액정 소자의 열적 안전성에 관한 연구 (Study for thermal stability of Liquid Crystal Device)

  • In this study, we investigated about electrooptics characteristic of three kind of TN cell on the polyimide surface. Monodomain alignments of thermal stressed TN cell over temperature of liquid crystal isotropic phase were almost same that of no thermal stressed TN cells. However, the thermal stressed TN cell have many defects. Also, threshold voltage and response time of thermal stressed TN cells show same performances of no thermal stressed TN cells. There were little changes of value in these TN cells. However, transmittances of TN cells on the polyimide surface decrease with increasing thermal stress time. Finally, the residual DC voltage of the thermal stressed TN cell on the polyimide surface show decrease of characteristics as increasing thermal stress time. Therefore, thermal stability of TN cell was decreased by high thermal stress for the long times.

촉매분말법에 의한 PAFC용 다공성 전극제작 (Porous Electrode manufacture by catalyst powdering method for PAFC)

  • 인산형 연료전지에서 cathode 및 anode 전극의 반응 면적을 넓혀 전극성능을 향상시키고자 전극 촉매층에 가스 확산로를 도입하였다. 촉매층의 제작은 기체확산로로 이용하고자 제조된, 촉매가 담지되어 있지 않은 PTFE/carbon과 10w/o의 촉매가 담지된 Pt/carbon을 혼합 비율을 달리하면서 촉매 분말법으로 제작하였다. PTFE를 60w/o 담지한 PTFE(60 w/o)/carbon 분말과 Pt(10 w/o)/carbon분말을 7 : 3의 비율로 혼합하여 제조된 전극이 가장 우수한 성능을 보였다. 이들 조성을 변화시키면서 전극의 다공성과 전극성능을 비교 검토하여 본 결과 전극성능은 기체 확산로로 이용되는 macro pore와 전해질의 침투로 이용되는 micro pore 모두가 많이 형성됨에 따라 향상되었음을 알 수 있었다. 이때 전극에 담지된 백금 촉매의 양은 0.2mg/$\textrm{cm}^2$이었으며 PTFE함량은 42w/o이었다. 작동온도 15$0^{\circ}C$, 단자전압 0.7 V에서 전류밀도는 220 ㎃/$\textrm{cm}^2$이었다.

MgO를 이용한 다공성 탄소 섬유 제조 및 이를 이용한 연료전지용 촉매 특성 (Preparation of Porous Carbon Fiber by Using MgO Powder and Its Characteristics of Catalysts for Fuel Cell)

  • Nano-MgO와 메조페이스 피치로부터 복합 탄소섬유를 만들고 MgO를 제거함으로써 직접 메탄올 연료전지용 촉매 담지체로서의 다공성 탄소섬유를 제조하였다. 이 다공성 탄소섬유의 비표면적은 $8{\sim}58m^2/g$ 이고, 표면기공구조는 마이크로기공이 거의 없이 MgO 입자크기 유래의 메조기공(10~15 nm)으로 구성된 것이 특징이며, MgO 혼입량(1~10 wt%)에 따라 조절할 수 있었다. 본 다공성 탄소섬유를 담지체로 이용하여 함침법으로 60 wt% Pt-Ru 촉매를 담지하였으며, 제조된 Pt-Ru 촉매의 메탄올 산화 특성 및 단위전지 성능 측정 결과 상용촉매에 비하여 5~10% 이상 향상된 값을 나타내었다

  • A multi-cell test system with 25 independent cells is used to test different electrode materials simultaneously for polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs). Twenty-five segmented membrane electrode assemblies (MEAs) having the same or different Pt-loading are prepared to analyze the performance deviation of cells in the multi-cell test system. Improvements in the multi-cell test system are made by ensuring that the system performs voltage sensing for the cells individually and inserting optimum gaskets between the MEAs and the graphite plates. The cell performances are improved and their deviations are significantly decreased by these modifications. The performance deviations changed according to various cell configurations because the operating conditions of the cells, such as the gas flow and concentration, differed. This cell system can be used to test multiple electrodes simultaneously because it shows relatively uniform performance under the same conditions as well as linear correlation with various catalyst loadings.

  • Fuel cells are suitable for a power plant of a unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) as it is not only environmentally friendly and quiet but also more efficient than an internal combustion engine. A fuel cell hybrid UAV has better performance in endurance than a fuel cell only or battery only UAV. One of the key purposes of making fuel cell hybrid UAVs is having long endurance and now maximum 26 hours of flight is possible. Because optimal design and control methods for fuel cell hybrid UAVs are absolutely needed for their long endurance we have to check the methods. The aircraft made by using application-integrated design method has less BOP mass and better performances. The optimal design and control methods are generally based on computer simulations or Hardware-In-The-Loop simulations by using dynamic models for their design and control. The Hardware-In-The-Loop simulation (HILS) is to use a hardware device like a fuel cell stack as well as a simulation program and it allows for making optimally designed applications. This paper introduce efficient methods of design, control and evaluation for the fuel cell hybrid UAVs.

Reduction of Methanol Crossover in a Direct Methanol Fuel Cell by Using the Pt-Coated Electrolyte Membrane

  • A Pt-layer was deposited on the anode side of a Nafion membrane via a sputtering method in order to reduce methanol crossover in a direct methanol fuel cell (DMFC). The methanol permeation and the proton conductivity through the modified membranes were investigated. The performances of the direct methanol fuel cell were also tested using single cells with a Nafion membrane and the modified membranes. The Pt-layers on the membrane blocked both methanol crossover and proton transport through the membranes. Methanol permeability and proton conductivity decreased with an increase of the platinum layer thickness. At methanol concentration of 2 M, the DMFC employing the modified membrane with a platinum layer of 66 nm-thickness showed similar performance to that of a DMFC with a bare Nafion membrane in spite of the lower proton conductivity of the former. The maximum power density of the cell using the modified membrane with a platinum layer of 66 nm-thickness increased slightly while that of the cell with the bare membrane decreased abruptly when a methanol solution of 6M was supplied.

연료전지 자동차의 주행성능 예측을 위한 전기자동차 및 연료전지의 성능실험과 수학적 모델링 (Measurements and Numerical Analysis of Electric Cart and Fuel Cell to Estimate Operating Characteristic of FCEV)

  • In new generation vehicle technologies, a fuel cell vehicle becomes more important, by virtue of their emission merits. In addition, a fuel cell is considered as a major source to generate the electricity for vehicles in near future. This paper focuses on modeling of not only an electric vehicle and but also a fuel cell vehicle to estimate performances. And an EV cart is manufactured to verify the modeling. Speed, voltage, and current of the vehicle and modeling are compared to estimate them at acceleration test and driving mode test. The estimations are also compared with the data of the Ballard Nexa fuel cell stack. In order to investigate a fuel cell based vehicle, motor and fuel cell models are integrated in a electric vehicle model. The characteristics of individual components are also integrated. Calculated fuel cell equations show good agreements with test results. In the fuel cell vehicle simulation, maximum speed and hydrogen fuel consumption are estimated. Even though there is no experimental data from vehicle tests, the vehicle simulation showed physically-acceptable vehicle characteristics.

  • 연료전지는 우수한 도시가스 인프라로 안정적인 에너지공급이 가능하고, 연료 다변화가 가능한 신에너지 기술이다. 연료전지 상용화를 위해 시스템의 성능 및 신뢰성뿐만 아니라, 가격의 저감이 필수적이다. 소용량 건물용 연료전지시스템에서 가격비중이 매우 높은 보조기기의 가격저감 연구의 일환으로, 국내 제작된 블로워의 안전성능을 평가하고 개선방향을 모색하고자 하였다. 본 연구에서는 실제 연료전지시스템의 작동환경과 가장 유사한 환경에서 블로워의 성능 및 가혹조건 평가를 수행하였다. 블로워를 $70^{\circ}C$ 온도조건에서 장기 가동 시 유량성능, 기밀성능 및 열적거동의 상관관계를 파악하여, 블로워의 성능 저하에 영향을 미치는 모터열화, 다이어프램 재질 및 토출구 구조 등의 주요인자를 도출하였다.

고체산화물 연료전지의 전극과 스택운영의 기능적 분석 (Functional Analysis of Electrode and Small Stack Operation in Solid Oxide Fuel Cell)

  • This study amis to investigate the functional analysis of anode and cathode materials in Anode supported Solid Oxide Fuel Cell. The concentration polarization of single cell was investigated with CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) method for the case of the different morphology by using four types of unit cell and discussed to reduce the concentration polarization. The concentration polarization at anode side effected the voltage loss in Anode supported Solid Oxide Fuel Cell and increased contact areas between fuel gas and anode side could reduce the concentration polarization. For intermediate temperature operation, Anode-supported single cells with thin electrolyte layer of YSZ (Yttria-Stabilized Zirconia) were fabricated and short stacks were built and evaluated. We also developed diesel and methane autothermal reforming (ATR) reactors in order to provide fuels to SOFC stacks. Influences of the $H_2O/C$ (steam to carbon ratio), $O_2/C$ (oxygen to carbon ratio) and GHSV (Gas Hourly Space Velocity) on performances of stacks have been investigated. Performance of the stack operated with a diesel reformer was lower than with using hydrogen as a fuel due to lower Nernst voltage and carbon formation at anode side. The stack operated with a natural gas reformer showed similar performances as with using hydrogen. Effects of various reformer parameters such as $H_2O/C$ and $O_2/C$ were carefully investigated. It is found that $O_2/C$ is a sensitive parameter to control stack performance.

그린홈 보급확대를 위한 건물용 연료전지 보조기기의 성능 향상 (Performance improvement of BOP Components for 1kW Stationary Fuel Cell Systems to Promote Green-Home Dissemination Project)

  • According to green growth's policy, green-home dissemination's projects are promoting. Among them, stationary fuel cell systems are receiving attention due to high efficiency and clear energy. But it need absolutely to develop cost down technologies and improve system durability for commercialization of the fuel cell system. To achieve this objectives, in 2009, the Korean Government and "Korea Institute of Energy Technology Evaluation and Planning(KETEP)" launched into the strategic development project of BOP technology for practical applications and commercializations of stationary fuel cell systems, named "Technology Development on Cost Reduction of BOP Components for 1kW Stationary Fuel Cell Systems to Promote Green-Home Dissemination Project". This paper introduces a summary of improved BOP performances that has been achieved through the 2nd year development precesses(2010.06~2011.05) base on 1st year development precesses(2009.06~2010.05). The major elements for fuel cell systems are cathode air blowers, burner air blowers, preferential oxidation air blowers, fuel blowers, cooling water pumps, reformer water pumps, heat recovery pumps, mass flow meters, electrical valves, safety valves and a low-voltage inverter. Key targets of those elements are the reduction of cost, power consumption and noise. Invert's key targets are development the low -voltage technologies in order to reduce the number of unit cell in fuel cell system's stack.
