  • Catalytic performance for NOx removal by Ga-incorporated silicates(Ga-silicate; Gallosilicate) with MFI type synthesized by the rapid crystallization method was reported in this study. NOx removal was investigated under the condition of O2 excess(10%), with various hydrocarbons of low concentrations. Effect of H2O(2%) addition was also considered. The result showd that the conversion from NOx to N2 was enhanced on the Ga-silicate compared with the Al-silicate. Furthermore, the performance for NOx conversion on the Ga-silicate increased with addition of water.

  • A novel copper nanoparticles were synthesized from cupric sulfate using hydrazine as reducing reagents. A series of aromatic nitro compounds were reacted with sodium borohydride in the presence of the copper nanoparticles catalysts to afford the aromatic amino compounds in high yields. Additionally, the catalysts system can be recycled and maintain a high catalytic effect in the reduction of aromatic nitro compounds.

  • An experimental investigation has been performed on the steady flow in exhaust system. When individual flow coming from exhaust manifold entered UCC, the inlet conditions at entry to the diffuser in UCC were affected by the upstream pipe and manifold works. But those effects of the inlet condition on flow through monolith are negligible because the flows are concentrated on the center of monolith regardless of inlet flow distribution. To improve the flow distribution, we installed the cone type circular ring in diffuser of UCC. This led to increasement of flow uniformity, but there was minor increment of pressure drop.

  • The exhaust gas from vehicle engines and industrial boilers contains considerable amount of harmful nitrogen monoxide(NO) which causes air pollusion and acid rain. To remove NO catalytic reduction processes using Cu ion exchanged ZSM-5 zeolite have been widely studied. In this study, an attempt was made to fabricate Cu/zeolite catalyst by using high energy ball mill. The catalytic performance of ball milled Cu/ZSM-5 zeolites is analyzed and optimum copper contents was determined. The processing variables were reaction temperature and copper contents. Complete removal of NO gas was obtained at the temperature of 553 K on 10wt.% CU/ZSM-5 mechanically alloyed composite powders. Mechanically alloyed CU/ZSM-5 catalyst showed homogeneous distribution of Cu in ZSM-5.

  • Some properties of $\beta$-1, 3-glucan synthase system in Saccharamyces cerevisiae were investigated. By extraction with detergent and salt, the membrane preparations could be dissociated into two components, one soluble, the other still membrane bound. Both components, in addition to GTP, were necessary for the activity of $\beta$-1, 3-glucan synthase like other fungi. The protective effect of guanosine nucleotides on the soluble factor pointed to the possibility that this fraction contained a GTP-binding protein. Addition of increasing amounts of soluble factor to a constant amount of insoluble catalytic factor, vice versa, gave rise to a saturation curve. These results, including different types of evidence, indicate that the soluble factor and the catalytic factor form a complex.

  • The dehydrogenation of ethylbenzene with carbon dioxide has been carried out over ZSM-5 zeolite-supported iron oxide catalyst as well as commercial catalyst (K-Fe2O3) and unsupported iron oxide (Fe3O4) for comparison. In the dehydrogenation over the ZSM-5 zeolite-supported iron oxide catalyst, ethylbenzene is predominantly converted to styrene by an oxidative pathway in the presence of excess carbon dioxide. Carbon dioxide in this reaction is found to play a role as an oxidant for promoting catalytic activity as well as coke resistance of catalyst. On the other hand, both of commercial catalyst and unsupported Fe2O4 exhibit considerable decrease in catalytic activity under the same condition. It is suggested that an active phase for the dehydrogenation with carbon dioxide over ZSM-5 zeolite-supported iron oxide catalyst would be rather a reduced and isolated magnetite (Fe3O4)-like phase having oxygen deficiency in the zeolite matrix.

  • The commercialization of rechargeable metal-air batteries is extremely desirable but designing stable oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) catalysts with non-noble metal still has faced challenges to replace platinum-based catalysts. The nonnoble metal catalysts for ORR were prepared to improve the catalytic performance and stability by the thermal decomposition of ZIF-8 with optimum cobalt loading. The porous carbon was obtained by the calcination of ZIF-8 and different loading amounts of Co nanoparticles were anchored onto porous carbon forming a Co/PC catalyst. Co/PC composite shows a significant increase in the ORR value of current and stability (500 h) due to the good electronic conductive PCN support and optimum cobalt metal loading. The significantly improved catalytic performance is ascribed to the chemical structure, synergistic effects, porous carbon networks, and rich active sites. This method develops a new pathway for a highly active and advantageous catalyst for electrochemical devices.

  • The synthesis of pyrrolidone-N-sulfonyl chloride has been carried out by the reaction of pyrrolidone with sulfuryl chloride in benzene. It was attempted to study the catalytic effect of pyrroldone-N-sulfonyl chloride as an initiator for anionic polymerization of pyrrolidone. It was found that as a concentration of initiator decreased, inherent viscosity of the resulting polymer increased up to 1.8 dl/g. The highest rate of polymerization and equilibrium conversion was observed when mole ratio of PNSC to KOH was 0.25. In general, the observed value of polymerization and equilibrium conversion in circumstances using PNSC/KOH catalysis system were higher than using $CO_2$/KOH catalysis system.

  • V2O5/TiO2-ZrO2 catalyst modified with V2O5 was prepared by adding Ti(OH)4-Zr(OH)4 powder into an aqueous solution of ammonium metavanadate followed by drying and calcining at high temperatures. The characterization of prepared catalysts was performed using XRD, DSC, solid-state 51V NMR, and FTIR. In the case of calcination temperature of 500 oC, for the catalysts containing low loading V2O5 below 25 wt % vanadium oxide was in a highly dispersed state, while for catalysts containing high loading V2O5 equal to or above 25 wt % vanadium oxide was well crystallized due to the V2O5 loading exceeding the formation of monolayer on the surface of TiO2-ZrO2. The strong acid sites were formed through the bonding between dispersed V2O5 and TiO2-ZrO2. The larger the dispersed V2O5 amount, the higher both the acidity and catalytic activities for acid catalysis.

  • The treatment of piggery wastes was carried out at pilot scale using a multilayered metal-activated carbon system followed by carbon bed filtration. The physicochemical properties were obtained from treated samples with aqueous solutions containing metallic ions such as $Ag^+$, $Cu^{2+}$, $Na^+$, $K^+$ and $Mn^{2+}$, which main obsevations are subjected to inspect surface properties, color removal properties by Uv/Vis and EDX. Multilayered metal-activated carbons were contacted with waste water to investigation of the simultaneous catalytic effect for the COD, BOD, T-N and T-P removal. The removal results for the piggery waste using multilayered metal-activated carbon bed was achieved the satisfactory removal performance under permitted values of Ministry of Environment of Korea. The high efficiency of the multilayered metal-activated carbon bed was determined by the performance of this material for trapping, catalytic effect and adsorption of organic solid particles.
