  • A lab-scale apparatus for turbid water transport control was tested and examined. The channel had a dimension of $100cm{\times}30cm{\times}15cm$ (length${\times}$hight${\times}$width). And the turbidity water was prepared using two types of particles, bentonite and loess. The channel equipped with filamentous mat was operated under various shock load conditions. In the control channel, instantly, turbid water mixed with the clean water inside the channel and turbidity prevails the entire channel. While in the mat-equipped channel, it increases only at the bottom. Overall, the filamentous mat gave capture efficiency of 70~90% compared with the control group. The capture efficiency of turbid particles decreased with increased input turbidity flux. The result of experimental run on how turbid particles are separated in the mat channel shows that settling, filtration and attachment are the main processes. Meanwhile, turbidity was diffused from the channel bottom due to turbidity gradient before and after mat zone. The particle size before mat zone was lightly coarser than that after mat zone.

  • The Long Term Evolution (LTE) system is based on the Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) and relies its channel estimation on the lattice-type pilot samples in the multipath fading channel environment. The estimation of the channel frequency response (CFR) makes use of the least squares estimate (LSE) for each pilot samples, followed by an interpolation both in time- and in frequency-domain to fill up the channel estimates for subcarriers corresponding to data samples. Any interpolation scheme could be adopted for this purpose. Depending on the requirements of the target system, we may choose a simple linear interpolation or a sophisticated one. For any choice of an interpolation scheme, these is a trade-off between estimation accuracy and numerical cost. For those wireless communication systems based on the OFDM and the preamble-type pilot structure, the DFT-based channel estimation and its variants have been successfully. Yet, it may not be suitable for the lattice-type pilot structure, since the pilot samples are not sufficient to provide an accurate estimate and it is known to be sensitive to the location as well as the length of the time-domain window. In this paper, we propose a simple interpolated based on the upsampling mechanism in the multirate signal processing. The proposed method provides an excellent alternative to the DFT-based methods in terms of numerical cost and accuracy. The performance of the proposed technique is verified on a multipath environment suggested on a 3GPP LTE specification.

  • In this paper, we develop an approach toward Joint Source-Channel Coding for MPEG-4(Moving picture Experts Group) based video coding In fixed and mobile reception environment. We have considered channel environment of AWGN and mobile reception. The source coder used MPEG-4 video. the channel coder used RCPC(Rate Compatible Punctured Convolution) and the modulation method used QPSK(Quadrature Phase Shift Keying) modulation. This study determined optimum Trade-off point between source bit rate and channel coding rate In variable channel states. We compared Joint Source/channel Coding method and general constant bit rate transmission. In this results, Joint Source/channel Coding was appeared better performance than constant bit rate transmission.

  • In this paper, we analyze the performance of transmitter and receiver of W-CDMA system using the channel coding and space time code in downlink over ITU-R realistic channel model. We can improve the reliability of communications and increase the data rate by channel coding, and we can get a diversity gain by using the space time code over fading channels. We also apply the RAKE receiver to improve tile performance in multi-Path fading channel environment.

  • This paper analyzed time delay and phase distortion that generates in multipath and the degree of distortion due to power attenuation factor when UWB system is applied at indoor environment and the effects of indoor structure and material on distortion factors. Based on these distortion factors, channel model similar to actual environment is mathematically described and multipath and the degree of signal distortion generated when UWB system is applied to random environment is tested through channel model simulation and varies distortion factor that UWB system needs to consider in different indoor environment is analyzed.

  • This paper suggested an error control for multi-channel running on machine to machine environment. This system is suitable for recovering software fault for multimedia CSCW(Computer Supported Cooperative Works) based on machine to machine environment. It is necessary for the system to be protected by reactivity of media service instance instead of breaking process of session. This paper explains a performance analysis of an error recovery system of M2M based computing collaboration environment using rule-based DEVS modeling and simulation techniques.

We employed AWGN and IEEE 802.15.3a channel as a simulation environment and used to TDOA algorithm. Positioning technique using ultra wideband has high accuracy in indoor environment. From the simulation results, it is analyzed the probability of error and positioning performance for channel effects and confirmed usefulness of the proposed scheme.

  • Conventional channel estimation methods for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) system don't show the good characteristics in terms of fast fading channels. To solve this drawback in conventional methods, we propose the channel estimation method fur OFDM, assisted pilot for improvement and convergence in mobile system (APIM), which has a good performance and computational complexity in consideration of other methods. APIM uses the more developed concept of conventional methods and a block frame structure within a whole channel. This concept prevents overall performance from diverging or showing a poor one. The simulation results demonstrate the APIM outperforms pilot symbol assisted modulation (PSAM) and extended symbol aided estimation (ESAE) in terms of mean square error (MSE) and bit error rate (BER) performance under all Rayleigh fading environment. Considering the simulation performance and computational complexity, we can see APIM shows better characteristics than conventional methods for OFDM and has not any error floor even in a fast Rayleigh fading environment.

  • This work aims at examining the navigational safety of the entrance channel of Inchon harbour and suggesting the way to improve ship's navigation of the navigational safety at Inchon, that small ships such as fishing boats and barges coming out of the harbour through the East Channel cause major threat to the inbound large ships using the channel. An additional new waterway, therefore, has been recommended to be established in the middle of the East and West Channels so that the outbound small ships can use it. A waterway design simulation methodology has been applied to examin the sagety of the newly suggested channel. Minor chansge has been made to the original design after the simulation experiment, and the corrected final design of the waterway has been suggested to be implemented as soon as possible.
