  • In this paper, I propose the field emission tip for the E-beam array system that is made by carbon nanotubes(CNT). CNT is one of the most expected future materials, because of its great mechanical, chemical and electrical characteristics. So CNT can be used for many applications such as electron emitter, sensor, single electron transistor and AFM tip. And CNT will be applied to our E-beam array system as field emission tip so we will improve the system's electrical characteristics.

  • We report a simple, low cost, and reliable method for assembling a multi-walled nanotube (MWNT) to the end of a metal coated scanning probe microscopy (SPM) tip. By dropping the MWNT solution and applying an electric field between an SPM tip and an electrode, MWNTs which were dispersed into a dielectric solution were directly assembled onto the apex of the SPM tip due to the attraction by the dielectrophoretic force. The effective measurement of a MWNT -attached SPM tip was demonstrated by direct comparison with AFM images of a standard sample with a bare AFM tip.

  • Mo-tip field emitter arrays(FEAs) were fabricated by conventional Spindt process and their life time characteristics and failure mode were evaluated. The fabricated Mo-tip FEA could generate at least $0.35\{mu} A/tip$ emission current for about 320 persistently under a constant gate bias of 140 V and was finally destroyed through self-healing mode. Thin diamond-like carbon films were coated on the M-tip by plasma-enhanced CVD and the dependence of emission properties upon the DLC thickness was investigated. By DLC coating, the turn-on voltage and emission current were appeared to be improved whereas the current fluctuation was increased in the DLC thickness range of $0~1,000\{AA}$.

  • This paper shows that carbon nanotubes can be applied to a nanopipette. Nano space in atomic force microscope multi-wall carbon nanotube tips is filled with molecules and atoms with charges and then, the tips can be applied to nanopipette when the encapsulated media flow off under applying electrostatic forces. Since the nano space inside the tips can be refilled, the tips can be permanently used in ideal conditions of no chemical reaction and no mechanical deformation. Molecular dynamics simulations for nanopipette applications demonstrated the possibility of nano-lithography or single-metallofullerene-transistor array fabrication.

  • In this paper, we proposed a new method to control the length of carbon nanotube using electrochemical etching. We made a nano probe that was composed of the tungsten tip and multi-wall carbon nanotube. The nano probe was placed on the nano stage and the carbon nanotube on the nano probe was etched in the electrolyte solution with the applied voltage. The overall procedures were done under optical microscope and can be monitored. We can obtain a nano probe with proper length through this procedure.

  • A tip-type carbon nanotube(CNT)-based field emitter was studied to consider it as electron source for micro-focused x-ray tube. The CNT was grown directly on a metal (tungsten) substrate by using an inductively coupled plasma-chemical vapor deposition (ICP-CVD) method. Prior to CNT growth, the metal substrate was etched to have various tip angles from $10^{\circ}$ to $180^{\circ}C$ (flat-type). The morphologies and microstructures of all the grown CNTs were analyzed via field-emission SEM. Furthermore, the effects of substrate tip-angles on the emission properties of CNT-based field emitters were characterized to estimate the maximum current density, the turn-on voltage, and the spatial distribution of electron beams. Prolonged long-term stability testing of the CNT emitters was also performed. All the experiment results obtained from this study indicated why a tip-type CNT emitter, compared with a flat-type CNT emitter, would be more desirable for a micro-focused x-ray system, in terms of the emission current level, the focused beam area, and the emission stability.

  • Carbon nanotubes(CNTs) are grown by using Co catalyst metal. CNTs fabricated by PECVD(plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition) method are studied in terms of surface reaction and surface structure by TEM and Raman analysing method and ate analysed in its electrical field emission characteristics with variation of space between anode and cathode. Acetylene(C$_2$H$_2$) gas is used as the carbon source, while ammonia and hydrogen gas are used as catalyst and dilution gas. The CNTs grown by hydrogen(H$_2$) gas plasma indicates better vortical alignment, lower temperature process, and longer tip, compared to that grown by ammonia(NH$_3$) gas plasma. The CNTs fabricated with Co(cobalt) catalyst metal and PECVD method show the multiwall structure in mid-circle type in tip-end and the inner vacancy of 10nm. Emission properties of CNTs indicate the turn-on field to be 2.6 V/${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ We suggest that CNTs can be possibly applied to the emitter tip of FEDs and high brightness flat lamp because of low temperature CNTs growth, low turn-on field.

  • In this study, a carbon nanotube probe (CNT probe) is proposed as a mechanical force transducer for the measurement of pico-Newton (pN) order force in biological applications. In order to measure nantube's displacement in the air or liquid environment, the fabrication of a CNT probe with tip-specific loading of fluorescent dyes is performed using tip- specific functionalization of the nanotube and chemical bonding between dyes and nanotube. Also, we experimentally investigated the mechanical properties of the CNT probe using electrostatic actuation and fluorescence microscope measurement. Using fluorescence measurement of the tip deflection according to the applied voltage, we optimized the bending stiffness of the CNT probe, therefore determined the spring constant of the CNT probe. The results show that the spring constant of CNT probes is as small as 1 pN/nm and CNT probes can be used to measure pN order force.

  • Carbon nano tubes(CNTs) have been reported as field emission source because has a sharp tip, a high aspect tip, high chemical stability, high mechanical strength and low work function properties. In this study, we fabricated successfully the back-lamp of the I-inch flat type using CNTs, which was grown directly on cathode substrate of sodalime glass at low temperature. The brightness of CNT back-lamp is measured to $14 Kcd/m^{2}$ at $2000V_{dc}$ in spacing of $500{\mu}m$. And, the emission properties of packaged CNT back-lamp was analyzed as function of applying voltage and times.
