The Basic Study on Machinability of Ceramics in CO2 Laser Assisted Machining (CO2 레이저 보조가공에 의한 세라믹재료의 가공성에 관한 기초 연구)

  • Machinability of LAM(Laser Assisted Machining) has been studied for ceramics such as $Al_2O_3$, $Si_3_N4$ and $ZrO_2$ by $CO_2$ laser. It was possible to remove ceramics by PCBN tool because material became softening and deterioration by local laser beam irradiation. The advantage of LAM is the ability to produce larger material removal rates and tool life. But, for cutting of $Al_2O_3$ and $ZrO_2$, stage of laser power control was needed owing to thermal shock with high temperature of workpiece by laser power. And when $Si_3N_4$ was machined by LAM, $N_2$ gas spouted from surface of one cause of high temperature. Characteristics of LAM were analyzed using pyrometer, dynamometer, SEM and EDS to measure temperature of workpiece surface, cutting force, variation of machining surface and structure of lattice respectively. As the result of this study, it was found that machinability of LAM for ceramics in $CO_2$ laser and mechanism of LAM was different according to the kind of ceramics because of properties of materials.

  • The microwave dielectric properties of complex perovskite-structured $Ba(Mg_{1/3}Ta_{2/3})O_3$ ceramics were investigated with calcining condition. The BMT ceramics were prepared by conventional mixed oxide method. Calcining conditions were $1200^{\circ}C$ for 10hr., $1300^{\circ}C$ for 2hr., and 5hr., respectively. And the specimens were sintered at $1650{\mu}m$. The structural and microwave properties of BMT ceramics were investigated by XRD, SEM and network analyzer. In the case of BMT ceramics calcined at $1300^{\circ}C$ for 5 hr., dielectric constant, quality factor and temperature coefficient of resonant frequency were 20.26, 31,144(at 1GHz), 6.11[ppm/$^{\circ}C$], respectively.

  • The BaTiO$_3$+10wt%Nb$_2$O$_{5}$ ceramics were prepared by conventional mixed oxide method. The structural and dielectric properties of the BaTiO$_3$+10wt%Nb$_2$O$_{5}$ ceramics with the sintering temperature were investigated. Increasing the sintering temperature, the 2$\theta$ value of BaTiO$_3$peaks were shifted to the higher degree and intensity of the BaTiO$_3$and BaNbO$_3$peaks were increased. In the BaTiO$_3$+10wt%Nb$_2$O$_{5}$ ceramics sintered at 135$0^{\circ}C$ and 1375$^{\circ}C$, the grain was fine and uniform. Increasing the sintering temperature, the pore was decreased and the dielectric constant was increased. In the BaTiO$_3$+10wt%Nb$_2$O$_{5}$ ceramics sintered at 1375$^{\circ}C$, the dielectric constant and dielectric loss were 5424, 0.02 respectively.ctively.

  • The microwave dielectric properties and the structure of $Sb_2O_5$ modified $BiNb_xSb_{1-x}O_4$ ceramics were investigated. The structure of these ceramics were orthohombic phase at all sintering temperatures and there were not the second phase. These ceramics added sintering additive such as CuO and $V_2O_5$ were sinterable at a low temperature$(880^{\circ}C{\sim}960^{\circ}C)$ by liquid phase. Dielectric properties of $BiNb_xSb_{1-x}O_4$ ceramics were also improved than these of $BiNbO_4$ ceramics. The content of modified atom controlled the microstructure, dielectric constant and quality factor. As a result, We could obtain following result; ${\varepsilon}r$=42~44, $Q{\cdot}f_0$=20,000~42,000GHz, $\tau_f=-7{\sim}-28ppm/^{\circ}C$.

Effect of Pr6O11/CoO Ratio on Electrical Characteristics of ZPCD-Based varistor Ceramics (ZPCD계 바리스터 세라믹스의 전기적 특성에 Pr6O11/CoO 비의 영향)

  • The microstructure and electrical characteristics of ZPCD (ZnO-$Pr_{6}O_{11}$-CoO-$Dy_2O_3$) -based varistor ceramics were investigated with various $Pr_{6}O_{11}$/CoO ratios and sintering temperatures. The density of varistor ceramics with $Pr_{6}O_{11}$=1.0 was almost constant with sintering temperature, whereas it was increased noticeably in $Pr_{6}O_{11}$=0.5. Increasing $Pr_{6}O_{11}$ content enhanced the densification for any CoO content and the density was greatly affected not by CoO content but by $Pr_{6}O_{11}$ content. The varistor ceramics with $Pr_{6}O_{11}$/CoO=0.5/l.0 exhibited a higher nonlinearity than any other composition ratios. In particular, the varistor ceramics sintered at $1350^{\circ}C$ exhibited the best electrical properties, with nonlinear exponent of 37.8, leakage current of 7.6 ${\mu}$A, and tan $\delta$ of 0.059.

Electrical properties of $CuAlO_2$ ceramics doped with Be (Be을 첨가한 $CuAlO_2$ 세라믹의 전기적 특성)

  • [ $CuAlO_2$ ] was used as P-type transparent conducting oxide. $CuAlO_2$ ceramics was obtained from heating a stoichiometric mixture of $Cu_2O$ and $Al_2OH_3$ at $1200^{\circ}C$ for 6h. $CuAlO_2$ ceramics were doped by the rate of 0, 5, 7 and 10% of the $BeSO_4{\cdot}4H_2O$. Sintered ceramics were investigated by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and electrical measurements. The room temperature conductivity of the ceramics, which were doped with $BeSO_4{\cdot}4H_2O$ 5wt% was of the order of $3.19\times10^{-3}S\;cm^{-1}$, and the density was $4.98g/cm^3$. Therefor the conductivity and density in $BeSO+4{\cdot}4H_2O$ 5wt% were better than other cases. Additionally, Seebeck cofficient measurements revealed that these ceramics were p-type semiconductors and the ceramic conductivity increased with the growth temperature.

  • Automatic train control systems are divided into ATC, ATP and ATS systems etc. The ATP and ATS systems offer discontinuous information for train control. While the ATC systems provide continueous information for train control. There is a method for offering continuous information by AF track circuits. Magnetic fields are formed by current through rails in the AF track circuit systems. So, the continuous information is received by the magnetic fields on a on-board antenna. Coating materials on rails are researched to decrease defects such as head check, shelling, corrugation, squats and so on in Germany. Currently, a coating method of rail construction is proposed by using the ceramics in Korea. When deciding physical characteristic of ceramics, researches are required about variation of flux density by the ceramics. In case that the flux density is much lower than existing value, the information for train control is not transmitted to the on-board antenna. In this paper, inductance on rails is calculated and a model is presented about variation of the magnetic field intensity in the AF track circuit. Standard permeability of ceramics is proposed by analyzing the variation of magnetic field intensity. It is demonstrated by using Maxwell and Matlab program.

  • The $BaTiO_{3}+xNb_{2}O_{5}$[x=6, 8, 10wt%] ceramics were prepared by conventional mixed oxide method. The structural properties of the $BaTiO_{3}+xNb_{2}O_{5}$ ceramics with the sintering temperature and addition of $Nb_{2}O_{5}$ were investigated by XRD and SEM. Increasing the sintering temperature, the $2{\Theta}$ value of BT (110) peak was shifted to the lower degree and intensity of the BN (310) peak was increased. Increasing the addition of $Nb_{2}O_{5}$, the intensity of BN (100) peak was decreased and BN (310), (110) peaks were increased. The grain size of the $BaTiO_{3}+xNb_{2}O_{5}$ ceramics sintered at $1350^{\circ}C$ were almost uniform. In the $BaTiO_{3}+xNb_{2}O_{5}$ ceramics sintered at $1350^{\circ}C$, the dielectric constant and dielectric loss were 5424, 0.02 respectively.

DC Accelerated Aging Characteristics of $ZnO-Pr_{6}O_{11}$ Based Varistor Ceramics ($ZnO-Pr_{6}O_{11}$계 바리스터 세라믹스의 직류가속열화 특성)

  • The stability against DC accelerated aging stress of $Dy_{2}O_{3}-doped$ $ZnO-Pr_{6}O_{11}-based$ varistor ceramics was investigated. The calculated nonlinear exponent$(\alpha)$ in varistor ceramics without $Dy_{2}O_{3}$ was only 4.9, whereas the $\alpha$ value of the varistors with $Dy_{2}O_{3}$ was abruptly increased in the range of 48.8 to 58.6. The varistor ceramics with $Dy_{2}O_{3}$ content of 1.0 mol% exhibited maximum ${\alpha}$, reaching 58.6, whereas they exhibited very poor stability. While, The varistor ceramics doped with 0.5 mol% $Dy_{2}O_{3}$ exhibited not only the high nonlinearity, which the ${\alpha}$ is 55.3 and the leakage current is $0.1{\mu}A$, but also the highest stability, which the variation rates of varistor voltage and nonlinear exponent are -0.8% and -14.3%, respectively, under DC accelerated aging stress, $0.95 V_{1mA}/150^{\circ}C/24h$.

Dielectric and Electrocaloric Properties of Ba(Ti1-xZrx)O3 Ceramics (Ba(Ti1-xZrx)O3 세라믹스의 유전 및 전기열량 특성)

  • In this study, in order to develop composition ceramics for refrigeration device application at a temperature of less than $90^{\circ}C$, a $Ba(Ti_{1-x}Zr_x)O_3$ composition was fabricated using a conventional solid-state method. Electrocaloric properties of these ceramics were investigated using the characteristics of P-E hysteresis loops in a wide temperature range from room temperature to $150^{\circ}C$. The Curie temperature of $Ba(Ti_{1-x}Zr_x)O_3$ ceramics decreased with the increase of x. The maximum value of ${\Delta}T=0.07^{\circ}C$ in an ambient temperature of $85^{\circ}C$ under 30 kV/cm appeared when x = 0.125. It was concluded that the composition (x = 0.125) ceramics can be used for refrigeration device applications.
