온라인목록 사용자 인터페이스에 관한 연구 : 탐색실패요인을 중심으로 (A Log Analysis Study of an Online Catalog User Interface)

  • 본 연구는 덕성여자대학교의 온라인목록시스템 사용자 인터페이스인 DISCOVER Web2.0의 이용실태를 분석하였다. 1999년 11월 한 달간의 Log Transaction File을 분석하여 이용자들이 선호하는 탐색의 접근점, 탐색의 접근점 별 사용율, 탐색의 접근점 별 성공률, 탐색 성공에 영향을 미치는 요인 등을 살펴보았다. 외국 대학의 온라인목록의 경우 가장 선호되는 탐색의 접근점은 주제명으로 나타났으나 본 연구에서는 서명(59.2%)으로 밝혀졌다. 가장 덜 선호되는 탐색의 접근점은 저자필드로 11.6%를 차지하였다. 또한 키워드 사용은 극히 저조하여 전체 접근점의 약 16%에 불과하였다. 탐색실패율은 평균 13.9%이며, 주제필드에서의 탐색실패율이 19.8%로 가장 높고 저자필드에서의 탐색실패율은 10.9%로 가장 낮았다.

A catalog of infrared supernova remnants in the Large Magellanic Cloud

  • We present a catalog of infrared supernova remnants (SNRs) in the Large Magellanic Cloud (LMC). We have searched the Spitzer archival data for infrared counterparts to all 45 known SNRs in the LMC, and identified 21 which is 47% of the known SNRs. Seven of them are newly detected: SNR 0450-70.9, SNR in N4, N103B, DEM L241, DEM L249, DEM L316A, and DEM L316B. All newly discovered SNRs show emission at several IRAC 3.4, 4.5, 5.8, and 8.0 micron bands and/or MIPS 24 and 70 micron bands. Most SNRs show shell structures. We derive infrared fluxes of these newly detected SNRs. The catalog contains general information of each SNR such as location, age, and SN type together with AKARI and/or Spitzer fluxes. For the entire SNR sample, we examine their infrared colors and the possible correlation of the infrared fluxes with the fluxes at other wavelengths. For the newly detected SNRs except the SNR in N4, we also performed follow-up imaging observations of [Fe II] 1.644 micron line using IRIS2 mounted on the Anglo Australian Telescope. Three out of six SNRs show [Fe II] emission corresponding to their infrared shells. [Fe II] knots are also detected in N103B which show good spatial correlation to infrared emission seen at Spitzer images as well as knotty $H{\alpha}$ emission. We investigate the characteristics and origin of the infrared emission in individual SNRs, and discuss the environmental and evolutionary effects.

  • 21세기 지식사회에서 도서관은 향후 새로운 웹 관련 신기술을 활용함으로써 OPAC의 재설계 및 기능적인 성능개선 방안을 모색할 필요가 있다. 본 연구에서는 Web 2.0. Library 2.0 및 OPAC 2.0에 관한 정의 및 개념, 관련 웹 기술, 그리고 국내외 웹 포털 및 도서관 적용사례를 조사 분석하였다. 이를 통하여 본 연구에서는 OPAC 검색결과 및 검색서비스의 향상을 위한 차세대 OPAC 2.0 서비스에 적용할 수 있는 하나의 방법으로써 Open API 및 RSS 리더를 구현하고 구체적인 활용방안을 제시하였다.

Study of galaxies in extensive area of the Virgo cluster

  • Nearby galaxy clusters and their surrounding regions represent the current endpoint of evolution galaxy cluster evolution. We present a new catalog of 1589 galaxies, what we call Extended Virgo Cluster Catalog (EVCC), in wider area of the Virgo cluster based on the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) Data Release 7. The EVCC covers an area 5.2 times larger than the footprint of the classical Virgo Cluster Catalog, and reaches out to 3.5 times the virial radius of the Virgo cluster. The EVCC contains fundamental information such as membership, morphology, and photometric parameters of galaxies. The EVCC defines a comprehensive galaxy sample covering a wider range in galaxy density that is significantly different from the inner region of the Virgo cluster. It will be the foundation for forthcoming galaxy evolution studies in the extended Virgo cluster region, complementing ongoing and planned Virgo cluster surveys at various wavelengths. We also present the large scale structures in the field around the Virgo cluster. We identified seven galaxy filaments and one possible sheet in three dimensions of super-galactic coordinates based on the HyperLEDA database. By examining spatial distribution and Hubble diagram of galaxies, we found that six filaments are directly associated with the main body of the Virgo cluster. On the other hand, one filament and one sheet are structures located at background of the main body of Virgo cluster. The EVCC and the filament structures will be the foundation for forthcoming studies of galaxy evolution in various environments as well as buildup of the galaxy cluster at z ~ 0, complementing ongoing and planned Virgo cluster surveys at various wavelengths.

A PHOTOMETRIC STUDY ON THE FORMATION OF THE EARLY TYPE GALAXIES IN NEARBY GALAXY CLUSTERS

  • We present a photometric study of galaxies in the central regions of six nearby galaxy clusters at redshift z=0.0231${\~}$0.0951. We have derived BVI photometry of the galaxies from the CCD images obtained at the Bohyunsan Optical Astronomical Observatory (BOAO) in Korea, and JHKs photometry of the bright galaxies from the 2MASS extended source catalog. Comparing the galaxy photometry results with the simple stellar population model of Bruzual & Charlot (2003) in the optical & NIR color-color diagrams, we have estimated the ages and metallicities of early type galaxies. We have found that the observed galaxies had recent star-formation mostly 5 ${\~}$ 7 Gyrs ago but the spread in age estimation is rather large. The average metallicities are [Fe/H]=0.l${\~}$0.5 dex. These results support the hypothesis that large early type galaxies in clusters are formed via hierarchical merging of smaller galaxies.

A Deep Optical Survey of Young Stars in the Carina Nebula. I. UBVRI Photometric Data and Fundamental Parameters

  • We present the deep homogeneous UBV RI photometric data of 135,071 stars down to V ~ 23 mag and I ~ 22 mag toward the Carina Nebula. These stars are cross-matched with those from the previous surveys in the X-ray, near-infrared, and mid-infrared wavelengths as well as the Gaia Early Data Release 3 (EDR3). This master catalog allows us to select reliable members and determine the fundamental parameters distance, size, stellar density of stellar clusters in this star-forming region. We revisit the reddening toward the nebula using the optical and the near-infrared colors of early-type stars. The foreground reddening [E(B-V)fg] is determined to be 0.35 ± 0.02, and it seems to follow the standard reddening law. On the other hand, the total-to-selective extinction ratio of the intracluster medium (RV,cl) decreases from the central region (Trumpler 14 and 16, RV,cl ~ 4.5) to the northern region (Trumpler 15, RV,cl ~ 3.4). It implies that the central region is more dusty than the northern region. We find that the distance modulus of the Carina Nebula to be 11.9 ± 0.3 mag (d = 2.4 ± 0.35 kpc) using a zero-age main-sequence fitting method, which is in good agreement with that derived from the Gaia EDR3 parallaxes. We also present the catalog of 3,331 pre-main-sequence (PMS) members and 14,974 PMS candidates down to V ~ 22 mag based on spectrophotometric properties of young stars at infrared, optical, and X-ray wavelengths. From the spatial distribution of PMS members and PMS candidates, we confirm that the member selection is very reliable down to faint stars. Our data will have a legacy value for follow-up studies with different scientific purposes.

MORPHOLOGY OF LOCAL GALAXIES FROM SDSS

  • We prepare a catalog of the morphological types of 5840 galaxies within z = 0.01. We determine the morphological types by visual inspection using color images from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) DR7. The majority of the sample galaxies are SDSS spectroscopic target galaxies, but we add ~ 900 galaxies whose redshifts are available in the NASA Extra Galactic Database (NED). The fraction of elliptical and lenticular galaxies is ~ 0.06 while spiral galaxies comprise ~ 30% of the sample with a bar fraction of ~ 0.6. About half of sample are dwarf galaxies of which ~ 35% are dwarf elliptical-like galaxies. There is a strong correlation between the morphological types and luminosities of the galaxies, i.e., high luminosities in the early type galaxies and low luminosity in the late type galaxies. The mean luminosity of dwarf elliptical-like galaxies is similar to that of irregular galaxies.

  • This paper is a study of the system of liberal great books selection in universities of Korea. A questionnaire consisted of 14 questions was sent to 46 universities of which 42 universities responded. Results of the study can be summarized as follows: 1) Liberal great books selection system was operated 40% of universities, but 60% was not operated because of not preparation and without perception of necessity. 2) The name of liberal great books was varied in 11 kinds of 16 universities. It is desirable that the name is unified. 3) The founded year of liberal great books selection system was new comparatively with enhanced liberal education. 4) The greater part of liberal great books format were a leaf of catalog, but it is desirable that book form catalog with review for induction of reading interests. 5) It is desirable that renewal of liberal great books are irregularly in answer to a need. 6) It is a n.0, ppeared that selection of liberal great books were by professor, but it is desirable that selection is by many people of all parts without prejudices and subjectivity. 7) The title of liberal great books were 121 titles in average. It is desirable that the titles are about 100 titles for expected results. 8) In a duplicates of liberal great books, 5 copy is much more than other cases. It is desirable that the duplicates depend on students, use rates, budget etc. of universities. 9) Use rates of liberal great books are much more than other books, but it is necessary that public relations and stimulation of reading for most use. 10) In subject analysis, liberal great books consisted of humanities, social sciences and novel mainly. Specially, literature is 33% of the total. 11) Liberal great books consisted of occidental works and literature mainly. 12) It is a n.0, ppeared that analysis of a n.0, ppointment frequency was scattered exceedingly.

The Key role of the Bulge Compactness in Star-forming Activity in Late-type Galaxies

  • Which mechanism governs star-formation activity in galaxies is still one of the most important, open questions in galactic astronomy. To address this issue, we investigate the specific star formation rate (sSFR) of late-type galaxies as functions of various structural parameters including the morphology, mass, radius, and mass compactness (MC). We use a sample of ~200,000 late-type galaxies with z = 0.02 ~ 0.2 from SDSS DR7 and a catalog of bulge-disk decomposition (Simard et al. 2011; Mendel et al. 2013). We find a remarkably strong correlation between bulge's MC and galaxy's sSFR, in the sense that galaxies with more compact bulge tend to be of lower sSFR. This seems counter-intuitive given that galactic sSFR is driven predominantly by disks rather than bulges and suggests that the central mass density plays a key role in recent star-forming activity. We discuss the physical cause of the new findings in terms of the bulge growth history and AGN activities.

DISTANCES OF GLOBULAR CLUSTERS BASED ON HIPPARCOS PARALLAXES OF NEARBY SUBDWARFS

  • In the present study we have determined the distance moduli for seven globular clusters M2, M3, Ml0, M12, NGC 2808, NGC 6229, and NGC 6752, whose metallicities are in the range -1.54 < [Fe/H] < -1.10. We have derived distances for them by the main-sequence fitting method using a sample of local subdwarfs, whose accurate parallaxes are taken from the Hipparcos Catalog. The derived distance moduli are 15.52 for M2, 14.98 for M3, 14.23 for Ml0, 14.03 for M12, 15.56 for NGC 2808, 17.34 for NGC 6229, and 13.29 for NGC 6752.
