Purpose: The purpose of this study was to analyze the research on adherence for secondary prevention in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD) in Korea, and to identify the strategies for improvement that should be included in future studies. Methods: Electric literature searches were conducted for Pubmed, CINAHL, RISS4U, KISTI, DBpia, KoreaMed, National Assembly Library, and National Library of Korea. A total of forty two articles published between 1986 and 2009 were selected based on established inclusion criteria. Results: Forty research papers were related to nursing, and there was only one research paper focused 011 elderly people with CAD. There were no papers using concept analysis, qualitative study. or randomized controlled clinical trial. Almost all definitions of adherence were adopted from outdated compliance definitions with the attribute of 'paternalistic obligation', Measurement tools were not based on theoretical framework of adherence but borrowed from tools for measuring self-care, health behavior, or self-efficacy. Overall patient's adherence was analyzed in most studies, except for a few studies which focused on diet and exercise only. Educational strategy was the main strategy used in intervention studies. Conclusions: The concept of adherence and measurement tools need to be clarified, along with development of the specific adherence interventions according to the type of adherence in patients with CAD.
The study is investigated socioeconomic variations in perceived oral health status and contribution of oral health behavioral factors. A nationally representative sample (365 health and 1,787 unhealth aged 20 over years) from the 2015 Korea National Health and Nutrition Surveys was analyzed using logistic regression. Perceived oral health was lower among lower socioeconomic groups compared with higher socioeconomic groups. This association was increased when demo-socioeconomic factors and oral health behavioral were adjusted. When each oral health behavioral factor was considered separately, mediators such as smoking, frequency of tooth brushing and used oral care products or oral health examination explained a large part of the increased socioeconomic oral health status. Subjective bad oral health arise from different socioeconomic status, but this difference is increased by oral health behavioral factors. Therefore, socioeconomic inequity in perceived oral health status can be corrected more effectively by promotional oral health behaviors.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the factors influencing regular exercise of the elderly in discriminating regular exercise and non - regular exercise groups. Method: The subjects of this study were 167 elderly over the age of 60, living in a rural city in Korea. The data was collected by interview and self report questionnaire in 1999. The Cronbach 's alpha of scales used this study were .66 ~.97. Result: 1. There were significant differences in doing regular exercise between the perceived importance of the health(p=021), the perceived health status(p=.050), the perceived need of the exercise(p=000), the perceived importance of the exercise(p=.000), the intent of participation in the exercise program(p=.000), IADL score(p=.022), the perceived benefits of exercise (p=.000), the emotion of exercise(p=.000), HPLP(p=.000), the self efficacy(p=.001), the perceived benefits of health promoting behaviors(p= .011), the perceived barriers of the health promoting behaviors(p=.002), and the Internal locus of control(p=.021) of the elderly. 2. Variables which showed significance for discriminating regular exercise of the elderly in this study were the perceived need of the exercise(p=.000) and the perceived benefits of the exercise(p=.000). By using the combination of these variables, the possibility of proper prediction for predicting regular exercise group was 84.8 %, non - regular exercise group was 93.9%, and total Hit ratio was 89.4%. Conclusion: To improve exercise behavior in older adults, health care providers should focus of developing interventions to strengthen the perceived benefits, the perceived needs of the exercise.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the relationship of fatigue and quality of sleep in patients with cancer. Method: The data was collected from January to February 2001. Study objects were recruited K university hospital in Busan, Korea. Their fatigue was measured using the Revised Piper Fatigue Scale developed by Piper et. al(1998), and quality of sleep was measured using Quality of Sleep Questionare by Oh et. al(1998). Result: 1) The fatigue score was mean $114.80{\pm}34.88$(range: 22-220). The sub dimension that showed behavior/severity score at $33.70{\pm}13.89$, affective score at $24.23{\pm}3.33$, sensory score at $27.74{\pm}12.51$, and cognitive/mood score at $29.11{\pm}3.71$. And sleep quality score was mean $37.32{\pm}8.18$. 2) There was a significant difference in religion(F=4.157, P= .008), present therapy(F=2.536, P= .043), past therapy(F=6.625, P= .000), major caregiver(F=3.133, P= .028), and change of weight(F=7.965, P=.006), according to general characteristics in the fatigue in patients with cancer. 3) There was a significant difference in present pain(t=-2.103, P= .037) and change of weight(F=5.484, P=.005), according to general characteristics in the sleep quality in patients with cancer. 4) There was a significant negative correlation between fatigue and quality of sleep(r=- .340, P= .000). Conclusion: Patients with cancer experience in fatigue. Increase in fatigue are associated with decreases in quality of sleep. Nurses must provide patients with nursing care about the occurrence of fatigue and interventions to deal with sleep disturbance.

Small cell lung carcinoma (SCLC) is a cancer that shows aggressive behavior, early spread to distant sites, and frequent association with distinct paraneoplastic syndromes. Spontaneous remission of cancer, particularly of SCLC, is a rare biological event. Cases involving spontaneous regression of SCLC were reported, and were associated with paraneoplastic syndromes of the nervous system. This article reports on a 78-year-old man with SCLC in remission, with neurological symptoms. The patient visited the hospital because of generalized weakness, and imaging studies revealed a mass in the lower lobe of the left lung, pathological evaluation showed SCLC. The patient refused oncologic treatment and was treated only with conservative care. In follow-up study the diameter of the mass had decreased from initial 32 mm, 9 months after admission to 20 mm, 17 months after admission to 13 mm. The patient kept complaining of generalized weakness, dizziness, and paresthesia of limbs. We assumed that, in this case, the spontaneous remission of lung cancer was related to the immunologic response directed against the tumor, which is believed to be an important factor in the pathogenesis of paraneoplastic neurologic syndromes.
The purpose of this study was to identify the frequency of Urinary Incontinence and lower urinary tract symptoms, to identify life style problems for UI of Women in anIsland. The sample consisted of 88 women in an island, a urinary symptom questionnaire developed by Jackson, et. al. and a demographic questionnaire were used to collect the data. The results of study were as following. 1. It was reported that the subjects have experienced UI and various lower urinary symptoms such as stress incontinence, nocturia, intermittency, abnormal stream, feeling of incomplete emptying and also they have experienced some degree of 'bother' 2. It was reported that the subjects have experienced various life style problems for UI 3. There was significant relationship between age and urgency (p=0.0262), bladder pain (p=0.0268), abnormal strength of stream (p=0.0074), inability to stop midstream (p=0.0026), and ability to perform daily tasks (p=0.0488), 4. There was a significant relationship between the number of discharges and urgency (p=0.0273), abnormal strength of stream (p=0.0307), and inability to stop midstream (p=0.0122). 5. There was a significant relationship between menopause and bladder pain (p=0.0020), abnormal strength of stream (p=0.0245), and inability to stop midstream (p=0.0002). 6. There was a significant relationship between the degree of experiences for lower urinary tract symptoms and life style behavior. Therefore, based on the results, a developing and carrying out of adequate UI care program is needed.
This study aims to clarify the psychosocial reactions of female patients with gynecological cancer undergoing chemotherapy and in the process of suffering from alopecia and to examine their nursing support. The target group comprised female patients who had received two or more cycles of chemotherapy, were suffering from alopecia, and were aged 30-65. Data were collected from semi-structured interviews, conducted from the time the patients were informed by their doctors that they might experience alopecia due to chemotherapy to the time they actually experienced alopecia and until they were able to accept the change. Inductive qualitative analysis was employed to close in on the subjective experiences of the cancer patients. The results showed the existence of six phases in the psychosocial reactions in the process of alopecia: phase one was the reaction after the doctor's explanation; phase two was the reaction when the hair starts to fall out; phase three was the reaction when the hair starts to intensely fall out; phase four was the reaction when the hair has completely fallen out; phase five was the reaction to behavior for coping with alopecia; and phase six was the reaction to change in interpersonal human relationships. The results also made it clear that there are five types of reaction patterns as follows: 1) treatment priority interpersonal relationship maintenance type; 2) alopecia agitated interpersonal relationship maintenance type; 3) alopecia agitated interpersonal relationship reduction type; 4) alopecia denial interpersonal relationship reduction type; and 5) alopecia denial treatment interruption type. It is important to find out which of the five types the patients belong to early during treatment and provide support so that nursing intervention that suits each individual can be practiced. The purpose of this study is to make clear the process in which patients receiving chemotherapy come to accept alopecia and to examine evidence-based nursing care on patients with strong mental distress from alopecia.
Purpose: The aims of this study were to describe and interpret the nature of the experience inherent in the sex life of female breast cancer patients after treatment and understand the meaning behind it. Methods: The participants were 10 female breast cancer patients who were married. Data were collected from March to September 2010. Van Manen's hermeneutic phenomenology was adopted in this qualitative study as a research method. Results: There were 4 essential topics in the participants' experience of sex life; 'Sex life alert' was a result of negative changes in sexual relationships with spouse that they had never experienced before the breast cancer diagnosis; 'Precarious situation for pending divorce' was an experience of deteriorated sex life because of the failure to overcome 'sex life alert'; 'Sublimation of the difficulties by discovering an alternative solution' was an experience of discovering a solution to overcome the 'sex life alert'. 'Leaving it as unsettled' was an experience of a condition in which the participants did not have any intension to resolve the difficulties in sex life due to the lack of appropriate support, thus tried to ignore the challenges faced. Conclusion: This study illustrates the necessity to develop proper nursing intervention on the issues related to sex life among breast cancer patients. Given the fact that the sexual topics are often considered taboo in day to day nursing practice, special attention and efforts need to be given in this area to build up nursing knowledge and evidence-based practice.
The purpose of this research is to compare and contrast the structural types and the patterned characteristics on the weight management of female college students by making subjective and interpretative approaches based on Q methodology, which identifies the subjectivity regarding the weight management of female college students. Subjects are categorized into three different types after the forceful classification of the forty-one Q samples selected as P samples from the thirty-nine female college students. They are as follows: the first is 'the negative body image type that attempts compusive weight control, the second is 'the health-care-seeking type that maintains consistent weight management', and the third is 'the ego-certain type that can self-control weigh management'. As a result of this research, structural differences were found among the three different types, which can be utilized as basic resources for the behavior of desirable and righteous weight management.
The advent of Internet of Things(IoT) has increased the need for development of smart life based on Information and Communication Technology(ICT). By using IoT technology, we are able to control connected appliances using smart devices, such as smart phone. To support the smart life, there is a need to utilize emotion information for human behavior, based on both biorhythm and environment information. Research towards this goal suggests a smart lamp control system that has an effect on the human emotion. According to the PSI theory, the control system calculates the biorhythm with an algorithm that uses the human biorhythm, weather factors and walking amounts. The smart lamp works with the recommended color lights that can control the feelings and emotions of the user. Here, we will show the effect of physical and mental stability, health care, and accident prevention.
