  • Imbalanced data sets are difficult to be classified since most classifiers are developed based on the assumption that class distributions are well-balanced. In order to improve the error back-propagation algorithm for the classification of imbalanced data sets, a new error function is proposed. The error function controls weight-updating with regards to the classes in which the training samples are. This has the effect that samples in the minority class have a greater chance to be classified but samples in the majority class have a less chance to be classified. The proposed method is compared with the two-phase, threshold-moving, and target node methods through simulations in a mammography data set and the proposed method attains the best results.

  • The present study aims at investigating the relationship between voices and the physical images triggered by the voices. It is the final part of a four-part series and the results reported in the present study are limited to those of American speakers and American listeners. Combined with the results from previous studies (Moon, 2000; Moon, 2002; Tak, 2005), the results suggest that (1) there is a very strong, much higher than chance-level relationship between voices and the pictures chosen for the voices by the perception experiment subjects; (2) the more physical characteristics that are given, the better the chance for correctly matching voices with pictures; and (3) culture (in the present, language environment) seems to play a role in conjuring up the mental images from voices.

  • Many of legislations related to tourism has been made up to now since the year 1961 when modern tourism studies started. In restropect of the year 1988, the year 2002 is expected to be another chance for tourism. In order to take this chance again, new laws and regulations are necessary. Therefore, the object of this study are decided as follows: 1) to put 'the right to go sightseeing' in statutory form at constitution. 2) to realise the private law of tourism 3) to make the environment law of tourism 4) to make the facility law of tourism 5) to make the transportation law of tourism 6) to make the cultural property law of tourism 7) to make the food law of tourism 8) to make the related law of tourism 9) to make the advertising law of tourism, the tax law of tourism, and the economy law of tourism As tourism laws like above exist, tourism industry would be developed more than now.

  • The president of NSPE(2009-2010), Mr. Grossman had attended the The 3rd National Conference for Professional Engineers of Korea in accordance with the mutual agreement between KPEA and NSPE. He then, had a chance to present to our professional engineers about the licensure of professional engineers and engineering education of USA. The main contents of his presentation were introduction of the current situation of professional engineer system and needs to apply this licensure to the industry and education field, needs to strengthen the engineering education and needs to collaborate with Government in oder to open employment visa for foreign engineers. In the meantime, we should make use of this chance of engineer shortage in USA and let more Korean engineers work successfully in USA.

  • Normative models for explaning the career decision-making process are not sufficient to enable the career counselor to help a client understand and influence the factors affecting his career. Actually, the particular people and life events that are unpredictable and subject to chance often influence on career behavior. Therefore, it is needed the development of a models of career decision-making that recognizes both normative and chance influences. The focus in this article is on the development of career decision-making within various lift contexts and the recognition that individuals may prepare themselves to use unexpected opportunities in the career decision-making process.

  • This study examined the effects of consumers' perceptions and expectations about refund on consumers' behavior to refund and its outcome. Major results of this study could be summarized as follows. First, consumers' perceptions and expectations about refund were higher in the case of defective products. However, consumers' behavior to refund were generally passive resulting in the low chance of refund. When there was no defects in product, consumers perceptions and expectations for refund were generally lower resulting in passive and the low chance of refund. Second, when there was defects in product, both consumers' perceptions and expectation tot refund influenced their active behaviors for refund, but not in the successful outcome. In contrast, when there was no defect, those two variables impacted on the behaviors for refund positively In addition, the more active those behaviors requesting for refunds were, the more successful outcome in refund request.

  • A stochastic optimal power flow (S-OPF) model considering uncertainties of load and wind power is developed based on chance constrained programming (CCP). The difficulties in solving the model are the nonlinearity and probabilistic constraints. In this paper, a limit relaxation approach and an iterative learning control (ILC) method are implemented to solve the S-OPF model indirectly. The limit relaxation approach narrows the solution space by introducing regulatory factors, according to the relationship between the constraint equations and the optimization variables. The regulatory factors are designed by ILC method to ensure the optimality of final solution under a predefined confidence level. The optimization algorithm for S-OPF is completed based on the combination of limit relaxation and ILC and tested on the IEEE 14-bus system.

  • Gly-224 residue of yeast alcohol dehydrogenase was mutated by site-directed mufagenesis to isoleucine, which is the corresponding amino acid residue of horse liver alcohol dehydrogenase. The mutated gene on M13 vector was subcloned in YEp13 and used to transform Saccharomyces cerevisiae 302-21 #2 strain, and the expressed protein was purified. The tumover numbers of mutant enzyme for ethanol and acetaldehyde were decreased copared to wild-type enzyme. The results of product inhibition studies indicated that the reaction mechanism was changed to Iso Theorell-Chance from Ordered Bi Bi. We supposed that Gly-224 was related to the enzyme reaction mechanism.
