Environmental issue is one of the key factors to industry area using fossil fuels, because it accelerates the global warming. So it is supposed to reduce greenhouse gases around the developed nations of the world at times go. This issue is especially for the power industry. Under this background, MicroGrid system that consists of Distributed Energy Resources (DER) system, such as natural power system (wind, solar) and fuel-cell, co-generation, also known as CHP (Combined heat and power), has been developed greatly during the last 10 years. This paper adopts optimal model using GAMS to develop methods for conducting an integrated assessment of MicroGrid system.
Chimera grid Method is widely used in Computational Fluid Dynamics due to its simplicity in constructing grid system over complex bodies. Especially, Chimera grid method is suitable for unsteady flow computations with bodies in relative motions. However, interpolation procedure for ensuring continuity of solution over overlapped region fails when so-call orphan cells are present. We have adopted MLS(Moving Least Squares) method to replace commonly used linear interpolations in order to alleviate the difficulty associated with orphan cells. MSL is one of interpolation methods used in mesh-less methods. A number of examples with MLS are presented to show the validity and the accuracy of the method.

For two-dimensional grid electrodes immersed in plasmas, sheath expansion due to negative high-voltage pulse applied to the electrode generates high-energy pseudowave. The high-energy pseudowave can be used as ion beam for ion implantation. To estimate ion dose due to high-energy pseudowave, investigation on sheath expansion of grid electroes is necessary. To investigate sheath expansion, an analytic model was developed by Vlasov equation and applying the 1-D sheath expansion model to 2-D. Because of lack of generalized 2-D Child-Langmuir current, model cannot give solvable equation. Instead, for a given grid electrode geometry, the model found the relations between ion distribution functions, Child-Langmuir currents, and sheath expansions. With these relations and particle-in-cell (PIC) simulations, for given grid electrode geometry, computation time was greatly reduced for various conditions such as electrode voltages, plasma densities, and ion species. The model was examined by PIC simulations and experiments, and they well agreed.
This paper describes the grid-size dependency of the conventional Eulerian-Lagrangian method to spray characteristics such as spray penetration and SMD in modeling DME sprays. In addition, the reduction of the grid-size dependency of the present Gas-jet model was investigated. The calculations were performed using the KIVA code and the calculated results were compared to those of experimental result. The results showed that the conventional Eulerian-Laglangian model predicts shorter spray penetration for large cell because of inaccurate calculation of momentum exchange between liquid and gas phase. However, it was shown that the gas-jet model reduced grid-size dependency to spray penetration by calculating relative velocity between liquid and ambient gas based on gas jet velocity.
The numerical procedure has been developed for simulating incompressible viscous flow around a turbine stage with rotor-stator interaction. This study solves 2-D unsteady incompressible Navier-Stokes equations on a non-orthogonal curvilinear coordinate system. The Marker-and-Cell concept is applied to efficiently solve continuity equation. To impose an accurate boundary condition, O-H multiblocked grid system is generated. O-type grid and H-type grid is generated near and outer rotor-stator The cubic-spline interpolation is applied to handle a relative motion of a rotor to the stator. Turbulent flows have been modeled by the Baldwin- Lomax turbulent model. To validate present procedure, the time averaged pressure coefficients around the rotor and stator are compared with experiment and a good agreement obtained.

It is important to identify dynamic characteristics of nuclear fuel components. Since the fuel always exposed to turbulent flow, the dynamic contact between grids and rods is one of the fuel failure modes. The dynamic behavior of grids in nuclear fuels is quite complex, since two pairs of spring support are placed in the limited space. The strap in a cell has single spring and double dimples and this paper focuses on investigation of the grid strap(Test Fuel Strap, TFS) vibration in one cell. To identify the grid strap vibration, modal analysis of the strap is performed using Finite Element Method (FEM). Modal testing on a $5{\times}5$ grid structure without rods is performed. The modal testing results are compared to analytic results. In addition, random test considering rod effect is performed about a $5{\times}5$ grid with rods under real contact condition in the air. Finally, the strap vibration of a $5{\times}5$ fuel bundle in INvestigation of Flow INduced vIbraTion(INFINIT) facility is measured in real fluid velocity condition without heating. It is shown that modal frequencies from the test are almost equal to those peak frequencies in the INFINIT test.
A data stream is a massive unbounded sequence of data elements continuously generated at a rapid rate. Due to this reason, memory usage for data stream analysis should be confined finitely although new data elements are continuously generated in a data stream. To satisfy this requirement, data stream processing sacrifices the correctness of its analysis result by allowing some errors. The old distribution statistics are diminished by a predefined decay rate as time goes by, so that the effect of the obsolete information on the current result of clustering can be eliminated without maintaining any data element physically. This paper proposes a grid based clustering algorithm for a data stream. Given a set of initial grid cells, the dense range of a grid cell is recursively partitioned into a smaller cell based on the distribution statistics of data elements by a top down manner until the smallest cell, called a unit cell, is identified. Since only the distribution statistics of data elements are maintained by dynamically partitioned grid cells, the clusters of a data stream can be effectively found without maintaining the data elements physically. Furthermore, the memory usage of the proposed algorithm is adjusted adaptively to the size of confined memory space by flexibly resizing the size of a unit cell. As a result, the confined memory space can be fully utilized to generate the result of clustering as accurately as possible. The proposed algorithm is analyzed by a series of experiments to identify its various characteristics

Fuel cell (FC) distributed generation (DG) is gradually becoming more attractive to mainstream electricity users as capacity improves and costs decrease. New technologies including inverters are becoming available to provide a uniform standard interconnection of DGs with an electric power system. Some of the operating conflicts and the effect of DG on power quality are addressed and investigated through simulations on a real distribution network with an FC power plant. The results of these simulations have proved load tracking capability following the real and reactive power change of the load and have shown the flow of overcurrent from an FC power plant during the ground fault of a distribution line.
Three-dimensional steady incompressible laminar entry flows in a square duct of $90^{\circ}$ bend are numerically simulated by a new solution code(PowerCFD) using unstructured cell-centered method. Solutions are obtained with three unstructured grid types of hexahedron, prism and hybrid at a Reynolds number, based on the hydraulic diameter and bulk velocity, of 790. Interesting features of the flow are presented in detail. Detailed comparisons between the computed solutions and the available experimental data are given mainly for the velocity distributions at cross-sections in a $90^{\circ}$ bend of a square duct with fully-developed entry flows. It is found that the code is capable of producing the nature of laminar flow in curved square duct with no grid type dependency.
In order to reduce the excessive numerical dissipation which is induced when a grid system is not aligned with a discontinuity, a new spatial treatment of cell-interface fluxes is introduced. The M-AUSMPW+ in this paper has the formula that has an additional procedure of re-defining transferred properties at a cell-interface, based on AUSMPW+. The newly defined transferred property could eliminate numerical dissipation effectively in non-flow aligned grid system of multi-dimensional flows.
