Multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) communication may provide high spectral efficiency through the deployment of a very large number of antenna elements at the base stations. The gains from massive MIMO communication come from the use of multi-user MIMO on the uplink and downlink, but with a large excess of antennas at the base station compared to the number of served users. Initial work on massive MIMO did not fully address several practical issues associated with its deployment. This paper considers the impact of channel aging on the performance of massive MIMO systems. The effects of channel variation are characterized as a function of different system parameters assuming a simple model for the channel time variations at the transmitter. Channel prediction is proposed to overcome channel aging effects. The analytical results on aging show how capacity is lost due to time variation in the channel. Numerical results in a multicell network show that massive MIMO works even with some channel variation and that channel prediction could partially overcome channel aging effects.
A relationship between sea level variations in the Korea Strait (the western and the eastern channels) and the Tokara Strait in the Kuroshio region is examined using daily-mean sea level data from 1966 to 1986. The seasonal variation of the sea level difference (SLD) between Izuhara and Pusan (the western channel) is most periodic: the positive anomalies appear from summer to autumn, and the negative anomalies from winter to spring year to year, whereas SLDs neither between Hakata and Izuhara (the eastern channel) nor between Naze and Nishinoomote (the Tokara Strait) show such a periodic variation. Much similarity has been found between SLDs in the eastern channel and the Tokara Strait, and in particular they were closely correlated in a special event of the Kuroshio region, such as a large meander of the Kuroshio. This paper shows that the periodic seasonal variation of the SLDs in the western channel should be less related to the Kuroshio region. This result also implies that the variation of SLD in the western channel is largely influenced by local factors, such as the bottom cold water in the western channel in summer, rather than from the Kuroshio region.

The coupled conduction and convection heat transfer from a protruding heated module in a horizontal channel with a variation of channel height is experimentally investigated. The input power to the module is 3, 7W and thermal resistance of module support is 0.06 , 1.03 and 158K/W. the Reynolds number ranged from 350 to 4500 corresponding to the inlet velocity(0.4~1.3 m/s) and channel height(11~35 mm). The results were obtained that the decrease of thermal resistance of module support reduces the module temperature by redistributing the heat flux and the overall thermal resistance of the module. In the study the effect of channel height is very significant in the adiabatic condition, but negligible in the conjugate condition. Finally, correlations for Nusselt number and $Q_B$/Q with a variation of Reynolds number were developed respectively.

We have observed the short-channel effect, narrow-channel effect and small-geometry effect in terms of a variation of the threshold voltage. For a short-channel effect the threshold voltage was largely determined by the DIBL effect which stimulates more carrier injection in the channel by reducing the potential barrier between the source and channel. The effect becomes more significant for a shorter-channel device. However, the potential, field and current density distributions in the channel along the transverse direction showed a better uniformity for shorter-channel devices under the same voltage conditions. The uniformity of the current density distribution near the drain on the potential minimum point becomes worse with increasing the drain voltage due to the enhanced DIBL effect. This means that considerations for channel-width effect should be given due to the variation of the channel distributions for short-channel devices. For CCDs which are always operated at a pinch-off state the channel uniformity thus becomes significant since they often use a device structure with a channel length of > 4 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ and a very high drain (or diffusion) voltage. The power line channel has time-variant characteristics caused by various kind of electrical devices. This characteristics are synchronized with the main voltage by their own characteristics. The main factors of disturbance are the variation of the channel impedance and noises. In other papers, the synchronous noise modeling has been achieved. But the modeling is not satisfied simultaneously with the time domain and the frequency domain and there are not any discussion about short-term variations of the channel impedance which cause to the signal fading. Therefore, this paper researched to solve problems about the signal fading by analyzing the short-term variation of the channel impedance, and proposed the synchronous noise modeling which is satisfied simultaneously in the time domain and the frequency domain.
This paper investigates the impact of the channel variations and channel estimation errors on the error performance of convolutional coded STBC systems. We consider the orthogonal Almouti STBC and the quasi-orthogonal Jafarkhani STBC, and the error performance of the convolutional coded STBC system is investigated according to the channel variation and channel estimation error via numerical simulations. Simulation results show that, if the channel variation speed is slow, time diversity effects improve the error performance compared to the static-channel cases. However, if the channel variation speed is fast, unlike ZF or MMSE detection, the conventional STBC detection has the significant performance degradation especially with the quasi-orthogonal Jafarkhani STBC. Further, the error performance of the system is significantly degraded as the channel estimation errors become stronger, regardless of the detection scheme and channel variation speed.
The variation of channel bed which shows the complex hydraulic characteristics at channel junction was investigated by variation of discharge ratio and location of pier. As discharge ratio increase, the depth and width of erosion region become bigger to point of 63% of channel width in case of 1:0.5 discharge ratio. It was observed that the maximum scour depth at the point of 0.5 times of the channel width in the channel junction as 2.5 times bigger than straight channel. It means that the maximum scour depth at the channel junction is 2 times greater than by experimental formulas which are widely used in practical engineering, location of pier should be determined when it is installed in channel junction.

The degradation due to channel distortion in a quadrature modulation system from the ideal constant values over the bandwidth of a direct sequence spread spectrum signal are considered. Through using series expansion for the channel gain and phase response, the degradation in the correlator output at the receiver is found as a function of the parameters involved , including phase error, delay error, linear gin variation, quadratic gain variation, and quadratic phase variation.

This paper presents a new power control method for compensating the short term fading of the reverse link channel in the CDMA mobile telephone system. The fixed step closed loop power control which is now adopted in IS-95, is very simple in structure. However, the step size in the closed loop power control is too big for the channel with a small variation or too big for the channel with a small variation or too small for the channel with a large variation. The method presented in this paper has a simple structure and shows a new model employing the combination of the fixed step size method and variable step size method which results in compensatingthe disadvantages mentioned above. This paper also evaluates the performance inthe fundamental channel model.
This study investigates variation of flow characteristics due to variation of branch channel width and discharge ratio at bifurcation channel using 2D numerical model. The calculated result considering secondary flow is more accurate and stable than without considering one. The diversion flow rate ($Q_3/Q_1$) is reduced by flow stagnation effect according to the interaction of the secondary flow and flow separation zone in branch channel. The less upstream inflow or the lower upstream velocity, the bigger variation of diversion flow rate by changing branch channel width. At uniform downstream boundary condition, the rate of change in Froude number of downstream of main channel($Fr_2$)-diversion flow rate ($Q_3/Q_1$) relations is similar about -2.4843~-2.6675 when branch channel width ratio (b/B) is decreased. At uniform diversion flow rate ($Q_3/Q_1$) condition, the width of recirculation zone in branch channel is decreased when branch channel width ratio (b/B) is decreased. The less upstream inflow in the case of increasing branch channel width or the narrower branch channel width in the case of increasing upstream inflow, the bigger reduction ratio of recirculation zone width. At uniform inflow discharge ($Q_1$) condition, diversion flow rate, the width and length of recirculation zone in branch channel are decreased when branch channel width ratio (b/B) is decreased.
