Recent years have shown great advances in the feasibility of long subsea tunnels. Projects such as the Channel Tunnel, the Stoerebelt Tunnel or the Bosporus Crossing have pushed the boundaries of TBM tunneling technology and fueled the work on feasibility studies for even more challenging projects such as crossing the Qiongzhou or Gibraltar Straits. There are numerous geotechnical challenges such as wide variations of ground conditions, high operation pressures or long tunnel distances and finally geological uncertainties which must be solved in order to attempt such projects. Several operational challenges such as large muck quantities interventions under difficult conditions and long transport distances also have to be tackled. TBM manufacturer and construction industry have developed a number of approaches to these challenges which point into the right technical direction and have been proven successfully in recent experiences. Their further development will allow attempting several megaprojects which are currently under discussion.

This review paper presents guidelines which stakeholders use in addressing on-farm tree planting configuration, establishment, tending, silvi- cultural management, management of pests and diseases, challenges and opportunities as practiced in the medium to high potential areas of Kenya. The tree planting configurations discussed includes blocks planting (woodlot), boundary, compound planting, home/fruit gardens, trees intercropped or mixed with pasture, trees on riverbanks and roadside. Participatory monitoring and evaluation techniques have been highlighted. The main challenges facing tree planting activities include culture and attitude of local people, land and tree tenure, inadequate technical support, lack of recognition and integration of technical information and indigenous knowledge, capital and labour shortages, lack of appropriate incentives measures, damage by domestic and wild animals, conflict over trees on the boundary and policy and legal issues. This guideline targets forest managers, extension agents, students and other practitioners in policy and day to day decision making processes in Kenya.

Purpose - This paper aims to explain that the Chinese distribution market will continue to bring tremendous business opportunities to commercial enterprises, given the relatively strong economic fundamentals and substantial government-led measures to boost domestic demand. Research design, data, methodology - A survey was conducted on China's retail market data during 2012. By empirically analyzing the data for retail sales of online markets and franchises, we conclude that the online retail market in China will continue to grow. Results - Based on data from 2012, 2013 is expected to be a challenging year for the retail sector, as both external and internal pressure is likely to persist. This paper outlines some major challenges facing retailers in China. Conclusions - The study shows that retailers in the Chinese market will face some major challenges: 1) the Chinese retail market is considerably affected by an uncertain economic outlook 2) an unfair environment of competition exists and 3) product safety is a serious issue. However, in the future, China's retail market will continue to bring tremendous business opportunities to commercial enterprises, given the relatively strong economic fundamentals and substantial government-led measures to boost domestic demand.

The paper at first gives an introduction to e-commerce, recalls the birth and the growth of an e-commerce giant Chinapages.com in the tough environment in the primary stage of the development of e-commerce in China, provides an overview of its e-business scope and its experience in its e-business development, then describes its present favorable and unfavorable e-business e-environment and its challenges in its future development. Finally it concludes that Chinapages' future is bright and promising with China's WTO entry just around the corner, if Chinapages takes advantages of the opportunities and faces the challenges with confidence and aggressiveness in the new era of e-commerce.

RFID has fundamental influences on today's business management. This research seeks to formulate the opportunities and challenges, the strengths and weaknesses and the perceived benefits of RFID implementation in three industries: manufacturing, medical-service, and distribution. Ten companies of successful RFID deployment in Korea are presented. Field interview and panel discussion were used to explore the research purpose. The core challenges include RFID readability issues, lack of best practices, increasing prime cost, visible ROI, implementation cost, and employee's resistance. The strengths include IT infrastructure, system integration competency, RFID business model creation ability, executive's support. There is little weakness in Korea companies, there are many perceived benefits in three industries. The most distinctive finding is that the visible ROI was found out in the manufacturing industry, not in the distribution industry. The opportunities and challenges, the strengths and weaknesses and the perceived benefits are some different in three industries, which provide valuable guidance for Korean companies in seeking the RFID opportunities. This case study represents a pioneer research of RFID adoption in Korea.

Knowledge Management (KM) has become a fundamental process for all types of institutions in society. Academic libraries are also an integral part of the knowledge system, these institutions being one of the forms that contribute to knowledge development. This study aims to find out the challenges and opportunities associated with KM practices in Dhaka University Library (DUL). The specific objectives were to ascertain the understanding of KM concepts among library professionals of DUL, to explore an overview of KM and its role, and to identify the rationale behind not practicing KM properly at DUL. Appropriate methods were employed. The findings indicate that limited expertise and lack of clear guidelines are the major challenges for the implementation of KM in DUL.

The fact that cloud computing services have been proposed in recent years, organizations and individuals face with various challenges and problems such as how to migrate applications and software platforms into cloud or how to ensure security of migrated applications. This study reviews the current challenges and open issues in cloud computing, with the focus on autonomic resource management especially in federated clouds. In addition, this study provides recommendations and research roadmaps for scientific activities, as well as potential improvements in federated cloud computing. This survey study covers results achieved through 190 literatures including books, journal and conference papers, industrial reports, forums, and project reports. A solution is proposed for autonomic resource management in the federated clouds, using machine learning and statistical analysis in order to provide better and efficient resource management.

This study qualitatively investigates the nature of the challenges that a student who is highly successful in mathematics faces in learning college-level elementary statistics. The study draws on the constructs of eagerness, flexibility and willingness to characterize the necessary disposition for critical thinking that is essential in learning statistics. The case study is based on data collected through a survey assessment and a follow-up interview with a mathematics major enrolled in an elementary college statistics course at the time of the study. The qualitative analysis relies on the student's verbal descriptions of the challenges he was experiencing in the course. The findings suggest that while his strong inclination towards inquisitive learning and strong understanding of mathematical concepts supported this student's mathematics learning, the same characteristics might have been causing him difficulties in learning college-level elementary statistics.

For the purpose, this study examines to identify factors influencing urban to rrual migration for farming. This study analyzed 217 urban to rural migrant farmers. The result of this study were as follows: the influence of the main variables on the agricultural challenges of the urban to rural migrant farmers were observed as the relationship of the level of financial preparations, the motivations of urban to rural migration, the agricultural income, the annual of urban to rural migration, the size of agricultural, gender, and age. This study result show that urban to rural migrant farmers' agricultural challenges is influenced by almost economical factors. Therefore, for the successful agricultural activities of the urban to rural migrant farmers show significant impact to need on the composite effort of all such as the individual, the family, the rural society, local autonomous entity, the government.

Recently, the importance of quality control on the online collaboration system is increasing, since it is realized that many participants do not guarantee the quality of online collaboration's output anymore. Hence in this paper, we propose the framework of quality control in order to assure the quality of output from online collaboration system. The proposed framework provides the solution strategies to overcome the challenges of current collaboration systems. To do that, first of all we define the basic process (create, initiate, discuss, complete) of the online collaboration system based on wiki-based system or open source project, and then we find the challenges in each online collaboration process, and propose the effective strategy to overcome these challenges with reference cases including Wikipedia, OSS project, etc.
