Recently, bridge construction technology has made great progress from development of high performance materials and new bridge types. However, most technology are based on methods of cast-in-place and material cost saving. The method of cast-in-place concrete causes environmental damages and costumer complaints. Especially, under bad weather conditions, the construction can not proceed. To overcome these disadvantages, new construction methods were developed to reduce construction time. These methods are called precast method. Most prefabricated methods have been applied to superstructure constructions of bridges, but very minutely applied to substructure constructions. The most important agendas on precast method are light weight and transportability of the precasted members, because very strict transporting specifications exist for road transportation of the precasted members. For example, the weight and length of coping members may be larger than the available transporting vehicles. Although column is constructed by precast method to save construction time, if coping member is constructed by cast-in-place method, then the column construction time reduction becomes meaningless. Therefore, in this study, a new precast coping member and a connecting system of column-coping member are proposed. The proposed method is verified by analyzing their ultimate performance through analysis and experimental study.
Accidents are important causes of death and disability in children. They also have enormous financial implications. Young children become an victim of accidents easily because of their physical fragileness and their coping behavior being vulnerable to any actions taken by accidents. Once they have a accident, the children whose not fully developed, suffer from devastating long-term after-effects. Lee, Lee, Kang and Han(1995) reported that ninety percent of accidents can be prevented. But there is no national system to manage, evaluate and analyse the information about child accidents, even though it is necessary for accident prevention policies and health promotion of the general public. The purpose of the study was to determine how often children have accidents and define the accident prevention strategies in children. The investigator conducted a descriptive study by performing the surveys, interviews, and workshops for the 2,458 young children, 10 teachers, and 1,494 parents. The data collection for the study began on September 2000 and completed on April 20, 2001. The analysis of the data was done with Window SPSS 10.0 for descriptive statistics. Among those children, 1,298 children(52.8%) injured from accidents. The children who had accident answered that they injured from traffic accident(27.3%), inside the home(26.3%), on the playground(17.0%), during playtime(13.6%), in the school(5.9%) and food poisoning(7.1%). To define accident prevention strategies for the school children, the parents and the teachers who had a special interest in this topic formed a special task force under the guidance of the investigator. The team was charged to prepare the basis of content materials by identifying the problems, setting standards for the program, prioritizing the process, and selecting the methods of implementation and evaluation. Eight issues and concerns identified by the team were: 1)allowing young children to learn undesirable habits and behaviors that would bother others without knowing; 2) not guarding young children from car accident; 3)unattended accident at playground; 4) considering home places safe; 5)unattended accident at school. These issues were found to be coinciding with the actual child accident cases occurred recent years in Korea. Greater efforts are required to reduce unnecessary deaths and disability from childhood accidents. This study gave a very useful and important data to prepare accident prevention educational program and to prepare accident prevention strategies.
Depression is a common, serious, and recurring mental disorder. The pathogenesis of depression involves many factors such as environmental factor, genetic factor and alteration of structure and function in neurobiological systems. Increasing evidence supports that epigenetic alteration may be associated with depression. The epigenetics is explained as the mechanisms by which environmental factor causes changes in chromatin structure and alters gene expression without changing DNA base sequence. DNA methylation and histone modification involving histone acetylation and methylation are the main epigenetic mechanisms. Animal studies have shown that stressful environment such as early life stress can leave persistent epigenetic marks in the genome, which alter gene expression and influence neural and behavioral function through adulthood. A potentially important gene in depression is brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF). BDNF plays a central role in depression and antidepressant action. In studies of the rodent, exposure to stress at prenatal, postnatal, and adult stages alters BDNF expression through histone modification and DNA methylation of the BDNF gene which results in anxiety and depressive-like behavior. This review discusses recent advances in the study of the epigenetic mechanisms that contribute to depression, particularly histone modification and DNA methylation of the BDNF gene, that may help in the development of new targets for depression treatment.
The expansion joints installed on the bridge for the accommodation of expansion and contraction of the supper structure are essential members of the bridge. However, the expansion joints are deteriorated over time and the waterproof function weakens, causing rainwater to penetrate and deteriorate the structure. In order to solve the traffic congestion caused by frequent replacement of the old expansion joints along with the deterioration of the structure, a post-integrated abutment bridge in which the existing expansion joints are removed and replaced with reinforced concrete link connection has been applied to highway bridges since 2016. After the post-integrated abutment method was applied, it was partially applied to bridges in which the superstructure and abutment were jammed. In this study, the causes of problems that may occur when the post-integrated abutment method is applied to the jammed bridge were analyzed numerically. It was analyzed that damage occurred in the link connection part. Based on the results of this study, the application condition for the post-integrated abutment method is reinforced as it is not possible to apply the post-integrated abutment method to bridges are already jammed.

Circulating fluidized bed system consists of SEWGS reactor - lower loop seal - regeneration reactor - riser - cyclone - upper loop seal has been used for solid circulation between the SEWGS reactor and the regeneration reactor in a SEWGS system for pre-combustion $CO_2$ capture. A vertical type lower loop seal has been used in current system but this lower loop seal requires high gas flow rate through the lower loop seal for fluidization and smooth solid circulation, and consequently, causes slugging behavior sometimes. To overcome these disadvantages, inclined type lower loop seal was proposed by this study. Solid circulation characteristics with change of lower loop seal geometry were measured and compared in a bubbling - bubbling - riser type circulating fluidized bed using $CO_2$ absorbent (P-78) as bed material at ambient temperature and pressure. We could conclude that the inclined lower loop seal is better than the vertical type lower loop seal from the viewpoints of minimum flow rate requirement for stable solid circulation and solid height change during solid circulation.

The use of the othotropic steel deck is steadily increased due to the advance of the technology in the steel bridges which recently have been longer. But the othotropic steel deck bridge is the structure that is very fragile to the fatigue, especially, the fatigue crack at the cross of the longitudinal rib and transversal rib is one of the biggest problems that othotropic steel deck bridges have. The causes of these fatigue cracks come from the secondary stress on out-plane behavior of transversal rib. In this study, we conducted the experiment to find the optimal details to improve fatigue strength on intersection between longitudinal rib and transversal rib in the othotropic steel deck bridge through numerical analysis using the experiment of the fatigue in the 3-dimensional real structure and program LUSAS. As a result of study, it is showed that the details of the korean standard section attached with a curved bulkhead plate is the most profitable. And, it is indicated that the stress which is generated when the reform improved section by parametic study can be reduced by about 50% at most or more. Along with the reduced stress and the longer interval between transversal ribs(G=400), the decreased steel amount by 4% and the shortened welding length by 34% make it possible to produce the othotropic steel deck bridge which is strong against fatigue.
Curved squeal noise may result when railway vehicles run on curved tracks. Contact between the wheels and the rails causes a stick-slip phenomenon, which generates squeal noise. In order to identify the mechanism of the squeal noise systematically, a scaled test rig has been fabricated. Knowledge of the contact forces between the wheels and the rail rollers is essential for investigating the squeal noise characteristics; however, it is difficult to measure there contact force. In this study, contact forces have been calculated indirectly according to the modal behavior of the subframe that supports the rail roller and the responses at specific positions of that subframe. In order to verify the estimated contact forces, the displacements at the contact points between the wheels and rail rollers have been calculated from the estimated forces; the resulting values have been compared with the measured displacement values. The SPL at the specific location has been calculated using the estimated contact forces and this also has been compared with the SPL, measured in a semi-anechoic chamber. The comparisons in displacements and SPLs show good correlation.

High frequency squeal noise can be generated when a railroad vehicle runs a sharp curved section; this noise causes environmental complaints and excessive wear on the wheel and the railroad track. In this paper, curved squeal noise experiments on a commercial railway were carried out to investigate this phenomenon. The relationship of the squeal noise pressure level, the frequency characteristics, the railway running speed, and the modal behavior of the wheel were investigated. At the same time, the lateral motion of the wheel relative to the rail was captured using a video camera; wheel movement was calculated when the noise was generated. queal noise occurred at the highest level at the inner front wheel; this phenomena is considered to be related to the lateral vibration response characteristics of the wheel. It can be seen that the magnitude of this squeal noise is not directly related to the increase in vehicle speed.
The purpose of this study is to explain experiences of non-music majors to changing their majors into music therapy and to provide the preliminary study for deriving a grounded theory. For that, in-depth interviews were performed targeting 5 students who did not major in music in their undergraduate courses selected from the graduate students who are majoring in music therapy at the colleges located in Seoul. Data was analyzed for the study by applying the modified grounded theory. The result of study showed that they selected the course of music therapy career as they were motivated by the realistic demand for future employment, career potentials and other realistic causes. These factors caused them to study the surrounding situations and conduct the detailed research on the possibility of music therapy. These factors were also dependent on the individual characteristics, external elements and music background. These experiences were connected to the self-integration and pursuit of growth by newly setting their relation to the 'Music Child'. In addition, the demand of being the meaningful existence in relationship also affected them to more specify their aspirations in the progress of career selection on a continual basis. This study is meaningful as it provides the actual information on them.
With the recent development of various kinds of virtual reality devices, there has been an active research effort to increase the sense of reality by recognizing the physical behavior of users rather than by classical user input methods. Among such devices, the Leap Motion controller recognizes the user's hand gestures and can realistically trace the user's hand in a virtual reality environment. However, manipulating an object in virtual reality using a recognized user's hand often causes the hand to pass through the object, which should not occur in the real world. This study presents a way to build a visual feedback system for enhancing the user's sense of interaction between hands and objects in virtual reality. In virtual reality, the user's hands are examined precisely by using a ray tracing method to see if the virtual object collides with the user's hand, and when any collision occurs, visual feedback is given through the process of reconstructing the user's hand by moving the position of the end of the user's fingers that enter the object through sign distance field and reverse mechanics. This enables realistic interaction in virtual reality in real time.
