  • The methanol extract of leaves of Bruguiera gymnorrhiza (L.) Lam. (Rhizophoraceae) was screened for its antinociceptive and antidiarrhoeal activities. The extract produced significant inhibition in acetic acid-induced writhing in mice at dose of 250 and 500 mg/kg body weight (P < 0.001), comparable to the standard drug diclofenac sodium at the dose of 25 mg/kg of body weight (P < 0.001). When tested for its antidiarrhoeal effects on castor oil-induced diarrhea in mice, it increased mean latent period (P < 0.02) and decreased the frequency of defecation (P < 0.01) significantly at the dose of 500 mg/kg body weight, comparable to the standard drug loperamide at the dose of 50 mg/kg of body weight. The overall results tend to suggest the antinociceptive and antidiarrhoeal activities of the extract.

  • 1, 3-Di(2-dodecanoylaminoethyl)-2, 7-dioxy-1, 3, 6, 8-tetraazacyclodecane[DDTD] and sorbitan monostearate(SMS) were synthesized as a main component for softner. O/W type softner(DSA) was prepared by blending of DSA, SMS, polyoxyethylene(10) castor oil, glyceryl monooleate, and polyoxyethylene(7) stearyl ether. After treatment of DSA to all cotton fabrics, the physical properties such as tear strength, crease recovery, and flexing abrasion resistance were measured. As a result of the measurement, DSA was found to be durable softner with good softness.

  • 1, 3-Di(dodecanoyl)-2, 7-dioxy-6, 8-di(2-hydroxyethyl)-1, 3, 6, 8-tetraazacyclodecane(DDDT) and pentaerythritol monostearate(PMS) were synthesized as a main component for softner. O/W type softner(DPSA) was prepared by blending DDDT and PMS with polyoxyethylene(10) castor oil, polyoxyethylene(20) oleyl ether, and polyoxyethylene(10) monolaurate. After treatment of DPSA to all cotton fabrics, the physical properties such as tear strength, crease recovery, and flexing abrasion resistance were measured. As a result of the measurement, DPSA was proved to be durable softner with good softness.

  • In order to investigate the efficacy of Siljangsan by using the experimental animals, the action of gastric juice secretion, antiulcer. transport rates in the intestine and anti-cathartic action were studied. The following results were obtained. 1. Preventive effects on ulcer induced by pylorus-ligated and Ethanol-HCI were recognized 2. Suppression effects on gastric juice secretinon, free of acidity and total acidity were recognized, but pepsin output was not recognized. 3. For the transport ability of intestine of mice, the ability of small intestine was activated and large intestine was suppressed in the group administrated 4. Anti-cathatic action of mice induced by castor oil was recognized. According to above results, effect based on oriental medical reference was consistent with the actual experimental effect.

  • Chandanasav is an Ayurvedic preparation slightly reduced the gastrointestinal motility at the 15 min time interval. It increased the latent period of castor oil induced diarrhoea, slightly decreased number of stool count and lowered the purging index values. Chandanasav significantly reduced the onset and increased the duration of pentobarbital induced sleeping time. No significant analgesic effect was observed from the hot plate study Thus it may have mild constipating and central nervous system depressant activity without any effect on peripheral nervous system.

  • Novel surfactants have been synthesized by catalytic chloropropoxylation reaction of carboxylic acid fractions of sunflower, olive, cottonseed, soya-bean, castor and corn oils with 2-(chloromethyl)oxirane. Colloidal-chemical parameters as well as petroleum-collecting and petroleum-dispersing capacities of the synthesized chloropropoxylate esters having heterochain of various lengths have been determined. Influence of carboxylic acid fractions composition and length of chloroxypropylene chain on petroleum-collecting and dispersing capacities has been revealed.

  • Bio-based polyester polyols were synthesized using esterification with azelaic acid, sebacic acid, and 1,3-propanediol. Polyurethanes were prepared using chain extenders (1,4-Butanediol, 1,3-Propanediol, and isosorbide) and 4,4'-diphenylmethane diisocyanate with a mixing ratio of 1:1:1.1. Subsequently, the properties of the polymers prepared using the different chain extenders were compared. The synthesis of polyurethane was confirmed by FT-IR, TGA, and GPC. The mechanical properties (hardness, ball rebound, and tensile strength) of the materials were analyzed using shore A tester, taber abrasion, and UTM. heat, chemical, and water resistances of the prepared materials were measured by comparing the tensile strengths according to external changes.

  • Attenuation of fundamental longitudinal guided wave propagating liquid-filled steel pipes is numerically investigated. Several liquids such as water, diesel oil, castor oil etc. are considered for the filing materials in the pipes. Sink is considered for numerical models for abandoning standing wave modes; hence the attenuation dispersion curves become much simpler. Those attenuation calculations can be utilized for guided-wave-based nondestructive testing of pipelines when one inspects pipelines, using monitoring sensors, which are installed outside pipes.

  • This study examined the radial variations in element demensions of mongolian oak (Quercus mongolica.), elm (Ulmus japonica.), maackia(Maackia amurensis.), castor aralia (Kalopanax pictus.) from pith outwards. Disks were cut from the d.b.h.(above 1.2m) of each species and specimen for tangential pore diameters, fiber length, ray height and width were taken from 1-3rd, 5th, 10th, 15th.............40th ring number from pith. The tangential pore diameters in the earlywood increased rapidly near the pith and then maintained almost constant or very gradually increased diameters in about 20th-30th ring number from pith. In the latewood, tangential pore diameters gradually increased from pith to outwards though the increment is smaller than in early wood. Radial variations of ray height and width maintained almost constant, gradually increased or rapidly increased diameters and then maintained almost constant from pith to outwards. Patterns of radial variations in the fiber length were almost coincident with patterns of earlywood pore diameters, and of ray height or width in Ulmus japonica and Maackia amurensis.
