  • Due to the increasing competition, automotive manufacturers have to manufacture highly safe and light vehicles. The parts which make up the body of the vehicle and absorb the energy in case of a crash, are usually manufactured with sheet metal forming methods such as deep drawing, bending, trimming and spinning. The part may get thinner, thicker, folded, teared, wrinkled and spring back based on the manufacturing conditions during manufacturing and the type of application methods. Transferring these effects which originate from the forming process to the crash simulations that are performed for vehicle safety simulations, makes accurate and reliable results possible. As a part of this study, firstly, the one-step and incremental sheet metal forming analysis (deep drawing + trimming + spring back) of vehicle front bumper beam and crash boxes were conducted. Then, crash performances for cases with and without the effects of sheet metal forming were assessed in the crash analysis of vehicle front bumper beam and crash box. It was detected that the parts absorbed 12.89% more energy in total in cases where the effect of the forming process was included. It was revealed that forming history has a significant effect on the crash performance of the vehicle parts.

  • A 5-year-old castrated male Chinchilla Persian cat weighing 4.84 kg was referred for hematuria. The cat had a history of urethrostomy and bacterial cystitis. In urine culture, Candida glabrata was cultured on Sabouraud dextrose agar. Based on these results, the cat was diagnosed with Candida cystitis. Subsequently, oral administration of fluconazole was initiated. Urine culture was negative at 31 days after administration. This case describes the diagnosis and treatment of Candida glabrata infection of urinary bladder in a cat with a history of urethrostomy.

  • From the early 1980's, when Chinese government decided to take an Open-Policy. Chinese society faced a new turning point to be changed from traditional-society to modern-society. As a result her outstanding phenomena of civilization is to be seen in many points, like the oid styled traditional street is rapidly replaced by the modernized high-rise buildings. Like the other cities in China, Beijing(北京) also is on the step of modernization, and it's changing speed is faster time by time. In this paper, I'll discuss about Beijing's policy of reservation of Old castles(古城), some problems what they have though the procedure of China's Movement of Old Castle Reservation(古城保護運動). And through this case study, I'd like to focus on the way how we solve some problems what we have now concerning to the reservation and development of traditional cities.

  • Rafter is a member for roof and plays a role in protecting shaft members under rafter such as pillar, beam and girder from natural environment and to fix by supporting finished materials of roof. It is common in the Korean architecture that rafter cross-section is paired with circular form and Buyeon cross-section is paired with the square shape. However, while there are not many, some architectures have rafter end header in the square shape. The aim of this study is to examine the square shape cases of rafter end header with special reference to stone structure. As a result, among stone structure related to Bangyeon, the majority case is seen at Palgakwondang type Seungtap. It was shown in the Seungtap of monk of Gusanseonmun school in the later Unified Silla to the early Goryeo period that succeeded Seodang Jijang.

  • Transmesenteric hernia, a type of internal hernias, is a rare cause of intestinal obstruction. This intraperitoneal hernia has no sac and is formed by protrusion of a loop of bowel through an aperture in the mesentery. Incarceration leads to intestinal obstruction and subsequently, strangulation and gangrene of varing lengths of intestine. This is a case report of 4-year-old girl with transmesenteric herniation of the terminal ileum through a defect in its own mesentery. Strangulation of the affected bowel necessitates resection and primary anastomosis with repair of mesenteric defect. The postoperative course was uneventful. Acute intestinal obstruction in the absence of an external hernia and with no history of a previous surgical procedure suggests the possibility of an internal hernia, especially if the patient has a history of chronic intermittent abdominal distress.

  • This study aims at the structural analysis of vibration and fatigue according to the tie rod configuration. The maximum displacement amplitude is happened at 156Hz by harmonic vibration analysis, this tie rod model can be broken as the weakest state. Among the cases of nonuniform fatigue loads, 'SAE bracket history' with the severest change of load becomes most unstable but 'Sine wave' becomes most stable. In case of 'Sine wave' with the average stress of 0MPa and the amplitude stress of 570MPa, the possibility of maximum damage becomes 70%. This stress state can be shown with 140 times more than the damage possibility of 'SAE bracket history' or 'SAE transmission'. The structural result of this study can be effectively utilized with the design on tie rod by investigating prevention and durability against its damage.

  • This research identifies the elements of the methodologies of Newton's discovery of his dynamics. These methodologies involve the transformation of preceding theoretical concepts and the discovery of common cause. This essay consists of two parts within historical case studies of Newton's works. The elements of the method of discovery consists of the transformation of preceding concepts and the identification of common cause in the formation of the research program's hard cores and protective belts. Newton transformed their predecessors' concepts to find out appropriate common causes in his dynamical theory. The transformed theoretical concepts are synthesized to be constructed as the elements of common cause which provide the foundations of Newtonian research programs.

  • Highrise concrete buildings are very sensitive to cumulative and differential shortening of their vertical element such as wall and columns. Inelastic deformation due to creep and shrinkage consist of various factors and load history af actual building is very complicated. Therefore, for the accurate prediction and compensation of axial shortening, special efforts in design and construction phase are required to ensure long-term serviceability and strength requirement. In this paper, axial shortening estimation and compensation procedure is presented, which utilized experimentally determined concrete properties and preliminary load history and computerized approach, in case of Plaza Rakyat office tower, 79-story reinforced concrete building under construction in Malaysia.

  • The problem of separation between the teaching and the practice of architectural design in Korean universities has activated this study. Comparison between two professor-architects in Italy through their various activities has been made during the period of 1991-1992 in the Istituto Universitario di Architettura di Venezia. The names of the two professor-architects are Aldo Rossi and Franco Mancuso. Their teaching activities in their architectural design class with their assistants, their background and formation of architectural theory, and two realized (and prized) works of them have been compared. The results show that there is a great difference (or oppositions) in their world-view and their attitudes towards architecture, the one as an empiricist, the other as a rationalist. But the most impressive observation must be the fact that all of them were coherent in their teaching, theory and practice, although this raises another qustion about the 'rationality' in architecture.

  • This thesis mainly deals with how 'count of Ryang' was used in Joseon dynasty. Count of Ryang means how many purlins were used in the building with longitudinal section. As a result, the notion of Ryang in Joseon dynasty does not differ from now one. But the usages of that are slightly different to the present day. In Joseon dynasty, count of Ryang mainly was appeared with another word, count of Kan. Count of Kan has two meanings. One is the length, and the other is the area of building. When they used the count of Ryang combined with Kan, count of Kan had the meaning of length. By doing that, count of Ryang indicates the size of flank, count of Kan indicates the length of front. In the 19th century, count of Ryang looks similar to the past, but count of Kan shows another aspect. It did not indicate the length but the area of building. Through this study, although the usages of Ryang were different to the present, the concepts of Ryang were similar in Joseon dynasty.
