This paper deals with the electric insulator in terms of its toughness. The toughness is determined by the notched beam test and it is found that the toughness of electric insulator largely depends on the porosity as well as crystalline phases. This study also indicates that the Korean electric insulators have improved its toughness for last seven years and the recent products show comparable properties with imported insulator.
We studied a pollution mechanism for simulation of contamination environment in industrial concentrated area of around a metropolitan that made to circulated flow in the chamber. In case of the virgin both side of EPDM or Silicon insulator, we confirmed that the pollution to much more than service insulator in the field. Also contamination of initial state of the virgin didn't falling in spite of physical outside factor easily. This study confirmed to that the silicon was too much accumulated pollution contrast to EPDM insulator from scatter(spray) point to regular interval position use the Kaolin contaminant in the chamber. There are effected to the hydrophobicity of polymer insulator due to the pollution. In ceramic insulator, we get to know that pollution is much more at the Post insulator with vertical than with horizontal setup insulator.

The triggered vacuum switch (TVS) discharges high current through two processes. In the first process, an igniting plasma is generated at a trigger system, and the next process that a main discharge is taken place sequentially at a six-gap rod electrode within a few microsecond. In general, a triggered voltage producing the igniting plasma is increased. However, after several hundred shots, it goes down and stable, in our experiment the trigger voltage is about 5 kV after 250 shots. This triggered characteristics comes from the ceramic insulator which is covered by an electrode material, therefore we have focused on the first igniting plasma process. The igniting plasma has been generated at the surface of a ceramic insulator under a strong electric field. The electric field can be increased through modifying geometries of trigger components which compose of a trigger pin, a ceramic insulator and an enclosed holder. We fabricated not only two types of trigger pin which are a plane head and an umbrella head type, but two different holders which are a concave and a convex type. In this paper the result that the dependency of geometries for these four combined types is included, but the study of the ceramic insulator is not. The research of the ceramic insulator will be announced in the other paper.

Thermal conductivity of ceramic fibrous insulator was analysed and predicted by using the modeling/simulation technique. Ceramic fibrous insulators are widely used as high temperature insulator on account of their lightweight mass and heat resisting properties. Especially it is suitable to protect the high speed aircraft and missiles from severe aero-thermodynamic heating. Thermal conductivity of ceramic fibrous insulator could be determined from the conductive heat transfer and the radiative heat transfer through the insulator. In order to estimate conductive thermal conductivity, homogenization technique was applied, while radiative thermal conductivity was computed by means of random number and radiation probability. Particularly radiation probability can make it possible to estimate the conductivity of fibrous insulator without any experimental constant. The calculated conductivity predicted in the present study have a reasonable accuracy with an average error of 7 percent to experimental data.

Heat insulator materials can be classified inorganic and organic. The organic material is due to toxic gas emission, when a fire occurs. And it has lower water resistance. The inorganic material is heavy and worse thermal performance than organic materials. In this study, cullet and fly ash were used as basic materials in order to secure a recycling technology of by-products which was mostly discarded and reclimed, and measure of physical properties of light-weight ceramic insulator.

Finite element analyses of the ceramic drying process are performed. The heat and moisture movements in green ceramics caused by temperature gradient, moisture gradient, conduction, convection and evaporation are considered. The finite element formulation for solving the temperature and moisture distributions which not only change the volume but also induce the hygro-thermal stress is carried out. In order to verify the formulation, the drying process of a ceramic electric insulator is simulated. Temperature distribution, moisture distribution, and hygro-thermal stress are compared with those of other researcher. Good agreements are achieved.

A ceramic vacuum chamber feedthrough ceramic insulator is made of Al2O3; the manufacturing process involves filling alumina powder into a urethane mold and pressing it with a rubber press to produce a molded body. Thereafter, manufacturing is completed through primary shape processing, sintering, and secondary shape processing in the green body, which is a pressurized molding body, This work is intended to prevent defects in the first shape processing by improving the ceramic insulator in the green body, and to improve the productivity of the ceramic insulator by determining the optimal processing conditions.
Non-ceramic composite insulator has been interested in the power industry because of its good characteristics in mechanical properties, mass product and design availability. Also it is lighter, and less unexplosive, compared to a ceramic insulator. Especially EPDM rubber composite insulator can be used for long-term in contaminated environments because of its hydrophobicity. This paper showed the rheological properties, the electrical properties, and contact angles to check the hydrophobicity and the recoverability of the EPDM compounds. Also, we investigated surface morphology of the compound by SEM.
Insulators which are used in the domestic electrical industries are mostly depended on importation from some advance countries. Even though insulators which are made of ceramic material have been mostly used domestically, the ratio of usage on composite insulators is recently being increased because of difficulties in manufacturing and high cost regarding ceramic stuffs. In this research, we are trying to develop the composite insulators which are very efficient in insulation regardless of the matter of weight. Even though the technique of manufacturing composite insulator are quite generalized worldwide at the moment, one of the most important issue is to keep security on the know-how that an ingredient of insulated material named 'SF6 gas' is included. Therefore, The aim of this paper is to improve the bonding force and air tight property between two components of composite insulator, Flange and FRP Tube.
