  • This paper estimates line constants of equivalent five-conductors model using the reduced equivalent method. Actually, the catenary system is considered by the equivalent five-conductors model in the electrical aspect. Therefore, we should compose the catenary system of the equivalent five-conductors model, then the line constants of this equivalent five-conductors model are calculated. This paper shows the reducing process about the real system of the field by using the proposed theory. Also the line constants of reduced system are provided in this paper.

  • The dynamic properties between catenary and pantograph of high-speed train are very important factors to affect the stable electric power supply. So as to design the reliable current collection system, a multibody simulation model is needed. In this paper, the dynamic analysis method for a pantograph-catenary cable system of high-speed train is presented. The very deformable motion of a catenary cable is demonstrated using nonlinear continuous beam theory, which is based on an absolute nodal coordinate formulation, and the pantograph is modeled as a rigid multibody. The proposed method might be very efficient, because this method can present the nonlinear properties of a flexible catenary cable and set a various boundary conditions.

  • Generally, an autotransformer(AT) feeding system consists of double tracks, up and down, with the trolley wire and feeder wire of the up and down tracks connected in the sectioning post(SP). Consequently, load current or fault current flows on two tracks based on catenary impedance characteristics, making it difficult to estimate catenary impedance accurately. This paper presents a technique for the estimation of catenary impedance using boosting current compensation based on the current division characteristics of an AT feeding system to improve the operation performance of impedance relay. To verify the technique, we model an AT feeding system through a power analysis program (PSCAD/EMTDC) and simulate various operation and fault conditions. Through the simulation, we confirmed that the proposed technique has estimated catenary impedance with a similar degree of accuracy to the actual catenary impedance

  • Ties are mandated by many design guidelines and codes to prevent the progressive collapse of buildings initiated by local failures. This study develops a model to estimate catenary/cable action capacity and the required ties in continuous reinforced concrete beams to bridge above the potential failed interior columns. The developed model is derived based on virtual work method and verified using test results presented in the literature. Also, parametric investigations are conducted to estimate the required ties in continuous reinforced concrete beams supporting one-way slab systems. A comparison is conducted between the estimated tie reinforcement using the developed model and that provided by satisfying the integrity provisions of the ACI 318-14 (2014) code. It is shown that the required tie reinforcements to prevent progressive collapse using the developed model are obviously larger than that provided by the integrity requirements of the ACI 318-14 (2014) code. It has been demonstrated that the increases in the demanded tie reinforcements over that provided by satisfying ACI 318-14 (2014) integrity provisions are varied between 1.01 and 1.46.

  • Dynamic characteristics of pantograph-catenary system that supplies electrical power to high-speed trains are investigated. A simple catenary is composed of the contact and messenger wires connected by hamgers possessing bi-directional stiffness properties. The influences of parameters that determine the contact properties of pantograph-catenary system are investigated through numerical simulations. For the catenary, a finite difference model composed of 10 spans is constructed. The contact and messenger wires are modeled as strings with respective tension and damping ratio values. The pantograph is modeled as a linear 3-degree-of-freedom system. It is found that the tension, number of hangers and damping ratios as well as the speed of the train significantly influence the contact forces and contact separation rate

  • Line constants of the catenary system are estimated. The harmonic current that the Korean Train Express (KTX) injects into the catenary is measured to precisely analyze the harmonic effects. The Korean high-speed railway system is modeled by estimated and measured results. The system model is applied for predicting the harmonic effects. The simulation results from the system model are compared to field test data concerning the total harmonic distortion (THD). The reliability of the system model is verified.

  • The cable installed will have catenary's type that is nonlinear and variable time system. Because it has a close relation to the catenary's type to determine command value of tension for the tension control of this cable, we need to study it. The purpose of this study is automated the installation equipment (or a catenary's cable. This study shows control system that the tension of a catenary's cable is keep constant. 'rho control method is adopted the fuzzy control that is robust because the model of a control object is nonlinear and variable time system and feed-forward control to suppress overshoot as a shift begins to move. On the basis of the dynamic modeling of a catenary's cable we compose the control system with adopting fuzzy and feed-forward control has recognized the effectiveness in simulation results.

  • The purpose of this study was to model and design a concrete catenary shell using a modern computer program without performing experiments. The modeling idea stems from the study by Pendergrast, but he listed supplementary items that should be improved in his paper. This study aims to resolve those issues and overcome the drawbacks of the study by Pendergrast. The process of experiment for the design of a catenary shell was reproduced by Grasshopper script. In order to ensure credibility, two models designed from the Grasshopper script were analyzed using a finite element program, SAP2000; one is a square-based catenary shell and the other is a special catenary shell called as the Naturtheater $Gr{\ddot{o}}tzingen$ shell, which was completed in 1977. First, the developed modeling approach was proved to be reasonable from the analysis of the square-based shell. The reliability was further confirmed by a comparison between the current and previous analysis results for the Naturtheater $Gr{\ddot{o}}tzingen$ shell.

  • In this study, a simulation model to estimate the current-collection performance of a high-speed train was developed by using a commercial finite element analysis software, SAMCEF. A three-dimensional springDdamperDmass model of a pantograph was created, and its reliability was validated by comparing the receptance of the model to that of the actual pantograph. The wave propagation speed of the catenary model was compared with the analytical wave propagation speed of the catenary system presented in the UIC 799 OR standard. The length of the droppers was controlled, and the pre-sag of the contact wire due to gravity was considered. The catenary and the pantograph were connected by using a contact element, and the contact force variation when the pantograph was moved at velocities of 300 km/h and 370 km/h was obtained. The average, standard deviation, maximum, and minimum values of the contact force were analyzed, and the effectiveness of the developed simulation model was examined.
