Numerical assessment of rectangular one- and two-way RC slabs strengthened with CFRP under impact loads

  • In this study, the flexural behaviors of one- and two-way reinforced concrete (RC) slabs strengthened with carbon-fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) strips under impact loads were investigated. The flexural strengthening of RC slabs under simulated static monotonic loads has been comprehensively studied. However, the flexural behavior of RC slabs strengthened with CFRP strips has not been investigated extensively, particularly those conducted numerically. Nonlinear three-dimensional finite element models were developed, executed, and verified against previous experimental results, producing satisfactory models with approximately 4% error. The models were extended to a parametric study, considering three geometric parameters: the slab rectangularity ratio, CFRP strip width, and CFRP strip configuration. Finally, the main results were used to derive a new formula for predicting the total deflection of RC slabs strengthened with CFRP strips under impact loads with an error of approximately 10%. The proposed equation reflected the slab rectangularity, CFRP strip width, equivalent slab stiffness, and dropped weight. Results indicated that the use of CFRP strips enhanced the overall impact performance, the wider the CFRP width, the better the enhancement. Moreover, the application of diagonally oriented CFRP strips diminished the cracking zone compared to straight strips. Additionally, the diagonal orientation of CFRP strips was more efficient for two-way slabs while the vertical orientation was found to be better in the case of one-way slabs.

  • Recently, global warming has become severe, and regulation is established for carbon savings each field. its regulation is applied to various fields using IC engine such as automobile, ship, agricultural machine. Therefore engine block applied Common Rail Direct Injection(CRDI) technology, that carry out thermal-structure analysis to examine design. The thermal load about 900℃ by explosion was applied in cylinder. And pressure about 9 MPa(90 Bar) was applied to structure analysis. As a result, it was the highest at 185.99℃ at the top of cylinder. Static-structure analysis applied thermal load, that was shown maximum equivalent stress at 142.59 Mpa and Maximum principal stress 145.03 MPa, Minimum principal stress -149 MPa. When compare analysis results to material property, it design is safety structurally.

  • A comparison of the welding performance of ship hull structural steels has been made. The weldability of steels especially designed for laser processing was compared to that of conventional hull and structural steels with plate thicknesses up to 12 mm. Autogenous laser beam welding was used to weld butt joints as well as skid and stake welded T-joints. The welds were assessed in accordance with the document "The Classification Societies′ Requirements for Approval of $CO_2$ Laser Welding Procedures". Small imperfections in the weld only grew slightly in root bend tests and they only had a minor influence on the fatigue properties of laser fillet welded joints. In Charpy impact tests, the 27 J transition temperature of the weld metal and HAZ ranged from below -60 to -5$0^{\circ}C$. The amount of martensite in the weld metal depended on the carbon equivalent of the steel with the highest amounts and highest hardness levels in conventional EH 36 (389 HV 5). Thermomechanically rolled steels contained less martensite and showed a correspondingly lower maximum hardness.

Dynamic analysis of viscoelastic concrete plates containing nanoparticle subjected to low velocity impact load

  • Dynamic study of concrete plates under impact load is presented in this article. The main objective of this work is presenting a mathematical model for the concrete plates under the impact load. The concrete plate is reinforced by carbon nanoparticles which the effective material proprieties are obtained by mixture's rule. Impacts are assumed to occur normally over the top layer of the plate and the interaction between the impactor and the structure is simulated using a new equivalent three-degree-of-freedom (TDOF) spring-mass-damper (SMD) model. The structure is assumed viscoelastic based on Kelvin-Voigt model. Based on the classical plate theory (CPT), energy method and Hamilton's principle, the motion equations are derived. Applying DQM, the dynamic deflection and contact force of the structure are calculated numerically so that the effects of mass, velocity and height of the impactor, volume percent of nanoparticles, structural damping and geometrical parameters of structure are shown on the dynamic deflection and contact force. Results show that considering structural damping leads to lower dynamic deflection and contact force. In addition, increasing the volume percent of nanoparticles yields to decreases in the deflection.

Sustainable use of OPC-CSA blend for artificial cementation of sand: A dosage optimization study

  • The use of calcium sulfoaluminate (CSA) cement as a rapid-hardening cement admixture or eco-friendly alternate for ordinary Portland cement (OPC) has been attempted over the years, but the cost of CSA cement and availability of suitable aluminium resource prevent its wide practical application. To propose an effective ground improvement design in sandy soil, this study aims at blending a certain percentage of CSA with OPC to find an optimum blend that would have fast-setting behavior with a lower carbon footprint than OPC without compromising the mechanical properties of the cemented sand. Compared to the 100% CSA case, initial speed of strength development of blended cement is relatively low as it is mixed with OPC. It is found that 80% OPC and 20% CSA blend has low initial strength but eventually produces equivalent ultimate strength (28 days curing) to that of CSA treated sand. The specific OPC-CSA blend (80:20) exhibits significantly higher strength gain than using pure OPC, thus allowing effective geotechnical designs for sustainable and controlled ground improvement. Further parametric studies were conducted for the blended cement under various curing conditions, cement contents, and curing times. Wet-cured cement treated sand had 33% lower strength than that of dry-cured samples, while the stiffness of wet-cured samples was 25% lower than that of dry-cured samples.

  • This study focuses on investigating the importance of managing greenhouse gas emissions from global energy consumption, specifically examining domestic targets for clean hydrogen production. Using life cycle assessment, we evaluated reductions in global warming potential and assessed the carbon neutrality contribution of the domestic hydrogen sector. Transitioning from brown or grey hydrogen to blue or green hydrogen can significantly reduce emissions, potentially lowering CO2 equivalent levels by 2030 and 2050. These research findings underscore the effectiveness of clean hydrogen as an energy management strategy and offer valuable insights for technology development.

신선식품용 재사용 EPE박스와 EPS박스에 대한 전과정 환경영향평가 (Comparative Life Cycle Assessment of Reusable and Disposable Distribution Packaging for Fresh Food)

  • In this study, we conducted a comparative life cycle assessment (LCA) of two different products, considering reusable and single-use packaging for fresh food distribution. For reusable packaging, we utilized expanded polyethylene (EPE), while for comparison, a disposable box made of widely used expanded polystyrene (EPS) was selected. We comprehensively analyzed the environmental impacts of production, transportation, reprocessing (for reused boxes), and disposal across 18 impact categories. Upon analyzing the actual reuse of 300 rounds of fresh food, the cumulative global warming potential (GWP) values for the EPE box were found to be 280.21 kg carbon dioxide (CO2) eq, demonstrating a significant 75% reduction compared to those of the EPS box. Furthermore, it was observed that the GWP values for the EPE boxes became equivalent to those of the EPS boxes after 12 rounds of reuse. In conclusion, reusable packaging shows substantial potential to contribute to the reduction of environmental burdens, aligning well with global environmental requirements for sustainable food distribution and related industries.

A Case Study to Estimate the Greenhouse-Gas Mitigation Potential on Conventional Rice Production System

  • 2011~2012년 2년간 전북 군산과 익산 지역의 관행농 벼를 재배하는 농가를 대상으로 온실가스 배출량 산정을 위한 인벤토리 목록을 구축하였다. 2년 누적 평균 데이터를 사용하여 전과정평가를 수행하고, 탄소성적 산출 및 온실가스 배출의 주요인을 분석하였다. 분석된 온실가스 배출 주요인자들을 대상으로 민감도 분석을 수행하여 온실가스 잠재량을 산정하고, 대상지역 농가들이 적용할 수 있는 온실가스 저감 영농법을 제안하고자 하였다. 관행농 쌀 생산농가를 대상으로 전과정 목록분석을 수행한 결과 탄소성적은 쌀 1 kg 생산을 기준으로 2.21 kg $CO_2.-eq.kg^{-1}$가 발생되었다. 온실가스 중 $CO_2$ 배출량이 가장 많았으나, 지구온난화 지수를 곱하여 이산화탄소 등가 ($CO_2$-eq.)로 환산하면 벼 생산체계의 탄소성적에서 메탄발생 기여도가 가장 컸다. 전체 $CO_2$ 배출량 중 복비생산 공정에서 37%가 발생하였고, 단비생산으로 10%, 벼 재배과정 중 40%가 발생하였다. 벼 재배 중 $CO_2$ 발생원은 농기계의 화석연료 사용에 의한 불완전 연소이다. $CH_4$는 대부분 벼 재배 중에 발생되었으며, 벼논의 메탄 발생 요인은 혐기조건의 담수논이다. $N_2O$은 대부분 벼 재배과정에서 배출되었고, 벼 재배 중 $N_2O$의 발생요인은 복비, 요소 비료, 퇴비 등의 비료시용이었다. 에너지 사용량 변화에 따른 민감도 분석결과 에너지원 중 경유의 민감도가 가장 높았고, 경유사용량을 10% 줄였을 때 약 2.5%의 $CO_2$ 감축 잠재량이 산정되었다. 복비 시용량을 10% 줄였을 때 $CO_2$는 약 1%, $N_2O$는 약 1.8%의 감축잠재량이 산정되었다. 퇴비시용을 10% 줄이면 약 1.5%의 메탄발생이 감소하고, 아산화질소는 약 1% 감소효과가 나타났다. 물떼기 일수가 10일 증가하면 메탄발생량이 약 4.5% 감소되었다. 투입량의 변화에 따른 온실가스 감소 효과가 가장 큰 요인은 벼논 물떼기 일수의 증가 및 경운과 수확시 사용하는 농기계용 경유사용량 감소였다. 그에 따라 중간낙수 및 무경운 등이 탄소배출 저감 영농법으로 제시되었다.

철강 슬래그를 사용한 도로용 긴급보수 모르타르에 관한 실험적 연구 (An Experimental Study on Rapid Repairing Mortar for Road with Steel Slag)

  • 본 연구는 철 생산 공정 중에 발생되는 철강슬래그를 재활용하는 것으로 매립에 의존하는 철강 슬래그를 건설용 재료로 사용하는 것이다. 철강 슬래그는 물과 반응할 경우 팽창 붕괴되어지는 문제로 인하여 에이징 처리를 실시하고 있다. 이런 문제점을 해결하기 위하여 개발된 SAT 공법은 철강슬래그의 팽창 붕괴에 대한 안전성을 갖는다. 이에 본 연구에서는 SAT 공법에 의해 제조된 환원슬래그와 전기로 산화슬래그, 실리콘 망간 슬래그를 사용하여 도로용 긴급 보수모르타르에 관한 실험적 연구를 실시하였으며 다음과 같은 결론을 도출하였다. 환원슬래그는 초속경 시멘트에 대해 대체할 경우 속경성을 갖는 것으로 나타났으며, 대체율 15%까지는 동등하게 나타났다. 전기로 산화슬래그는 천연 골재에 대해 100% 대체하여도 동등한 특성을 갖는 것으로 나타났으며, 이런 전기로 산화슬래그에 대해서 실리콘 망간 슬래그를 대체할 경우 15-30%까지 대체가 가능한 것으로 나타났다. 이상의 배합으로 도로용 긴급 보수 모르타르의 배합 설계가 가능하였다. 이런 슬래그를 재활용은 시멘트와 천연 골재의 사용량을 저감시켜 이산화탄소 발생의 감소와 폐기물인 슬래그를 재활용으로 녹색 산업에 이바지가 가능하다.

막결합 축전식 탈염장치를 이용한 혼합용액에서 칼슘이온의 선택적 제거 (Selective Removal of Calcium Ions from a Mixed Solution using Membrane Capacitive Seionization System)

  • 막결합 축전식 탈염(MCDI) 기술을 이용하여 $Na^{+}$$Ca^{2+}$ 이온이 혼합된 용액에서 $Ca^{2+}$ 이온의 선택적 제거 가능성을 연구하였다. 양이온교환막인 CMX막에 대한 $Ca^{2+}$ 이온의 선택성을 확인하기 위해 흡착평형 실험을 실시하였다. 그리고 MCDI 셀을 이용해 혼합용액(5 meq/L NaCl + 2 meq/L $CaCl_{2}$)에 대한 탈염실험을 수행하였다. 흡착평형 실험결과 용액과 CMX막에서 $Ca^{2+}$ 이온의 당량분율은 각각 28.6, 87.2%를 보여 CMX막이 $Ca^{2+}$ 이온에 대해 높은 선택성을 갖는 것을 확인하였다. MCDI 셀에 일정한 전류를 인가하면서 셀 전위가 1.0 V에 도달할 때까지 탈염실험을 실시하였다. 그 결과 흡착된 이온의 총량은 인가한 전류밀도에 큰 영향을 받지 않고 일정하였다. 그러나 흡착된 이온 중 $Ca^{2+}$ 이온의 비율은 전류밀도에 반비례하였으며 200, 300, 500, $700\;A/m^{2}$의 전류밀도에서 각각 81.4, 78.4, 77.0, 74.5%로 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 낮은 전류밀도에서 CMX막에 흡착된 $Ca^{2+}$ 이온의 비율이 높았기 때문인 것으로 판단된다.
