Cardiopulmonary resuscitation(CPR) is an important clinical technique performing artificial ventilation and chest compression on a patient under emergent situation before arriving in hospital. Since the quality of CPR significantly affects the survival rate, it would be of great advantage to monitor respiration in real time during CPR. However, currently applied respiratory air flow transducers are difficult to apply with sensing elements in the middle of the flow axis. The present study developed a new turbulent air flow transducer conveniently applicable to CPR. Abrupt changes in diameter of the flow tube generated turbulence in air flow, thereby pressure difference was obtained to estimate the air flow rate, with no physical object on the flow plane. Expiration and inspiration were separated by the direction of the pressure difference, resulting in good symmetry. Pressure-flow relationship was tested on a quadratic model, which provided accurate enough estimation results. Therefore, the present turbulent air flow transducer seemed appropriate to monitor respiration during CPR.

Purpose: This study aimed to compare the effectiveness of one-hand compression method (one-hand) and two-thumb compression methods (two-thumb) using a 3-year-old pediatric mannequin. Methods: Participants in the experiment were randomly assigned to 21 people with one hand and 21 people with two thumbs, who had completed a basic life support training course. The mannequin used a few junior QCPR manikis (Laerdal, Norway), based on an age of 3. The study followed the guidelines for two-rescuer pediatric CPR, performing chest compressions and ventilations in a 15:2 ratio for 5 cycles, 10 minutes. The chest compression number, depth, speed rate, and recoil rate were measured after 1, 3, and 5 cycles, respectively. Data were analyzed using SPSS 23.0. Results: Comparing the efficiency of chest compressions performed during 1, 3, and 5 cycles, the depth of chest compressions was 40.84±3.10 mm for the two thumbs and 51.48±4.79 mm for the one-hand, which was significantly different (p<.001). According to pediatric CPR guidelines, the frequency corresponding to the compression depth range of 40.00-50.00 mm was statistically higher at 57.1% (12 people) of two thumb than at 23.8% (5 people) of one hand (p<.001). Conclusion: While the current guidelines recommend one- or two-thumb encircling hand compressions for larger children, the use of one- or two-handed wrapped thumb compressions should be considered for smaller children, depending on the rescuer's judgment, when distinguishing between a child and an infant is difficult.

Purpose: The aim of this study is to investigate the quality of basic life support (BLS) information for primary Korean-speaking individuals on the internet. Methods: Using the $Google^{(C)}$ search engine, we searched for the terms 'CPR', 'cardiopulmonary resuscitation (in Korean)' and 'cardiac arrest (in Korean)'. The accuracy, reliability and accessibility of web pages was evaluated based on the 2015 American heart association(AHA) guidelines for CPR & emergency cardiovascular care, the health on the net foundation code of conduct and Korean web content accessibility guidelines 2.1, respectively. Results: Of the 178 web pages screened, 50 met criteria for inclusion. The overall quality of BLS information was not enough (median 5/7, IQR 4.75-6). 23(36%) pages were created in accordance with 2010 AHA guidelines. Only 24(48%) web pages educated on how to use the automated electrical defibrillator. The attribution and transparency of the reliability of pages was relatively low, 20(40%) and 16(32%). The web accessibility score was relatively high. Conclusion: A small of proportion of internet web pages searched by Google have high quality BLS information for a Korean-speaking population. Web pages based on past guideline were still being searched. The notation of the source of CPR information and the transparency of the author should be improved. The verification and evaluation of the quality of BLS information exposed to the Internet are continuously needed.
This paper reports is a descriptive study for analyzing the knowledge level and educational condition of dental hygiene students regarding cardiopulmonary resuscitation(CPR). This study was implemented from May 24, 2010 to June 4, 2010. The results were as follows: 1. The score was low for the knowledge level of CPR (3.72 out of 8.0). 2. The knowledge level of CPR was higher in the students with heart disease in their family than in those without(t=5.725, P<0.05). 3. While students had a high percentage of correct answers e.g. 93.5% and 73.8% for the mouth-to-mouth CPR and hand position in pressing the upper part of the belly, they had low percentage of correct answers, e.g. 8.2%, 28.9%, 25.4%, and 49.2% for consciousness and breathing check, maintaining the airway and the time to brain damage from a heart attack, respectively. 4. The students used TV(55.2%) and the Internet(20.1%) as the medium for observing CPR. 5. 60.2% of students did not have any training in CPR. 6. More than 90.0% of students required training in CPR. Most of the students requested CPR training when they attended middle and high school. They had hoped to receive CPR training at school or a specialized training organization. In conclusion, the knowledge level of CPR of dental hygiene students is low, and the need for training and participation is high. Therefore, dental hygiene students should receive CPR training.
Purpose: The purpose of the study was to evaluate the ergonomic risk factors of 119 emergency medical technicians (EMT) with musculoskeletal disorders, performing emergency medical services (EMS) procedures in a firefighter combat challenge. Methods: The evaluated EMT procedures were cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) & intubation, trauma patient assessment, and intravenous (IV) injection. Measurement of working posture was done during training. Results: In CPR & intubation, OWAS-score was 2 (mean 1.9, maximum 4), requiring correction action, while REBA-score was 11 (mean 7.28, maximum 11), requiring immediate improvement. In trauma patient assessment & IV injection, OWAS-score was 4 (mean 2.9, maximum 4), requiring immediate correction action, while the REBA score was 7 (mean 7.5, maximum 11), requiring improvement. Conclusion: Both OWAS score and REBA-score showed improvement of posture and high-risk of musculoskeletal disorders. Occupational health management in EMS procedures during combat challenge and effective injury prevention program in fire stations are warranted.
Purpose: This study aimed to assess the awareness of good Samaritan law and attitude toward basic life support (BLS) of university students. Methods: A 29-item questionnaire survey was conducted among 147 students in A university. The participants were freshmen and sophomores who had received cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training in middle or high school. Statistical analysis was carried out using SPSS 21.0. Results: The majority (85%) of the participants knew about the good Samaritan clause in the Emergency Medical Service Act, but only about half (58.5%) knew about the Non-rescuer Act. Almost all of the patients said they would administer CPR to patients and showed a positive attitude toward BLS (3.74±0.40). Conclusion: Greater help attitude was exhibited by those who knew the good Samaritan law. These findings suggested that such education may increase their likelihood or helping in emergencies.
Purpose: There has been an increase in the number of prehospital cardiac arrests due to the increasing number of cardiovascular diseases and the increase in the average age of the population. We performed this study to identify the proper resuscitation technique and AED to be used to increase the survival rate in prehospital cardiac arrests. Methods: This studied 159 victims with prehospital cardiac arrests(VF or VT rhythm) by EMT's Reports from January to August, 2005. Results: 108 of 159 victims(67.9%) were shocked by AED. Eighty of 159 victims(50.9%) were recorded with AED shock in prehospital cardiac arrests. A number of shocks is averaged 2.19; 46.2% of one-shock and 86.1% of 1-3 shock. EMS first-tier response interval from time of dispatch to scene arrival was 5.88 minutes, from scene arrival to scene start was 7.36 minutes, from scene start to hospital admission was 9.91 minutes and from scene arrival to AED shock was 6.84 minutes. EMT provided advanced care to prehospital cardiac arrests: 97.5% in CPR, 10.1% in advanced airway management, 67.9% in AED shock. Conclusion: With the increase in cardiovascular disease and old age, the number of prehospital cardiac arrests has risen gradually. However, there were lack of CPR by bystander, defibrillation and advanced cardiac life support(ACLS) in prehospital stage. To improve the adequacy of basic life support and to increase the performance of ACLS, especially AED, we must create challenges to develop new protocols in prehospital care.
The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of Basic Life Support course for healthcare provider education in nursing students on CPR knowledge, attitude and self-efficacy. This study was a one group pre-post design and the data were collected from 69 nursing students, July 11 to August 1, 2020 at a college in the J city. Data were analyzed by frequency, percentage, paired t-test using SPSS 20.0. CPR program was significantly increasing CPR knowledge(t=-14.71, p<.001), attitude(t=-7.33, p<.001), and self-efficacy(t=-6.63, p<.001). Base on this study, it is suggested that basic life support education program will be continued and need to study using various method of eduction, effect period.

This study was conducted for effective CPR by comparing the quality of chest compressions when using a new chest compression method during pediatric CPR. As an experimental study by Randomized Crossover Design, the depth, speed, compression-to-relaxation ratio, ease, and stability were measured when performing chest compressions for 28 Emergency Medical Technicians who completed the BLS Health Care-Provider qualification. The collected data were analyzed by using the SPSS Ver. 23.0 for Win statistical program. To summarize the results of this study, if the new chest compression method was used for chest compression in pediatric CPR, the qualitative indicators of chest compressions were improved. It is good to stick to the existing method, but through the new chest compression method, it will be necessary to confirm the possibility of clinical use based on additional research on various age groups and environmental factors.
This study was conducted on 3,418 cases of cardiopulmonary arrest patients' detailed status table (2020, raw data) collected in 2020. Also, it is a retrospective narrative research that investigates and examines related laws and guidelines. The main findings are as follows. First, the implementation rate of 'bystander CPR' was 30.66% (1047 cases) and it was a remarkable result. It can be inferred the quality of the relevant laws and guidelines. Second, 'Public access defibrillation (shock)' accounted for only 0.10%(5 cases). it is considered that the relevant laws and guidelines are weighted towards 'stock and obligation.' Strategic differentiation of response by region is needed. Third, out-of-hospital cardiac arrest occurred at house was 71.97%(2,640 cases). To operate the 'special ambulance team' efficiently, it is necessary to analyze regional data more closely and develop an efficient strategy in the future.
