The geometric dimension and shape of microchannels that are formed during surface texturing are widely studied for applications in flow control, and drag and friction reduction. In this research, a new method for controlling the deformation of U channels during micro-rolling-based surface texturing was developed. Since the width of the U channels is almost constant, controlling the depth is essential. A calibration procedure of initial rolling gap, and proportional-integral PI controllers and a linear interpolation have been applied simultaneously to control the depth. The PI controllers drive the position of the pre-U grooved roll as well as the rolling gap. The relationship between the channel depth and rolling gap is linearized to create a feedback signal in the depth control system. The depth of micro channels is studied on A2021 aluminum lamina surfaces. Overall, the experimental results demonstrated the feasibility of the method for controlling the depth of microchannels.

In this paper, channel modeling of VLC(Visible Light Communication) was investigated under indirect lightning circumstance which was the way that all phontons started from LED(Light Emitting Diode) were reached on the floor with NLOS paths. I supposed width(6m), depth(4m), height(2.2m) cube room circumstance for VLC communication channel and supposed that 4 LEDs were located at 2m height, which emitted photons at the direction of wall and ceiling. Channel characteristics, which were power attenuation and delayed receiving of light signal, were abstracted from receivers(PDs) which were located at 0.5m above from floor. The availability of channel was verified via BPSK based communication simulation.

In the narrow water channel, which has been frequently deployed in the artificial canal in the South Korea due to the lack of available land, solitary wave type ship induced waves can occur. In order to test this hypothetical view, we carried out the numerical simulation. Numerical model consists of Navier-Stokes Equations and VOF, and the verification is implemented using the data by PIANC (1987) and the analytical model derived in this study. It was shown that numerically simulated front wave height are much larger than the one by PIANC (1987), and the fluctuation of free surface near the channel bank persists much longer (around 20s). For the case of stern waves, numerically simulated wave height are somewhat smaller than the data by PIANC (1987). These results seriously deviates from the general characteristics of ship induced waves observed in the wide water channels, and leads us to conclude that ship induced waves is severely affected by the width of water channel. It was also shown that the currents from the channel banks toward a ship, and currents from the ship toward the channel banks are alternatively occurring due to reflection at the channel banks. The velocity of currents reaches its maximum at 0.90 m/s, and these values are sustained through the entire depth. which implies that severe scourings at the channel bottom can be underway.
In this study, a 2D hydrodynamic model equipped with critical dry depth scheme was developed to reproduce the flow over staircase. The channel geometry of hydraulic experiment conducted by Ishigaki et al. was generated in the computational space, and the developed model was validated against flow properties such as discharge, velocity and momentum. In addition, the water surface profile and the velocity distribution evolved in flow over two layers staircases were analyzed. When the initial water depth at the upper floor was 0.3 m, the maximum velocity at lower floor was 4.2 m/s, and the maximum momentum was $1.2m^3/s^2$, and its conversion to force per unit width was 1.2 kN/m. This value was equivalent to the hydrostatic force with 50 cm water depth, and evacuation became difficult, as proposed by Ishigaki et al. For the flow over staircases connecting two layers, the maximum run-up height in flat part connecting two layers was approximately two times higher than the initial water depth in upper floor, and the rapid shock wave with sharp front and long tail was propagated.
A Model Tree technique of data mining was applied to derive optimal equations for sediment discharge assessment based on the measured sediment data and then to evaluate stable channel design for Naesung Stream. The sediment discharge formula as a function of channel width, velocity, depth, slope and median grain diameter which was developed by a Model Tree technique with sediment discharge data measured in Korean River had a high goodness-of-fit between measured and calculated results. In case of the sediment discharge formula as a function of channel width, velocity, depth and median grain diameter which was developed by a Model Tree technique with sediment discharge data only measured in Naesung Stream represented the highest goodness-of-fit. Two types of sediment discharge formulas were applied to evaluate stable channel analysis for Yonghyeol Station of Naesung Stream. As a result, bed erosion was expected in the study section compared to the current section. It was also presented that the be slope might be changed to be a milder slope than the current slope to reach equilibrium condition in the long term.
In this paper, an artificial neural network based on simulated annealing was constructed. The mapping relationship between the parameters of micro-scaled flow channels electrochemical machining and the channel shape was established by training the samples. The depth and width of micro-scaled flow channels electrochemical machining on stainless steel surface were predicted, and the flow channels experiment was carried out with pulse power supply in NaNO3 solution to verify the established network model. The results show that the depth and width of the channel predicted by the simulated annealing artificial neural network with "4-7-2" structure are very close to the experimental values, and the error is less than 5.3%. The predicted and experimental data show that the etching degree in the process of channels electrochemical machining is closely related to voltage and current density. When the voltage is less than 5V, a "small island" is formed in the channel; When the voltage is greater than 40V, the lateral etching of the channel is relatively large, and the "dam" between the channels disappears. When the voltage is 25V, the machining morphology of the channel is the best.

River restoration or rehabilitation should be conducted in a way to maximize the channel stability with natural river configuration close to the equilibrium condition considering divers aspects of fluvial hydraulics, erosion and sedimentation, fluvial geomorphology, and ecological environment and to minimize the maintenance work. Therefore, the channel stability evaluation for present condition based on the equilibrium channel concept should be preceded for the river restoration project. Methods for equilibrium channel theory have generally been developed following either analytical regime theory or empirical regime theory. The main purpose of this paper is to evaluate the stability of present channel condition for the section of abandoned channel restoration in Cheongmi Stream using the Stable channel Analytical Model (SAM) and equilibrium hydraulic geometry equations. The results of analytical and empirical regime theories should provide fundamental and essential information to design the stable channel geometry. As a calculation result of Copeland's method for the study reach, the equilibrium channel has a narrower channel width, deeper water depth, and more gentle slope than the present channel geometry. As results of equilibrium hydraulic geometry equations, predicted equilibrium widths are less than the channel width in the field. It is represented that the current bed slope must be gentle to reach the equilibrium condition according to the results of Julien and Wargadalam method.

As a basic work for river restoration, analysis on fluvial geomorphological characteristics is made using past and present data to understand close-to-nature geomorphic status. The Miho and the Naesung Rivers are targets of this study. Fluvial geomorphic variables including valley-floor width, sinuosity, bankfull width, channel gradient, bed material size, bankfull discharge and unit stream power are evaluated with dominant processes. Though common sand-bed rivers with similar catchment area, the Miho and the Naesung Rivers are different in terms of valley-floor width, channel shape variables and dominant processes related with longitudinal location. In addition, analyses on interrelationship among the geomorphological variables are carried. Bankfull width is shown to be proportional to bankfull discharge, as is in a rough agreement with the previous studies. Relationship of bankfull discharge and channel gradient shows meandering and braiding are prevalent in the Miho River, whereas the most of the sub-reaches of the Naesung River fall to braiding. Relationship of channel gradient with width-depth ratio indicates dune-ripple processes are dominant in the Miho River, while the Naesung River shows longitudinal diversity from braiding in the downstream sub-reaches to riffle-pool and plane-bed along the upper ones. Analyses based on the past data on a river in a close-to-nature status are thought to be rather reasonable in comparison with those on the same river in a engineered condition.
Levee-break Analysis model is developed to predict the variation of breach width according to time and to estimate inundation area and depth in protected lowland. This Model calculate flood depth using 4 point implicit finite difference method in river channel and analyze breach flow based on physical theory introducing soil transport equation and erosion process. Breach analysis model and channel flood model are combined into Levee-Break Model and this model is applied to actual levee break case. Then, this model can simulate reasonably many levee-break parameters such as river stage, breach width, breach formation and so on. If the applicability of this model is proved through applications to more various actual levee-break cases, the suggested model is expected to do more accurate flood analyses on levee break site.
In this study, the development processes of multiple bars in the channels with erodible banks were investigated by double Fourier analysis. The initially straight channels in the experiment flume were widened with eroding the side banks, and the multiple bars were generated and grew due to stalling of the sediment on the bed. The bars migrated downstream and the size of the bars increased with time. The flow was separated around the bars, and the bed and banks near the bars were scoured due to the impinged secondary flow. The morphologic changes were accelerated by the bank erosion, which affected the fluctuations of sediment discharge downstream. The double Fourier analysis of the bed waves showed that 1-1 mode (alternate bar) was dominant at the initial stage of the channel development. As time increased, 2-3 mode (central or multiple bars) was dominant due to the increased width to depth ratio. Moreover, the number of bars in a cross section of the channel were increased due to the non linearity of alternate bars. The width to depth ratio was increased by the bank erosion, which affected the bar migration and the bar wavelength. However, the dimensionless tractive force was decreased by it.
