  • In this paper, optimal sensing time allocation for adaptive multiband spectrum sensing-transmission procedure is investigated. The sensing procedure consists of an exploration phase and a detection phase. We first formulate an optimization problem to maximize the throughput by designing not only the overall sensing time, but also the sensing time for every stage in the exploration and detection phases, while keeping the miss detection probability for each channel under a pre-defined threshold. Then, we transform the initial non-convex optimization problem into a convex bilevel optimization problem to make it mathematically tractable. Simulation results show that the optimized sensing time setting in this paper can provide a significant performance gain over the previous studies.

  • Microchannel heat sink shape optimization is performed using Kriging method. Design variables relating to microchannel width, depth and fin width are selected, and thermal resistance has been taken as objective function. Design points are selected through a three-level fractional factorial design of sampling method. Navier-Stokes and energy equations for laminar flow and conjugate heat transfer are solved at these design points using a finite volume solver. Solutions are carefully validated with experimental results. Using the numerically evaluated objective function, a surrogate model (Kriging) is constructed and optimum point is searched by sequential quadratic programming. The process of shape optimization greatly improves the thermal performance of microchannel heat sink under constant pumping power.

  • The present study investigates on design optimization of rib-roughened two-dimensional channel to enhance turbulent heat transfer. Response surface method with Reynolds-averaged Navier-Stokes analysis is used as an optimization technique. Standard $k-{\varepsilon}$model with wall functions is adopted as a turbulence closure. The objective function is defined as a linear combination of heat transfer and friction drag coefficients with weighting factor. Computational results for overall heat transfer rate show good agreements with experimental data. Four design variables are optimized for weighting factor of 0.02.

  • This paper presents a numerical optimization method to design geometric shape of streamwise periodic ribs mounted on one of the principal walls to enhance turbulent heat transfer in a rectangular channel flow. The golden section method is used for the one dimensional search. The optimization is based on Wavier-Stokes analysis of turbulent forced convection with $k-{\varepsilon}$ turbulence model. The width-to-height ratio of a rib is chosen as a design variable. The object function is defined as an inverse of average Nusselt number. An optimum shape of the rib has been obtained with reasonable computing time.

  • Transceiver optimization in multiple input multiple output (MIMO) cognitive systems is studied in this paper. The joint transceiver beamformer design is introduced to minimize the transmit power at secondary base station (SBS) while simultaneously controlling the interference to primary users (PUs) and satisfying the secondary users (SUs) signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) based on the convex optimization method. Due to the limited cooperation between SBS and PUs, the channel state information (CSI) usually cannot be obtained perfectly at the SBS in cognitive system. In this study, both perfect and imperfect CSI scenarios are considered in the beamformer design, and the proposed method is robust to CSI error. Numerical results validate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

  • Energy consumption is a key issue in body sensor networks (BSNs) since energy-constrained sensors monitor the vital signs of human beings in healthcare applications. In this paper, packet size optimization for BSNs has been analyzed to improve the efficiency of energy consumption. Existing studies on packet size optimization in wireless sensor networks cannot be applied to BSNs because the different operational characteristics of nodes and the channel effects of in-body and on-body propagation cannot be captured. In this paper, automatic repeat request (ARQ), forward error correction (FEC) block codes, and FEC convolutional codes have been analyzed regarding their energy efficiency. The hop-length extension technique has been applied to improve this metric with FEC block codes. The theoretical analysis and the numerical evaluations reveal that exploiting FEC schemes improves the energy efficiency, increases the optimal payload packet size, and extends the hop length for all scenarios for in-body and on-body propagation.

  • An aerodynamic optimization design process of multistage axial turbine is presented in this article: first, applying quasi-three dimensional(Q3D) design methods to conduct preliminary design and then adopting modern optimization design methods to implement multistage local optimization. Quasi-three dimensional(Q3D) design methods, which mainly refer to S2 flow surface direct problem calculation, adopt the S2 flow surface direct problem calculation program of Harbin Institute of Technology. Multistage local optimization adopts the software of Numeca/Design3D, which jointly adopts genetic algorithm and artificial neural network. The major principle of the methodology is that the successive design evaluation is performed by using an artificial neural network instead of a flow solver and the genetic algorithms may be used in an efficient way. Flow computation applies three-dimensional viscosity Navier Stokes(N-S) equation solver. Such optimization process has three features: (i) local optimization based on aerodynamic performance of every cascade; (ii) several times of optimizations being performed to every cascade; and (iii) alternate use of coarse grid and fine grid. Such process was applied to optimize a three-stage axial turbine. During the optimization, blade shape and meridional channel were respectively optimized. Through optimization, the total efficiency increased 1.3% and total power increased 2.4% while total flow rate only slightly changed. Therefore, the total performance was improved and the design objective was achieved. The preliminary design makes use of quasi-three dimensional(Q3D) design methods to achieve most reasonable parameter distribution so as to preliminarily enhance total performance. Then total performance will be further improved by adopting multistage local optimization design. Thus the design objective will be successfully achieved without huge expenditure of manpower and calculation time. Therefore, such optimization design process may be efficiently applied to the aerodynamic design optimization of multistage axial turbine.

  • As scaling down the cell channel length, the increment of B concentration in channel region is inevitable to overcome the punch-through, especially in flash memory cell with 90nm technology. This paper shows that the high dose ion implantation in channel cause the Si defect. which has been proved to be the major cause of the tailed Vth in distribution. And also mechanical stress due to SiN-anneal process can induce the Si dislocation. and get worse it. With decreasing the channel implantation dose, skipping the anneal and reducing the mechanical stress, Si defect problem is solved completely. We are verify first that the optimization of B concentration in channel must be certainly considered in order to improve Si defect. It is also certainly necessary to stabilize the distribution of cell Vth in the next generation of flash memory.

  • In this study, we propose a joint source/channel rate control algorithm for video encoder targeting packet erasure channel. Based on the buffer constraints of video communication systems, encoding rate constraint is presented. After defining source distortion models for coded and skipped video frames and a channel distortion model for packet errors and their propagation, an average distortion model of received video is proposed for a given encoding window. Finally, we define an optimization problem to minimize the average distortion for given channel rates and packet loss rates by controlling spatio-temporal parameters of source video and FEC block sizes. Then, we propose a window-based algorithm to solve the problem in real-time.

  • In order to suggest the methodology for improving the equality of flow distribution in a distribution channel, wet tests were carried out for pilot plant which was scaled down to 1/8 of full scale distribution channel being operated in domestic K_water treatment plant. The correlation between various hydraulic variables and their effects on the equality of flow distribution was evaluated through wet tests using pilot plant. From the results of wet tests, the longitudinal baffle with orifices was installed in the distribution channel, the equality of flow distribution was improved on the condition that the Froude number in pilot plant was similar with that in the full scale channel. Also, the opening ratio of the orifices on the longitudinal baffled did not have influence on the performance of the equality of flow distribution when the average flow velocity and Froud number were relatively low (Froude number ${\fallingdotseq} 0.01$). In the other hand, the performance of the equality of flow distribution was improved with increasing the opening ration of on the longitudinal baffle under conditions of relatively high average flow velocity and high Froud number(${\gtrsim}0.1$)
