  • This study was carried out to analyse the central functions of district-load areas (Eup or Myon in Korea) in the neighbourhood zone of Saemankeum Reclamation Area. From the calculation results of their functional indices, only 4 areas were selected as the second-order centers, while remaining 12 areas as the third-order centers. (key villages)

  • 한국의 배전선로 자동화시스템은 기술발전과 경제성을 고려하여 대규모와 소규모 시스템으로 나누어져 개발되어 설치 운영되고 있으며, 2001년 말까지 173개 사업소에 소규모 시스템이 설치 완료될 예정이다. 2002년부터는 서울시내를 시작으로 대규모 시스템이 설치되고 대도시를 중심으로 점차 소규모 시스템도 업그레이드 할 계획이므로 금년은 중대한 전환점이라 할 수 있다. 따라서 그동안의 배전선로 자동하 추진현황을 살펴보고 문제점을 고찰해 보았다.

A Study on the Characteristic of the Folk Houses' Plans compared with Central Region's ones in Che-chun City (중부형민가와 비교를 통한 제천지역 민가의 평면특성에 관한 조사연구)

  • After 18th century in Korea, a tendency of the traditional folk houses shows not only the typical types but also the cultural areas in terms of each regional part. The existing folk houses are selected in order to compare the characteristic of the plans with those of the central region in Korea. Moreover this region has been a collided zone of culture and military from the old period of the Three Kingdoms, because the district of Che-chun is located between the southern part and the central one. So its culture and housing plan showed as unique forms, so-called the Culture of Frontier and Composite. Consequently the purposes of this study are to grasp the characteristic of those plans and to compare the plan types with ones of the central region. For the attainment of the above goal, this investigated study is prosecuted by means of the existing 6-folk houses in Che-chun city.

  • The transferal of districts encircled with walls and the characteristics of newly formed districts' location, structure and view are analyzed in this study with an example of Nakan Eupseong in Suncheon, Jeolla-do, which shows the best case of restoration of districts and interior structures to the original state of those in Joseon Dynasty. The results can be summarized as following: First of all, the district of Nakan-gun has transferred in 1424 from today's Goeup-ri in Beolgyo-eup, Boseong-gun to Nakan Eupseong in Nakan-myeon, Suncheon-si. Secondarily, Nakan Eupseong, the newly formed district, followed the example of Hanyang, the capital city, almost exactly in location, structure, view, and etc, due to the drastically planned designs under the participation of the central government. Thirdly, the native forces of Nakan wanted to deny the new district till 1451, and the inertia of old district had strongly remained until the late 1400's. Last of all, Joseon dynasty's typical theory of divination based on topography was clearly systemized and stated in the materials written after the 1700's.

Location Analysis for Public Sector's Development of Mixed-Use Complex (입체복합개발을 위한 공공 입지여건 분석)

  • The purpose of this paper is to analysis spatial locations for public sector's development of mixed-use complex. The results of analysis of location characteristics and public sector's participation conditions are as follows. The central commercial district of new town, surroundings of new railway station, and old town center are likely to be appropriate in the case of a functional mixed-use considering acceptable use in accord with mixed-use complex. Development potential is also high at places such as railway adjacent area in old town and relocation of downtown improper facilities including previous three cases. And development of various size such as lot, block and district can be applied at central commercial district of new town, center and subcenter of old town, surroundings of new railway station. The result of analysis of public sector's participation conditions is appropriate in central commercial district of new town by public sector, relocation of downtown improper facilities and old site of transferring public facilities. They can be contribute to grow up new town by public-private partnership and to improve urban circumstances and publicness by development old site coupled with new site of transferring public facilities.

Utilisation of Non Timber Forest Products in Botswana: The Case of Commercialisation of Mopane Worms (Imbraisia belina) in Central District, Botswana

  • In Botswana, mopane worms are widely harvested for household consumption. They are also traded for income generation. Urban based entrepreneurs' source mopane worms from rural areas to sell. The price of sourcing mopane worms from the harvesters has increased quite incredibly in villages. However, there is dearth of academic studies on the commercialisation of mopane worms in Botswana. This paper uses primary data collected from multiple sources to investigate the factors influencing the prices of mopane worms. Data collection involved administration of questionnaires to purposively selected harvesters in four campsites in the Central District, focus group discussions at each campsite and key informant interviews. The results show that there is declining population of mopane worms. The decline is attributable to such factors as over-harvesting and climate change which are the main factors influencing the price of mopane worms. In addition to physical scarcity of mopane worms, institutional weaknesses exist in the study area. The Agricultural Resources Conservation Act is ineffective and the majority of the harvesters are unaware of its existences. It is recommended that the regulations on the harvesting of mopane worms be reviewed. In order to benefit harvesters, mopane worms should be processed to add diversified economic value to rural communities.

A Study on the Characteristics of Management Costs of Apartment Complexes by the Types of Heating Systems (난방방식에 따른 아파트 관리비용의 실태에 관한 연구 - 대전광역시를 대상으로 -)

  • The aim of the study is to estimate the management costs of apartments by the types of heating systems(individual, central, district heating system). Multiple regression analysis was adapted and the used data are derived from 128 apartment complexes in Daegeon-si. The results are as follows; first, the management cost is decreased as a size of apartment is larger, second, the costs of general maintenance, security and repairing of buildings are lower in individual heating system. however, there is no significant differences in cleaning costs by the types of heating systems.

  • According to the changing of administrative environment from the high-leveled industrial age to the informational and international open door age, necessity of governmental officials re-training has been being emphasized. For leveling up the re-training effect, leveling up of the instructors' capability is strongly required with enlargement of re-training participating opportunity and the development of curriculum. The authors carried out a study on the securing status of instructors for the governmental officials training facilities and picked up some problems involved. Required academic career of instructors which is certified as holders of bachelor degree or more for the central training facilities and junior college graduate diploma or more for the district ones looks too low considering with trainees' age, academic career and social experiment. Then it should be leveled up to the holders of master degree or more for the central facilities and bachelor degree or more for the district ones. Required official career of instructors for specific subjects which is certified as three years or more looks so short that should be enlarged to five years or more. Preliminary training for instructors themselves should be reinforced before appointing the instructors to have a study on the teaching method and concerned subjects, and also the career of instructors should be reflected with advantage to the promotion of officials.

  • Electric energy is indispensible of the development of the industrial and living sector. Among the energy sectors, the building area shares 20% of the produced electric power in Korea. As we plan to supply the apartment, we need to forecast the required amount of the electric energy and supply the infrastructure to apartment for the lighting, cooling. Nonetheless, it is not easy to forecast the required amount of the electric energy, considering the management aspect, building physical aspect and social-geographic aspect. In this paper, it studied the estimation model of the electric energy, reflecting the affecting variables such as total area, number of household, geography and so on. The estimation model is proposed in 3-types which explained in central heating, individual heating and district heating, and each type have two estimation model, reflecting the affecting variable and corelation between variables to eliminate the muticolinearity. The unit of electric energy consumption per area and year is similar in three heating type and the results are as follows; the central heating is $34.446kWh/yr{\cdot}m^2$, individual type is $35.756446kWh/yr{\cdot}m^2$ and district heating is $34.285446kWh/yr{\cdot}m^2$.

A Flow Analysis of a Refrigeration Warehouse where an Unusual Death of an Operator Occurred by Deficiency of Oxygen

  • A numerical flow analysis of the case of a refrigeration warehouse where an unusual death of an operator occurred by deficiency of oxygen is performed by using STAR-CD program of the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) code. The refrigeration room of the warehouse for storing the fruits maintains an atmosphere of 95% nitrogen and 5% oxygen by volume. When the operator was found dead in the refrigeration room, the room was in normal operating conditions except for the fact that the auxiliary door had been left open. For the flow analysis, unsteady 3-dimensional natural convection with mass transfer is considered. The flow analysis result is compared with the oxygen concentration level measured against time during on-site investigation. The change in oxygen concentration level in the warehouse due to the opening of the auxiliary door is found to be negligible.
