  • In this paper we propose a Fractional Channel Reservation (FCS) scheme to satisfy a desired handoof dropping probability and to reduce the blocking probability of new calls using mobility characteristics and incoming handoff rate in mobile communication networks. When the ratio of the handoff call arrival rate is less then the ratio of the new call arrival rete, the proposed scheme is capable of determining the number of the guard channels which can guarantee the Quality of Service(QoS) in terms of the request handoff dropping probability and allocating dynamically the wireless channels the new calls according to the rest of the guard channels to reduce the new call blocking probability. Also we perform mathematical analysis and simulation to evaluate the performance of proposed scheme and compare to conventional guard channel scheme in terms of dropping probability blocking probability and the utilization efficiency of wireless channels.

  • In this paper, a technique is proposed that enables secondary users to evaluate channel availability in cognitive radio networks. Here, secondary users estimate the utilization of channels via predicting the traffic pattern of primary user, and select a proper channel for radio transmission. The proposed technique reduces the channel switching rate of secondary users (the rate of switching from one channel to another) and the interference on primary users, while maintaining a reasonable call blocking rate of secondary users.

  • This paper suggests the effective channel assignment scheme for mobility prediction handover. For maintaining required quality of service (QoS) during handover, there are handover algorithms these reserve the channel where the movement is predicted. But channel assignment schemes these have been studied are not considered mobility prediction handover. This paper suggests the channel assignment scheme that considers mobility predicted handover. The suggested algorithm maintains dropping probability of handover calls, decreases blocking probability of new calls and increases channel utilization.

  • Vascular relaxation action of crude extracts of two kinds of Coptidis rhizoma (Coptis chinensis and Coptis japonica, Ranunculaceae) was investigated and compared with that of berberine and palmatine, active alkaloid components of these plants. The results show that total extracts, berberine, and palmatine induced a concentration-dependent vasodilatation of rat thoracic aorta contracted with phenylephrine (PE). Palmatine, unlike to berberine, did not inhibit contraction induced by KCI. In calcium-free media, not only berberine but also crude extracts inhibited calcium-induced contraction. Furthermore, pretreatment of crude extracts inhibited contraction induced by PE noncompetitively. In PE-induced contraction, berberine was 2.5 times more potent than Coptis chinensis in the relaxation of rat aorta in terms of $IC_{50}$ values. Analysis of the effects of crude extracts on the Emax and $IC_{50}(PE)IC_{50}(KCI)$ ratios provides information on selectivity and indicates that extracts exhibit greater inhibition of the contrac tile response induced by PE than by KCI. We concluded that crude extracts have .alpha.-adrenoceptor blocking action and possesses inhibitory effect on calcium influx, which may be at least in part responsible for the antihypertensive action.

  • The performance of a packet data multiplexer with stopandwait ARQ protocols under Markovian interruption is considered in this work It is assumed that the input process, into the system is Poisson process, and that the output channel is divided into a series of time slots and a data packet can be transmitted in a slot time. In this system the roundtrip propagation delay is defined to be the frame time. It is modeled that the output channel can be blocked by some Markevian interruption, whose state change between the blocking and non-blocking states is given by Markov process. The overall system has been analyzed by constructing a relationship, taking the Markovian interruption into account, about the buffer behavior between the successive frames of slots. The validity of this analytical results has been verified by computer simulation.

  • Sufficient bandwidth that can support multimedia service has to be provided in the next generation wireless communication system. In this paper, the effective handoff scheme considering the position of mobile terminal is proposed. In addition, the dynamic channel allocation scheme is proposed. The shared channel in this algorithm can reduce more the blocking probability and the dropping probability. The proposed algorithms are simulated by SMPL library in C language. The simulation results show that the blocking probability and the dropping probability of the call can be reduced up to $60\%\;and\;10\%$ using the proposed algorithms, respectively.

  • Directional antennas are used to improve spatial reuse, but have the problem of deafness. The DUDMAC protocol uses the ORTS, OCTS, DDATA, and DACK mechanisms and a blocking algorithm for directional transmissions. In this paper, we propose a tone dual-channel directional MAC (Tone DUDMAC) protocol to improve spatial reuse. The Tone DUDMAC protocol uses the ORTS, DCTS, DDATA, and DACK mechanisms including the DDATA_tone and OCTS_tone. We use ORTS as that in DUDMAC because of location unawareness of neighbor's nodes. The DDATA_tone and OCTS_tone reduce a blocking area and improve spatial reuse. We confirm the throughput performance of the proposed MAC protocol by computer simulations using Qualnet ver.3.8 simulator.

  • With the limited wireless resources, various traffic in the cellular system is served based on micro-cell or pico-cell structure. The rapid increase in the number of mobile users results in the frequent handoff which is becoming a critical issue. In this paper, we propose a channel allocation scheme to reduce the probability of handoff failure. In this scheme, we provide a guard channel for each service to handle the handoff processes. It maintains the low probability of failure in handoff calls. To prevent the performance degradation due to the traffic variation, we use a channel arbitration method that adaptively manages the number of channels based on the call density. We evaluated the performance in terms of the initial call blocking probability and the handoff call blocking probability for various traffic and motility. We found that the proposed scheme keeps the lower probability of call blocking through the efficient channel arbitration than other suggested methods even for the irregular traffic conditions.

  • This paper proposes a new blind measurement model of blocking artifacts. This model plays an important role in the assessment and enhancement of image quality caused by block-based DCT coding system. The proposed model can measure blocking artifacts without reference to original images and consider the HVS based visual model such as frequency sensitivity and channel masking effect to detect and measure overall blocking artifacts quantitatively. The experimental results show that the proposed model is highly effective in measuring blocking artifacts.

  • Silicon carbide (SiC), one of the well known wide band gap semiconductors, shows high thermal conductivities, chemical inertness and breakdown energies. The design of normally-off 4H-SiC VJFETs [1] has been reported and 4H-SiC VJFETs with different lateral JFET channel opening dimensions have been studied [2]. In this work, 4H-SiC based VJFETs has been designed using the device simulator (ATLAS, Silvaco Data System, Inc). We varied the n-epi layer thickness (from $6\;{\mu}m$ to $10\;{\mu}m$) and the channel width (from $0.9\;{\mu}m$ to $1.2\;{\mu}m$), and investigated the static characteristics as blocking voltages, threshold voltages, on-resistances. We have shown that silicon carbide JFET structures of highly intensified blocking voltages with optimized figures of merit can thus be achieved by adjusting the epi layer thickness and channel width.
