Relationships on Parents' Authoritative Parenting Attitude, Adolescent's Emotional Bonding with Parents and Cellular Phone Addiction: The Mediating Effect of Impulsiveness (청소년자녀 부모의 권위주의적 양육태도, 부모와의 정서적 유대와 휴대폰 중독 - 충동성의 매개효과를 중심으로 -)

  • The purpose of this study is to find the correlation between authoritative parenting attitudes, emotional bonding of adolescents with parents, impulsiveness and cellular phone addiction. The paper will also explore the mediating role of impulsiveness between adolescents' emotional bonding with parents, authoritative parenting attitudes and cellular phone addiction. The subjects were made up of 237 adolescents. The data were analyzed with frequency, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation and structural equation modeling by PASW and AMOS. The instruments used were Lee et al. (1997) Parenting Attitude, Hudson (1982) Child's Attitude Toward Parent (CATP), Lee (2001) BIS (Barnett Impulsiveness Scale) and Lee (2008) Cellular Phone Addiction. The major findings were as follows: the sex of the adolescents was significantly different with cellular phone addiction and their family economic status was significantly different with adolescents' emotional bonding with parents and cellular phone addiction. Authoritative parenting attitude was negatively correlated with adolescents' emotional bonding with parents and positively correlated with impulsiveness and cellular phone addiction. Emotional bonding of adolescents with parents was negatively correlated with impulsiveness and cellular phone addiction. Adolescents' emotional bonding with parents influenced impulsiveness and cellular phone addiction negatively, and impulsiveness mediated the effects of adolescents' emotional bonding with parents, authoritative parenting attitude and cellular phone addiction. Authoritative parenting attitude influenced adolescents' impulsiveness and cellular phone addiction positively, but impulsiveness influenced cellular phone addiction positively. In conclusion, it is important to intervene in adolescents' cellular phone addiction through special education programs and counseling to build adolescents' emotional bonding with parents and to reduce impulsiveness.

  • This study investigated firstly the cellular phone addiction tendency according to the classification of addiction, dependency, non-addiction and predicting factors of cellular phone use and secondly the psycho-social characteristics of cellular phone use by adolescent'. Participants were 368 students of academic and occupational high schools in Seoul. A prediction model of cellular phone addiction tendency was developed and show떠 that there were significant effects of cellular phone use-time, use-motives, counseling experience, impulsiveness, and depression on cellular phone addiction.

The Effect of Adolescents' Time Perspective and Self-Control on Academic Procrastination : The Mediating Effect of Cellular Phone Addiction (청소년의 시간관과 자기통제력이 학업적 지연행동에 미치는 영향 : 휴대폰 중독의 매개효과)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of time perspective, self-control and cellular phone addiction on academic procrastination, and to cellular phone addiction has any mediating effects in relation to the effects of adolescents' time perspective and self-control on academic procrastination. For this study, a survey was conducted with total 651 students in middle and high schools. Those who omitted responses or answered in ways which were otherwise invalid were excluded and finally, questionnaires responded to by 558 students were analyzed. Employing SPSS Win 12.0, average value, standard deviation, frequency analysis, Pearson's correlation analysis, stepwise multiple regression analysis, and simple linear regression analysis were used for the purposes of statistical analysis. In conclusion, first, explanations were made in order of future-oriented time perspective which is subordinate domain of view of time perspective, self-control, and cellular phone addiction. Second, it was found that cellular phone addiction has partially mediating effect on the relationships between future-oriented time perspective which is a subordinate area of adolescents' time perspective, and academic procrastination. Third, it was found that cellular phone addiction has partially mediating effect on the relationships between adolescents' self-control and academic procrastination.

Effects of Depression Scale, Interaction Anxiety and School Adjustment on Cellular Phone Addiction of Teenagers (청소년의 우울, 대인불안, 학교적응이 휴대전화 중독에 미치는 영향)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the predictors of students depress, Interaction anxiety, school adjustment on cellular phone addiction of teenagers. The subjects for this study were 613 teenagers composed of 249 middle school students, 337 high school students in Daejeon. The data was conducted by using a correlations coefficient and the multiple regression analysis. According to the analysis result, correlations among measured variables of students depress, interaction anxiety, school adjustment, cellular phone addiction were significant. Secondly, the multiple regression analysis result showed that students depress, peer relations, and interaction anxiety variables to most greatly explain cellular phone addiction. These results indicate that cellular phone addiction related to depress, interaction anxiety of teenagers.

Relationship between Anxiety and Cellular Phone Addiction in Undergraduate Students: The Mediating Effect of Adjustment to College Life (대학생의 불안과 휴대폰 중독과의 관계: 대학생활적응의 매개효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate an association between anxiety, cellular phone addiction and adjustment to college life in undergraduate students using structural equating model (SEM). This study was verify whether adjustment to college life mediated the relationship between anxiety and cellular phone addiction. Participants of this study were 479 undergraduate students in Gwangju city in accordance to convenience sampling. SPSS 15.0 was employed for descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation coefficient, calculation for cronbach's ${\alpha}$ coefficient, exploratory factor analysis. Also, AMOS 7.0 was employed for confirmative factor analysis and path analysis of casual relation among variables and effect. The results of this study can be summarized as follows. First, anxiety had a negative effect on adjustment to college life and adjustment to college life had a negative effect on cellular phone addiction. Second, anxiety had a positive effect on cellular phone addiction. Third, it was founded that adjustment to college life partially mediated the relationship between anxiety and cellular phone addiction.

The Relationship among Cellular Phone Addiction, Depression, Anxiety, and School Life Satisfaction Perceived by Students (학생들의 휴대폰 중독과 우울, 불안, 학교생활만족도와의 관계)

  • The purpose of this study was to find out the relationship among cellular phone addiction, depression, anxiety, and school life satisfaction by examining 284 elementary school students, especially the fifth and sixth graders in Gyeonggi province. This study was done by dividing two groups with top 25 percent and the lowest 25 percent of group(addicts' group vs. non-addicts' group), and 144 out of 284 elementary school students were used for this study. According to the survey, it turned out that the significant variables to predict the addiction are school life satisfaction, learning, classroom setting, and school events, including the top variables of anxiety and depression. And a further point is that relationship satisfaction, anxiety, depression, physical setting, and class satisfaction show how much students are addicted to cellular phone. Finally, this paper suggests the limitation and efficiency of the study compared to previous studies.

Middle School Students' Addicted Use of Cellular Phone and their Psychosocial Characteristics (중학생에서 휴대폰의 중독적 사용 정도와 사회.심리적 특성)

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to describe the state of middle school students' addicted use of a cellular phone and their psychosocial characteristics and to examine differences in psychosocial factors as impulsivity, stress, anxiety and classroom attitudes according to the level of addiction. Method: As the subjects of this study, 747 middle school students who use a cellular phone in B Metropolitan City were selected through stratified random sampling, and they were asked to answer a self-administered study questionnaire. Data were analyzed using frequency, descriptive statistics, $x^2-test$, t-test, and one-way ANOVA. Results Among the respondents, 15.7% fell into the addicted user group while 56.0% fell into the dependent user group and 28.3% turned out to be non-addicted users. The levels of impulsivity, stress and anxiety were higher in the addicted user group than in the dependent user group and the non-addicted user group. The addicted user group also showed a very bad learning attitude. Conclusion: Addiction to the use of a cellular phone, which may have negative influences on the users' psychosocial characteristics, needs to be detected earlier, and preventive education should be offered in order to prevent such addiction.

Effects of Self Esteem, Impulsive Behavior and Mental Health on Cellular Phone Addiction of Adolescents (청소년의 자아존중감, 충동성 및 정신건강이 휴대전화 중독에 미치는 영향)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was done to investigate the relationship between self esteem, impulsive behavior and mental health among adolescents who were cellular phone addiction and those who were not. Methods: The data were collected using questionnaire from the sample of 239 middle school students. The data were collected from April 8 to 19, 2013. Data were analyzed using frequencies, means, ${\chi}^2$-test, Fisher's exact test, t-test and logistic regression analysis with SPSS 20.0. Results: Firstly, Significant differences were found for grade, sex, period, buying motives, the number of the messages/day, use, phone bill, callers between students who were cellular phone addiction and those who were not. Secondly, Self esteem for the cellular phone addiction were lower than for those in the non-addiction group, and impulsive behavior and mental health were higher. Thirdly, The logistic regression analysis revealed that self esteem, non-planning impulsiveness, mental health total, grade, sex, period, and the number of the messages/day significantly associated with being a cellular phone addiction. Conclusions: The result of this study offer basic data for the development of intervention programs to prevent adolescents cellular phone addiction.

A Study on the Artistic Representation of the Cellular-Phone Addiction and the Personal Data Leakage of Modern Society

  • Although the development of digital technology and network has brought great convenience in modern lives, amongst the aggravated complexity in the contemporary society, modern minds who have failed to create genuine relationships undergo a sense of alienation and solitude that may appear as a type of social pathology called cellular-phone addiction. Also, while the emergence of the information age seemingly brings about benefits including diverse acquisition regarding knowledge and broader communication, underneath exists side effects involving leakage of private information. Especially, being excessively addicted to relationship network may induce one to become insensitive towards leakage of private information without recognizing, and thereby instigating yet another social problem. Media art is very practical in terms of suggesting a critical perspective concerning social phenomena and elevating them into a work of art by rendering them artistically. Particularly, when social problems of the modern days are expressed through digital technology, media art provides the audience with a foundation that will enable them to sympathize without hostility. This dissertation calls attention to the contemporary problems regarding cellular-phone addiction and possible hazards of information leakage based on media art, while at the same time proposing the production process of a media art work that attempts to raise awareness and sympathy on such social issues.

Characteristics of MMPI of Adolescent Cellular Phone Addicts (휴대폰 중독적 사용 청소년의 MMPI 특성)

  • The purposes of this study were to investigate the actual conditions and deal with the psychological characteristics of adolescent cellular phone addicts through the Minnesota Multiphase Personality Inventory (MMPI). The subjects of this study were 407 senior high school students (male 185, female 222) in 2nd grade in Daegu. The cellular phone addiction inventory (CPAI) was designed on the basis of an interview process, referring to the Young's Internet Addiction Self Diagnosis Scale. SPSS version 10.0 was employed for data analysis. The mean score of the adolescent addict group was significantly higher than the non-addict group in Scale Pd, Pa, Pt, Sc and Ma. This result indicates that the cellular phone addict group is likely to suffer from more serious pathological disorders than the non-addict group. The rate of addictive adolescents was significantly higher in the addict group than in the non-addict group in psychological problematic score ranges in Scale Sc (Schizophrenia) and Ma (Hypomania). The study result suggests that adolescents who addictively use a cellular phone will be more likely to show immaturity, instability, impulsive personality, excessive activities, and escapism.
