A miniaturized CMOS bandpass filter for a single RF transceiver system is presented, using diagonally end-shorted coupled lines and lumped capacitors. In contrast to conventional miniaturized coupled line filters, it is proven that the effective permittivity variation of the coupled transmission line has no effect on shifting the center frequency when the bandpass filter is highly miniaturized. A bandpass filter at a center frequency of 2 GHz was fabricated by $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS technology. The insertion loss with the die area of $1500{\mu}m{\times}1000{\mu}m$ is -5.14 dB. Simulated results are well agreed with the easurements. It also verify the center frequency stability in the compact size bandpass filter.
In this paper, we proposed a method of a hearing aid suitable for the sensorineural hearing impaired. Generally as the sensorineural hearing impaired have narrow audible ranges between threshold and discomfortable level, the speech spectrum may easily go beyond their audible range. Therefore speech spectrum must be optimally amplified and compressed into the impaired's audible range. The level and frequency of input speech signal are varied continuously. So we have to make compensation input signal for frequency-gain loss of the impaired, specially in the frequency band which includes much information. The input sigaal is divided into short time block and spectrum within the block is calculated. The frequency-gain characteristic is determined using the calculated spectrum. The number of frequency band and the target gain which will be added input signal are estimated. The input signal within the block is processed by a single digital filter with the calculated frequency-gain characteristics. From the results of monosyllabic speech tests to evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithm, the scores of test were improved.
The nuclear power plants in South Korea have been designed in accordance with the U.S. Regulatory Guide 1.60 (R.G 1.60) design spectrum of which the peak frequency range is 2-10 Hz. The characteristics of the earthquakes at the Korea nuclear power plant sites were observed to be closer to that of Central and Eastern United States (CEUS) than the R.G 1.60, which is a lower amplification in a low frequency range, and a higher amplification in a high frequency range. The possibility of failure for sensitive power plant components in the high frequency range has been considered and evaluated. In this study, in order to improve the reliability of nuclear plant and administrative control procedures, seismic tests of an emergency diesel generator (EDG) were conducted using a shaking table under both high and low frequency ranges. From the tests, oil/lubricant leaks from the bolt connections, the fuel filter and the fuel inlet were observed. Therefore, the check list of nuclear plant components after an earthquake should include bolt connections of EDG as well as anchor bolts.
We demonstrated an optical frequency synthesizer based on a femtosecond (fs) mode-locked Ti:sapphire (Ti:s) laser by simultaneously stabilizing the carrier-offset frequency, $f_{ceo}$, and repetition rate, $f_{ rep}$, referenced to the Cs atomic frequency standard. By using two wide-band digital phase-detectors we realized a phase-coherent link between $f_{rep} and f_{ceo} with the relation f_{ceo} = f_{AOM} 5/6f_{rep} ≡ 0, where f_{AOM} = 5/6f_{rep}$ is the phase-locked driving frequency of an acousto-optic modulator (AOM) in a self-referencing interferometer and $f_{rep}$ = 100 MHz. As a result, we could stabilize all components of the fs laser comb at once with an equal frequency separation $f_{rep}$ = 100 MHz with $f_{ceo}$ = 0. In our optical frequency synthesizer, the frequency of the nth component ($f_{n}$) is given exactly by the simple relation $f_n = nf_{rep}$, enabling us to use the fs laser comb as a frequency ruler in the optical frequency metrology.

Objectives: The objective of this study was to assess the effects of acupuncture applied at PC6 and SP4 points on heart rate variability (HRV) in normal subjects under mental stress Methods: 24 healthy male subjects were recruited and randomized to a treatment group (12 subjects) or a control group (12 subjects). Both groups performed a mental arithmetic stress test and then acupuncture needles were inserted on PC6 and SP4 for the study group. In the control group, they took sham acupuncture as a control. Heart rate variability (HRV) was measured during the whole study period by FM-150 (digital Holter ECG recorder). Results: In the both groups, low frequency (LF) power and ratio of low frequency to high frequency (LF/HF) was significantly increased after mental stress. Acupuncture induced significant decrease in low frequency (LF) power and ratio of low frequency to high frequency (LF/HF) which were increased after mental stress test. But sham acupuncture induced no changes. Results: In both groups, low frequency (LF) power and ratio of low frequency to high frequency (LF/HF) significantly increased after mental stress. Acupuncture induced significant decrease in low frequency (LF) power and ratio of low frequency to high frequency (LF/HF) which increased after mental stress test. In contrast, sham acupuncture induced no changes. Conclusions: Acupuncture on PC6 and SP4 could be useful to decrease sympathetic activity and balance autonomic nervous system for those who are under stress.
This paper presents a new ZVS-PWM high frequency inverter. The ZVS operation is achieved in the whole load range by using a simple auxiliary reverse blocking switch in parallel with series resonant capacitor. The operating principle and the operating characteristics of the new high frequency circuit treated here are illustrated and evaluated on the basis of simulation results. It was examined that the complete soft switching operation can be achieved even for low power setting ranges by introducing the high frequency dual duty cycle control scheme. In the proposed high frequency inverter treated here, the dual mode pulse modulation control strategy of the asymmetrical PWM in the higher power setting ranges and the lower power setting ones, the output power of this high frequency inverter could introduce in order to extend soft switching operation ranges. Dual duty cycle is used to provide a wide range of output power regulation that is important in many high frequency inverter applications. It is more suitable for induction heating applications the operation and control principle of the proposed high frequency inverter are described and verified through simulated results.

This paper presents soft switching zero voltage switching high frequency inverter for rare gas fluorescent lamp using dielectric-barrier discharge phenomenon. The simple high-frequency inverter can completely achieve stable zero voltage soft switching (ZVS) commutation for wide its output power regulation ranges and load variations under its constant high frequency pulse density modulation (PDM) scheme. Its transient and steady state operating principle is originally described and discussed for a constant high-frequency PDM control strategy under a stable ZVS operation commutation, together with its output effective power regulation characteristics-based on the high frequency PDM strategy. The experimental operating performances of this high frequency Inverter are illustrated as compared with computer simulation results and experimental ones. Its light dimming characteristics due to power regulation scheme are evaluated and discussed on the basis of simulation and experimental results. The feasible effectiveness of this high frequency inverter appliance implemented here is proven from the practical point of view.

In order to drive gas discharge lamps, DC-AC converters with a LCC resonant tank, whose output voltage is adjusted by a variable frequency control are frequently used. However, when they are activated by varying the operating frequency, converters are frequently damaged by unstable operation, due to the rising and falling of the operating frequency near the resonant frequency. To solve this problem, a simple protection circuit for the power supply of a gas discharge lamp is proposed in this paper. This circuit senses the primary current of the main transformer. Using this protection circuit, the operating frequency of the lamp driving inverter system is kept close to and on the right side of the resonant frequency and the inverter is always operated in the ZVS condition. The resulting stable variable frequency operation allows various gas discharge lamps to be tested without the risk of damaging the main switches, because the protection circuit can protect the power MOSFETs of bridge converters from abnormal conditions. The validity and effectiveness of the proposed protection circuit are verified through the experimental results.

This paper presents a novel soft-switching PWM utility frequency AC to high frequency AC power conversion circuit incorporating boost-half-bridge inverter topology, which is more suitable and acceptable for cost effective consumer induction heating applications. The operating principle and the operation modes are presented using the switching mode and the operating voltage and current waveforms. The performances of this high-frequency inverter using the latest IGBTs are illustrated, which includes high frequency power regulation and actual efficiency characteristics based on zero voltage soft switching (ZVS) operation ranges and the power dissipation as compared with those of the previously developed high-frequency inverter. In addition, a dual mode control scheme of this high frequency inverter based on asymmetrical pulse width modulation (PWM) and pulse density modulation (PDM) control scheme is discussed in this paper in order to extend the soft switching operation ranges and to improve the power conversion efficiency at the low power settings. The power converter practical effectiveness is substantially proved based on experimental results from practical design example.
