Ketorolac tromethamine(KT) is a nonsteroidal agent with potent analgesic and moderate anti-inflammatory activity. The lipid-water partition coefficient of KT was evaluated and KT gel was formulated as a gel containing different pH, different concentrations of polymer (poloxamer 407, carbopol 941), propylene glycol, ethanol and various enhancers. The resulting KT gels were evaluated with respect to their viscosity, in vitro drug permeation rate through hairless mouse skin and stability. In n-octanol and chloroform, the lipid-water partition coefficient of KT was the highest at pH 4 phosphate buffer. The apparent viscosity of KT gel increased with an increase in gel pH, polymer and enhancer concentration. But the apparent viscosity of KT gel decreased with an increase in ethanol concentration. The permeation rate of KT through hairless mouse skin from gels different pH was maximum at pH 4 which is close to KT $pK_{a}$ 3.54. The permeation rate decreased with an increase in polymer, propylene glycol concentration. But the permeation rate increased with an increase in ethanol. The increase of drug concentration from 1 to 3% induced linear increase in permeation rate. The best enhancer was the combination of $Labrasol^{\circledR},\;Transcutol^{\circledR}$, oleic acid and l-menthol. In the accelerated stability test(25, 40 and $50{\circ}C$), pH 5 gel was most stable and pH 4 gel was most unstable for 90 days.

A new capsaicin analog modified with 4-hydroxyl and alkyl chain of capsaicin was a very potent antiinflammatory analgesic drug and may be clinically useful for those who have rheumatoid arthritis, diabetic neuropathy and cancer. The purpose of this study was to investigate histopathology after short and long term application of poloxamer-based gels, and percutaneous absorption of various topical formulations. Poloxamer-based gel was prepared by cold method using poloxamer 407. The poloxamer gels was applied to dorsal sites of hairless mouse skin during one week or one month for the evaluation of skin irritation. The applied site was then sectioned for histopathologic examination. The topical formulations were also prepared using CMC, HPMC, MC, carbopol and glycerylmono stearate. Skin variation of poloxamer gels was studied using excised hairless mouse, rat, hamster and human penis skin. Franz-type diffusion cells were used far skin penetration of drug against receptor phase filled with about 10$m\ell$ of 0.9% saline solution kept at 32$^{\circ}C$. The concentration of drug was determined by the reverse phased C18, Symmetry HPLC with fluorometeric detector. No skin erythema was observed after dorsal application of poloxamer-based gels for one week or one month. No histopathologic changes was also examined, suggesting no skin toxicity of poloxamer-based gels. The order of flux rate was HPMC > MC ( CMC > poloxamer >> glycerylmono stearate ( carbopol. There was a skin variation of poloxamer gels. The flux rate of poloxamer gels was highest in case of hairless mouse followed by rat, human and hamster skin. The study was carried out for the preparation and evaluation of a buoyant hydrogel matrix (BHM), which is buoyant in a neutral or in pH 2.0 buffer solution, by the aspects of buoyancy, swelling, and drug release. Physical mixtures of HPC and CP in various molar ratio were employed as a mucoadhesive polymer which swells and controls the rate of drug release. Anhydrous citric acid and sodium bicarbonate in the molar ratio of 1:3 were employed as effervescing agents which provide a buoyancy for the mucoadhesive polymeric matrix. The buoyancy in vitro was expressed as both floating time$(T_{fl})$ and surfing time$(T_{sf})$, which are the time required for floating from the bottom to the surface of the medium and the time to keep the floated state at the surface of medium during release studies, respectively. A close relationship was observed between the buoyancy and the amount of effervescing agent added. $T_{fl}$ of the buoyant hydrogel matrices were decreased to about 10 seconds linearly with increasing the amount of effervescing agent in the range of 5 to 15%. $T_{sf}$ of the buoyant hydrogel matrices were varied from 1 to 3 hr depending on the amount of effervescing agent. The swelling was observed by changes in diameter of the buoyant hydrogel matrices in distilled water or acidic buffer solution, resulted in dependences on pH and the amount of effervescing agents. The release of hydrochlorothiazide from the buoyant hydrogel matrices were followed by apparent zero-order kinetics, while the buoyant hydrogel matrices were floated at the surface and maintaining their swollen shapes.

In this study, two different kind of impeller, commercial hand blender and manual type were used to investigate the most effective mixing method for simulant gel propellant. Ionized Water, Carbopol 941 and NaOH were used to produce the simulant gel for temperature of $25^{\circ}C$ and $50^{\circ}C$. The amount of bubbles produced during mixing of simulant gel at $50^{\circ}C$ were higher than that of simulant gel at $25^{\circ}C$. After 24 hours, bubbles of simulant gel made at $50^{\circ}C$ disappeared rapidly with respect to the bubbles of gel made at $25^{\circ}C$. Bubbles from blender did show notable amount even after 24 hours. Among mixing type, it was found that the pitched paddle impeller was the best candidate for the production of simulant gel.

The implementation of gelled propellants systems offers high performance, thrust-control, energy management of propulsion, storability, and high density impulse of solid propulsion. Present study focused on the spray behavior of liquid sheets formed by impinging jets of non-Newtonian liquids which are mixed by Carbopol 941 0.5%wt. The results are then compared with experiments conducted on spray images formed by impinging jets concerning with air-blast effect at center orifice. When gel propellants are injected by doublet impinging jets at low pressure, closed rim pattern shape appeared. As increasing air mass flow rate(decreasing GLR), spray breakup and atomization phenomenon better improved and spray structure instabilities for the effect of air-blast are also increased.

The pressure loss coefficient of Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids such as water, aqueous solutions of Carbopol-934 and Separan AP-273 and blood in the stenotic tubes are determined experimentally and numerically. The numerical analyses for flows of non-Newtonian fluids in the stenotic tubes are conducted by the finite element method. The effect of the contraction ratio and the ratio of length to diameter on the pressure drop are investigated by the experiments and numerical analysis. The pressure loss coefficients are significantly dependent upon the Reynolds number in the laminar flow regime. As Reynolds number increases, the pressure loss coefficients of both Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids decrease in the laminar flow regime. As the ratio of length to diameter increases the maximum pressure loss coefficient increases in the laminar flow regime for both Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids. Newtonian fuid shows the highest values of pressure loss coefficient and blood the next, followed by Carbopol solution and Separan solution in order. Experimental results are used to verify the numerical analyses for flows of Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids. Numerical results for the maximum pressure loss coefficient in the stenotic tubes are in fairly good agreement with the experimental results. The relative differences between the numerical and experimental results of the pressure loss coefficients in the laminar flow regime range from 0.5% to 14.8%.

Curved duct channel flow characteristics for non-Newtonian gel fluid is investigated. A simulant gel propellant mixed by Water, Carbopol 941 and NaOH solution has been chosen to analyze the gel propellant flow behavior. Rheological data have been measured prior to the flow analysis where water-gel propellant and water-gel propellant with $Al_2O_3$ nano particles are both used. The critical Dean number examined by the numerical simulation in the U-shape duct flow reveals that although water-gel-nano propellants have higher apparent viscosity, the critical Dean number do show no notable difference for both the two gel propellant. It is found that the power-law index may be a dominant parameter in determining the critical Dean number and that the gel with particles addition may be more vulnerable to Dean instability.

In this study, the surface tension of simulant gel propellants was measured by Du $No{\ddot{u}}y$ ring method. The variation of the surface tension was investigated with respect to the amount of the gelling agent, and metal particle addition. Distilled water was used as the base fluid for the preparation of the simulant gel propellant where Carbopol 941 was used as a gelling agent and SUS304 spherical metal particles (mean diameter : 100 nm) as simulant energetic particles. As a result of measurements, surface tension increased with increasing gelling agent concentration while, in the presence of metal particle, different behavior of surface tension has been observed.

The Present study uses non-Newtonian simulant gel propellant mixed by Water, Carbopol 941, and NaOH solution in order to analyze the gel propellant flow behavior. Rheological data have been measured and obtained prior to the analysis of flow characteristics where water-gel propellant as well as water-gel propellant with $Al_2O_3$ nano particles are both used. The critical Dean number were examined by numerical simulation of gel propellant in the U-shape duct flow. It is found that though gel-nano propellants have higher apparent viscosity, the critical Dean number did not showed notable difference with respect to the water-gel propellant. It is believe that this is due to the fact that the power law index of both propellants have close value, as was demonstrated by Fellouah et al.[1]
