  • The IEEE 802.11 wireless standard uses the carrier sense multiple access with collision avoidance (CSMA/CA) as its MAC protocol (during the distributed coordination function period). This protocol is an adaptation of the CSMA/CD of the wired networks. CSMA/CA mechanism cannot guarantee quality of service (QoS) required by the application because orits random access method. In this study, we propose a new MAC protocol that considers different types of traffic (e.g., voice and data) and for each traffic type different priority levels are assigned. To improve the QoS of IEEE 802.11 MAC protocols over a multi-channel CSMA/CA, we have developed a new admission policy for both voice and data traffics. This protocol can be performed in direct sequence spread spectrum (DSSS) or frequency hopping spread spectrum (FHSS). For voice traffic we reserve a channel, while for data traffic the access is random using a CSMA/CA mechanism, and in this case a selective reject and push-out mechanism is added to meet the quality of service required by data traffic. To study the performance of the proposed protocol and to show the benefits of our design, a mathematical model is built based on Markov chains. The system could be represented by a Markov chain which is difficult to solve as the state-space is too large. This is due to the resource management and user mobility. Thus, we propose to build an aggregated Markov chain with a smaller state-space that allows performance measures to be computed easily. We have used stochastic comparisons of Markov chains to prove that the proposed access protocol (with selective reject and push-out mechanisms) gives less loss rates of high priority connections (data and voices) than the traditional one (without admission policy and selective reject and push-out mechanisms). We give numerical results to confirm mathematical proofs.

  • This paper describes and analyzes the performance of MB-OFDM UWB system that is suggested as one of standards in IEEE 802.15 TG3a for UWB application. UMBchannel model that has been contributed in IEEE 802.15 SG3a is a wideband channel model of 6Ghz bandwidth, so we modify it to have 3 subband channels that are obtained by filtering conventional U Channel, considering center frequency hopping and system bandwidth. From simulations, we compare performances of MB-OFDM system in AWGN and WB channel and verify the frequency and time domain diversity gains from time End frequency spreading technique. We also compare and analyze the performance of proposed SFBC MB-OFDM with that of conventional MB-OFDM system. Simulation results show SFBC MB-OFDM system outperforms conventional MB-OFDM system about 1.5dB of Eb/No at target BER of 10$^{-m4}$./.

  • OFDM/SFH(orthogonal frequency division multiplexing/slow frequency hopping) system is the combination of OFDM communication system with frequency hopping(FH) method and OFDM/DS(orthogonal frequency division multiplexing/direct sequence) system combines the OFDM communication system with direct sequence(DS) method in terms of PN(pseudo noise) sequence. These two systems are also can be used for anti-jamming. In this study we analyze performances of OFDM/SFH system and OFDM/DS system with the equal information rate in partial band jamming and tone jamming channel. We find BER(bit error rate) in the variation of JFR(jamming fractional ratio) and JSR(jamming to signal power ratio) of the partial band jamming. Also, BER is found in the several JSR of the single tone or multi tone jamming. OFDM/DS system shows better performance than OFDM/SFH system in partial band jamming environment. OFDM/DS system has about 2.5 ㏈ SNR(signal to noise power ratio) gains than OFDM/SFH system when JFR=4/16 and JSR=0 ㏈ to meet BER=10$\^$-3/. However, OFDM/SFH system has about 3 ㏈ SNR gains than OFDM/DS system at single tone jamming of JSR=5 ㏈. In multi tone jamming, performance of OFDM/SFH system is considerably degraded than OFDM/DS system.

  • This paper investigates the link margin of MB-OFDM UWB system quantitatively. Various simulations are performed considering the implementation loss by imperfect synchronization unit and the effect of multi-path fading channels. MB-OFDM UWB system uses ZP(Zero Padding) instead of CP(Cyclic Prefix) and supports two transmission modes; one is TFI(Time Frequency Interleaving) mode that transmits OFDM symbols using different carrier frequency from symbol to symbol according to Time Frequency(TF) codes, the other is FFI(Fixed Frequency Interleaving) mode that transmits OFDM symbols using a specific carrier frequency. The advantage of if and TFI is to be able to increase the transmitting power effectively compared to the existed OFDM systems that transmit the signal continuously at the same average transmitting power. From the analysis results of Ink margin, to guarantee the service range of 4m in 200Mbps mode, TFI mode must necessarily be implemented and the service range of 480Mbps mode is estimated about 1-2m in the line-of-sight multi-path channel (CMI).

  • A periodic broadcasting is known as an efficient technique for delivering popular videos to reduce bandwidth requirements for transmitting streaming video to viewers in video-on-demand (VoD) services. However, the most periodic VoD schemes approach needs frequency channel hopping, many segments of video managing, and using many channel at the same time. These make it difficult to implement. In this paper, we propose a Staircase Staggered broadcasting scheme which has a simple structure and substantially improved VoD efficiency. The numerical results demonstrate that the viewer's waiting time of the Staircase Staggered broadcasting scheme is close to the staircase broadcasting scheme and the maximum buffer requirements of this can be adapted for demanding rate by adjusting the short front part of a video sizes.

  • In this paper, the performance of packet radio networks using the ALOHA protocol in Rayleigh fading channels is analyzed in terms of the capture probability and the throughput. We consider capture effect in order to increase the probability of the channel access and to include cellular environment we assume that the traffic is a truncated bell-shaped distribution. The packet proposed in this paper consists of a competition part and a data part to decrease the probability of collision in the channel access. In the competition part, DS system with common spreading code is used and in the data, hybrid DS/FH system is used. We consider the linear correlation receiver and the hard-limiting correlation receiver as the receiver model. BPSK modulation is also employed. Because hybrid DS/FH systems are not sensitive to variation of the interference power, as we choose a proper chip number N and a frequency hopping number q, we can obtain a steady system performance even though the variation of interference power is severe fading channels such as Rayleigh fading.

  • In this paper, error performance of DS/FH CDMA system has been analyzed in a radio channel which is characterized by near-far problem and multi-path fading. The DS/FH CDMA system adopts Maximum Ratio Combining(MRC) diversity and BCH(Bose-Chau dhuri-Hocquenghem) coding techniques to enhance system performance. Using the derived error probability equation, the error performance of DS/FH CDMA system has been evaluated and shown in figures to discuss as a function of PN code length(N), hopping rate(q), number of diversity branch(M), coding rate($\gamma$) and bit energy per noise power ratio ${E_b/N_o}$. The results show that DS/FH system is more effective to restrain the affection of near-far problem and multi-path fading than DS system. And there is a substantial enhancement in performance by employing an MRC diversity or BCH coding techniques. Consequently, we expected that proposed system structure is reliable to the voice communication system in near-far problem and multi-path fading channel.

  • In this paper, it was estimated the BER performance of the individual system type by applying the SFH type and the FFH type to the FH MC-DS CDMA system that combined the strong points of MC DS/CDMA and that of Frequency Hopping under the Nakagami fading channel with Multi-tone Jamming. An increase in the number of hoppings means that it can improve the BER performance by reducing the receiving burden of the FH MC DS/CDMA by achieving a frequency diversity effect. Therefore, I verified that the performances of the FH MC DS/CDMA system could be improved by increasing the number of hoppings.

  • In this paper, we analyzed the performance of a hybird DS/SFH(DirectSequencySlow FrequencyHopping) Spread Spectrum system with BFSK modulation over Nakagamim fading channel with multitone jamming. The performance of the system was improved when a frequency bowing rate increased. In case that process gain of hybrid DS/SFH Spread Spectrum system to be fixed, the hybrid DS/SFH Spread Spectrum takes the low bit error probability than a DS Spread Spectrum system. Also, when the fading index m increases, the fading effect decrease, when the JSR(jamming to signal power ratio) increases ,the performance of a hybrid DS/SFH Spread Spectrum system improved than DS Spread Spectrum system. The result, we have been proved that performance of a hybrid DS/SFH Spread Spectrum was superior to DS Spend Spectrum system over Nakagamim fading with tome jamming.

  • A general method for the evaluation of the symbol error probability (SER) of ultra wideband (UWB) systems with various kind of modulation schemes (N-PAM, M-PPM, Bi-Orthogonal), in presence of multipath channel, multiuser and strong narrowband interference, is presented. This method is shown to be able to include all the principal multiaccess techniques proposed so far for UWB, time hopping (TH), direct sequence (DS) and optical orthogonal codes (OOC). A comparison between the performance of these multiple access and modulation techniques is given, for both ideal Rake receiver and minimum mean square error (MMSE) equalizer. It is shown that for all the analyzed multiple access schemes, a Rake receiver exhibits a high error floor in presence of narrowband interference (NBI) and that the value of the error floor is in-fluenced by the spectral characteristics of the spreading code. As expected, an MMSE receiver offers better performance, representing a promising candidate for UWB systems. When the multiuser interference is dominant, all multiple access techniques exhibit similar performance under high-load conditions. If the number of users is significantly lower than the spreading factor, then DS outperforms both TH and OOC. Finally 2PPM is shown to offer better performance than the other modulation schemes in presence of multiuser interference; increasing the spreading factor is proposed as a more effective strategy for SER reduction than the use of time diversity.
