A Study on Level of Economical Contribution due to Ship Type in Incheon Port (인천항 입.출항 선박형태에 따른 기여도 분석에 관한 연구)

  • Incheon Port has been served as not only the center of the Yellow Sea and port for trade with China but also domestic gateway port for the metropolitan area, playing a professional role as the greatest domestic Port which processes a variety of items such as imported raw materials, bulk cargo, oil and gas and so on. This study was conducted based on step by step business process between port entry and departure of ship, and incurred cost according to port industry classification and performance on the port facility. Bulk cargo and general cargo such as grain, food, steel, scrap metal, wood, coal, LNG, LPG and oil etc., which have a vast majority of import goods, have been treated by 57,062 thousand tons and 7,409 thousand tons of container cargo were processed at Incheon Port in 2009. Bulk vessels and carriers moving items such as LPG, LNG and oil recorded 38,836 thousand won and full-container vessels recorded 11,001 thousand won as the amount of notified port facility usage fees in 2008.

  • A heating cargo is solidified by several reasons during carnage. This study is to analyse a cargo accident which 811, 202 US barrels of Nile Blend crude oil reamined solid in the tanks after discharge. There are some possibilities that low temperature of loading cargo below cloud point and wax appearance temperature at loading time, heating interruption during voyage or discharging, and prohibition of crude oil washing during discharging might influence the cargo solidified. But we concluded that the defect of heating system would most affect the heating cargo solidified locally, and which blocked drain hole of bottom transverse and web frame and they obstruct flow of heating cargo in the tanks.

  • In this paper, we analyze accident factors that occur in the unloading of steel cargoes and try to derive priority of importance among factors. The Fuzzy-AHP, which enables hierarchical analysis through pairwise comparison of factors, is used to derive priorities of safety factors to consider when unloading steel cargo. In the top factor analysis results, weights were ranked in order of human factors, safety education, equipment and facilities, and business environment. The purpose of this paper is to contribute to the improvement of the safety consciousness of the field workers and enterprises and to reduce the incidence of accidents in the unloading and unloading operations by deriving the relative importance between the factors. In the future, it is necessary to study the cargoes of other disasters such as container cargo as well as steel cargo.

A Study on the Evaluation of Cargo Securing Safety for Car ferry Ships Using Wave Height Information (해상 파고 정보를 활용한 카페리 선박의 고박안전성 평가에 관한 연구)

  • Cargo securing safety, which is one factor for the safe operation of car ferry ships, has been applied since 2015 and evaluated by comparing the hull motion and securing load capacity generated by waves. To ensure the safe operation of the 3700 ton class car ferry, it is important to analyze the hull acceleration motion based on the sea wave information of the navigation area to determine the cargo securing load that can prevent the movement of cargo. In this study, the meteorological information of three wave buoys installed in Busan and Jeju area was analyzed for the past 5 years. In addition, the hull acceleration was measured in actual sea conditions and compared to that of numerical simulations. Under the condition of a significant wave height of 2.5 m from Feb to Mar, except typhoon seasons, the lateral acceleration was observed to be 1.5 m/s2 in real ship measuring and 1.8 m/s2 in numerical calculation. It was analyzed to be less than 40% under general weather conditions compared to the high wave warning using an approximate formula for estimating the hull motion by wave height. The cargo securing safety proposed in this study will be widely used based on the actual measuring acceleration with the sea wave height.

  • Unlike general ships, offshore plants require high reliability due to their long operating time at fixed positions when they are operated. Sensor-based status information is required for user and maintenance worker to ensure safety. In this paper, we propose a monitoring system for safety diagnosis and inspection of cargo lift for offshore plant. It consists of a sensor unit mounted on the cargo Lift, an embedded system measurement unit, and a monitoring unit for real-time data verification. It is based on the ship standard network IEC 61162-450 for the exchange of operating information and sensor measurement information in accordance with the upgrading and integration of equipment in maritime.

  • Natural gas hydrates are newly emerging as an environment-friendly source of energy to substitute for fossil fuels in the 21stcentury.NGHs are reported to holds much amounts of natural gas (up to 182 standard volumes of gas per volume of hydrate); they are easy to store and safe to carry at about minus 20 degree Celsius under atmospheric pressure because of the self-preservation phenomenon of gas hydrates. The transporting method by gas-ice-hydrate ship carriers has been introduced and developed by a variety of industry and research institutions. Our team has been conducted to develop NGH total systems, including a breakthrough NGH carrier for sea transportation, since 2011. The NGH pellet carrier does not require a separate cooling system for cargo, and the initial temperature is maintained through insulation of the cargo tanks throughout the transport to the final destination. The heat conducted from the exterior and passing through the insulation material of the hull should be cut off as much as possible, but heat inflow inside the cargo tank from an external source is inevitable during transport. In this study, the heat transfer in a cargo tank of a 115K NGH carrier was analyzed through simulation with a commercial CFD code to estimate the boil-off gas/boil-off rate on the developed carrier and understand major hazards that could significantly impact the safety of the vessel.

  • Ulsan Port is the main port for handling liquid cargo because of natural environmental conditions and the distribution of port infrastructures in Korea. Damage to both liquid cargo vessels and the port structure caused by maritime accidents could have a serious impact on property and human lives as well as the marine environment. For safe navigation, the parties concerned should ensure the suitability of various design criteria at the harbor design stage. In this paper we analyze and compare various domestic and international harbor design criteria, and then apply each criteria to Ulsan port to evaluate its overall safety. Additionally, this paper specifies certain precautions in terms of reviewing a ship's safety for each channel at Ulsan Port, and suggests possible improvements to optimize channel design.

  • The wave of 4PL added to strategic consulting based on new IT techniques, for example RFID, with logistics outsourcing through existing 3PL service is a great issue. It is also worthy of notice that EPCglobal network strengthen the role of 4PL. In conclusion, the 4PL system based on EPCglobal network will result in a good success, so it will raise a prestige of air cargo in Korea to a higher position. This study deals with the new logistics system, air cargo logistics system based on u-4PL system, RFID and EPCglobal network, that will bring many advantages.

A Study on Determining the Priority of Supervising Mooring Line while 125K LNG Moss Type Discharging at Pyeong Taek Gas Terminal

  • The Port of Pyeong Taek is located on the west coast, meaning that the difference between the rise and fall of tide is great (flood tide 1.8 to 2.9 knots, ebb tide 1.6 to 2.9 knots). Due to mainly N~NW'ly strong winds & high waves during winter, navigating as well as loading & discharging vessels must focus on cargo handling. The strong tidal and wind forces in the Port of Pyeong Taek can push an LNG carrier away from its berth, which will end up causing forced disconnection between the vessel's cargo line and shore-side loading arm. The primary consequence of this disconnection will be LNG leakage, which will lead to tremendous physical damage to the hull and shore-side equipment. In this study, the 125K LNG Moss Type ship docked at No. 1 Pier of the Pyeong Taek is observed, and the tension of the mooring line during cargo handling is calculated using a combination of wind and waves to determine effective mooring line and mooring line priority management. As a result if the wind direction is $90^{\circ}$ to the left and right of the bow, it was found that line monitoring should be performed bearing special attention to the Fore Spring Line, Fore Breast Line, and Aft Spring Line.
