A new porous carbon material "woodceramics" was developed by carbonizing wood or woody materials impregnated with thermosetting resin. Steamed board and non-steamed board were made from thinned small log of Aomori Hiba (Thujopsis dolabrata S. et. Z. var. hondae M.). They were impregnated with phenol resin and sintered in a vacuum furnace at $650^{\circ}C$. In this paper, the manufacturing method of woodceramics and changes of dimension, weight and compressive strength were investigated. The changes of dimension, weight and compressive strength depend on the types of board and density.
The purpose of this paper is to use lignin. Lignin was obtained by digestion of Korean pine wood, purified, and identified. After carbonizing lignin by con $c-H_2SO_4$, the resulting carbon was converted into active carbon by activating it in the electric kiln. The adsorptivity of this active carbon was obtained by measurement with a spectro-photometer. It has been found as a result that adsorption power is 89%.
A series of high capacity soft carbons with different phosphorus contents were successfully prepared by carbonizing petroleum cokes treated with hypophosphorous acid at $900^{\circ}C$. The effect of phosphorus content on the electrochemical performance of the soft carbons was extensively investigated. The P-doped soft carbons exhibited greatly enhanced discharge capacities and outstanding rate capabilities with increasing phosphorus content. In addition, the influence of temperature on the electrochemical behaviors of the soft carbons was investigated in a wide temperature range of $25^{\circ}C$ to $50^{\circ}C$. Surprisingly, the electrochemical properties of the pristine and P-doped soft carbons were highly sensitive to the operating temperature, unlike conventional graphite. The pristine and P-doped soft carbons exhibited significantly high discharge capacities of 470 and 522 mAh/g, respectively, at a high temperature of $50^{\circ}C$.

In the present study, carbon molecular sieve (CMS) hollow fiber membranes were prepared by carbonizing a methyl imide hollow fiber precursor, which was spun by non-solvent induced phase separation process. And effects of carbonization parameters such as pre-oxidation, pyrolysis, and post-oxidation on the gas permeation were systematically investigated. CMS membrane having the highest gas flux was obtained by carbonizing the precursor through a combined process of air pre-oxidation at $250^{\circ}C$ for 2h, nitrogen pyrolysis at $550^{\circ}C$ for 2h, and oxygen post-oxidation at $250^{\circ}C$ for 2h. The optimized membrane showed a considerable gas permeance : the $H_2$, He, $CO_2$ permeances were 69.72, 35.61, 31.01 GPU, respectively, and the $O_2$ and $N_2$ permeances were ignorable. Therefore, it was clear that the prepared CMS hollow fiber membrane was a promising membrane for recovering small gases such as hydrogen and hellium and carbon dioxide.

Organic insulating materials which are utilized as insulating materials for the low voltage show unique carbonization characteristics when they are carbonized by a leakage current. Therefore the use of the carbonization characteristics makes it possible to examine the electrical fire which is caused by a leakage current flowing on the surface of the organic insulating material. In order to understand such carbonization characteristics, in this paper, experiments have been done to carbonize typical organic insulating materials such as phenol resin, PVC, and acrylic resin, and the carbonization patterns and the IR absorption spectrum of specimens have been analyzed. According to the analysis of the carbonization patterns, the phenol resin shows the so-called 'spider-leg' carbonization pattern due to a thermosetting property. In contrast to the phenol resin, the thermoplastic property makes it difficult to observe a clear carbonization pattern to verify carbonizing causes on the surfaces of PVC and acrylic resins. In this case, the IR absorption spectrum can be analyzed to examine the specimen carbonized by a leakage current. The analysis result shows that absorption peaks appear at the wave numbers of $3,400[cm^{-1}]$ and $1,618[cm^{-1}]$, which can be an important factor to verify the carbonizing causes.
Recently, the request for the high strength of material is more and more increased in the area of industrial environment and machinery. To accomplish the high strength of materials, carbonizing treatment, nitrifying treatment, shot-peening method are representatively applied, however, shot-peening method is generally used among the surface processes. Shot peening is a cold working process used to impact Compressive residual stressed in the exposed surface layers. Benefits due to shot peening are increase in resistance to fatigue, stress corrosion cracking, fretting, galling, erosion and closing of pores. In this study, the influence of shot peening on the corrosion was investigated on spring steel immersed in 3.5% NaCl. The immersion test as performed on the two kinds of specimens. Corrsion potential, polarization curve, residual stress and etc, were investigated from experiment results. From test result the effect of shot peening on the corrosion was evaluated. The important results of the experimental study on the effects of shot peened on the environment corrosion of spring steels are as follows; In case of corrosion potential, shot peened specimen shows more activated negative direction as compared with parent mental. Surface of specimen, which is treated with the shot peened is placed as more activated state against inner base metal. It can cause t도 anti-corrosion effect on the base metal.
Purpose: Drying characteristics of the sliced carrot and green pumpkin were investigated by using the waste heat dryer. Methods: The effects of drying temperature ($T$) and slice thickness affecting drying time were analyzed. Mathematical models for the drying curves were determined with statistical analysis of drying data. Effective diffusivity was determined for the slices of carrot and green pumpkin under various drying conditions. Results: Drying time was reduced at the drying conditions of thinner slice and higher drying temperature. Moisture ratio ($MR$) according to drying time ($t$) was well presented as an exponential function at all of drying conditions for the slices of carrot and green pumpkin with the determination coefficient ($r^2$) of >0.99. The values of effective diffusivity ($D_{ff}$) of the slices for carrot and green pumpkin were increased with increasing the drying temperature. The relationship between Ln($D_{ff}$) and $1/T$ was linear with the determination coefficient ($r^2$) of >0.97. Conclusions: Drying model was well established as an exponential function at all of drying conditions for drying samples.
One of effective utilization method of rice husk is to utilize it as culture material by carbonizing the rice husk. As a second part of a series to investigate the effective and continuous production of carbonized rice husk by a cyclone combustor, a non-slagging vertical cyclone combustor without vortex collector pocket was introduced. Isothermal and mixed firing with LPG and rice husk were undertaken in order to characterize the system. Inert rice husk was used during the isothermal test to find mass of rice husk collected. It was impossible to ignite rice husk itself over the experimental conditions considered in this experiment. Cyclone combustor was operated at temperatures of 1,273~1,473K. Detailed combustion data were obtained from a pilot unit with the air flow rate of 70m$^3$/h and rice husk feed of 2kg. The equivalence ratio ranged from 0.66 to 3.48. The auxiliary gas flow rate was varied from 3.22 to 12.86$\ell$/min. The weight reduction, pH and particle size distribution of carbonized rice husk were measured to evaluate the quality of carbonized rice husk. An analysis of exhaust gas emission was conducted to characterize the combustor. The required carbonized rice husk could be obtained at equivalence ratio of 1.68~2.17, combustor temperature of 1,273~1,373K and auxiliary gas flow rate of 3.22~6.43$\ell$/min. A method to reduce CO emissions should be employed.

We proposed perfect recycling method of sea waste. The sea waste(rotten sea fish, rotten shell fish etc.) have bad smell and generate waste water, so these waste materials must be treated quickly. If we use speedy dryer, these sea waste can be changed to useful feed and liquid composts. Also this study relates to a method for drying a variety of untreated waste materials in a hermetically sealed state, and subsequently carbonizing the dried waste materials under a reduced pressure, thereby achieving a more stable and economical treatment for the waste materials, and an apparatus for performing the method. This effects of preventing generation of contaminants and environmental pollution while reducing fuel costs, and a carbide, obtained via the drying and carbonization of the waste material, are available into feed for poultry. The condensate water can be used to deodorants.
