretical Methods. I investigate the properties of the transition area is used as the target for completion of the current construction culture destination since 2000, winning the corporate office, I have been talking about the characteristics of the corporate office along the lower part of the last PPS assessment criteria to apply to the building. PPS by applying an assessment factor can be derived for building enterprise case studies and analysis of the results the following conclusions about the use of publicity and transition space. First, lower levels of corporate office space had been applied to the use and activity in a very important project characteristics. Second, corporate office space, lower levels of access and linkages are important. • In the process of modermization the problem of environment destruction has become a worldwide issue. And now this problem is a concern for all branches of science, including that of architectural desigv. This thesis tries to find the meaning of ecological architectural space, one that encreases the organic relationship, and communication, between architectrual space and urban environmental space, between human beings and architecture, and between human beings and their environment. As an example, we will take a look at the architectural space-design of Frei Otto, who offers diverse creative ecological architectural forms. His concept of architecture has the critical character when compared with the traditionan conventional concept of architecture. The ecological characteristics of his architectural spacedesign can be summarized as follows: The first characteristic is his ample use of natural objects in the architectural structure. An ample use of living things like trees and plants as well as of inanimate thing like water, wind as architectural elements enhances the functional efficiency of architecture. The second characteristic is its ecological architectural system, which saves energy faciliates ventilation by changing the position and direction of the building, by systematically applying the materials, and by efficiently arranging the inner space. The third characteristic is the dematerialization of architecture and the use of materials that are economical and appropriate for the circulation system of nature. The use of natural elements and recycling natural objects, makes it possible to reuse materials of the destroyed building. In short, the ecological architecture of Frei Otto, which shows the relation between human beings and architecture, presents diverse possibilities of the archtectural space as a complex natural system, which is more than a simple combination of separatge elements.

  • This study examines the properties of spaces where historical and cultural resources have been preserved in the street system of Daegu Yakryeong market district, by using Space Syntax methodology. The results were obtained through ASA(Angular Segment Analysis) on each node (spatial unit) in the street network. An overall characteristic of spatial configuration in street system of the surveyed district is that nodes in the street network tend to form socially integrated spatial structure to allow easy access to each space in the system. There are a small number of socially isolated spaces in the street system, which are located at nodes in narrow streets adjacent to the roadway outside the district, or in narrow alleys between early modern Korean buildings. More than half of the surveyed spaces have high levels of social integration, which contain buildings playing a central role of the community, a traditional street market, symbolic landmarks. In conclusion, it is expected that the achievements of this study will contribute in leading to rational land use planning for sound and sustainable development of historical and cultural resources in an urban district.

  • From 2000s, modular construction has gained more attention due to many advantages such as reduction of duration, recycling. The modular structure is being used for urban regeneration recently. However, even though most facilities in the modular structures which are used as urban regeneration building are commercial spaces, exhibition spaces, eating and drinking spaces, there are lack of natural or mechanical ventilation systems. Also, there are relatively limited spaces on modular structure characteristic. Therefore, indoor environment performance of four buildings, which are performed as urban regeneration in Seoul, was evaluated by HCHO and $CO_2$ emissions. Consequently, the HCHO and $CO_2$ emissions of the commercial and exhibition spaces were confirmed that can influence on health of occupants. Therefore, the urban regeneration modular structure needs to add local ventilation systems for improvement of indoor air quality to more healthy and comfortable.
