The severity of the global climate crisis is increasing due to greenhouse gases caused by human activities. As a result, countries and industries are making efforts to reduce carbon dioxide emissions, the biggest cause of global warming. Many studies have been conducted to predict carbon emissions in the construction sector to reduce this, but they have not actually produced a highly usable formula in the field. Therefore, the two variables 'Curve Fitting' were performed based on the data of excavators and trucks measured at the field. As a result, we have obtained a carbon dioxide emission prediction model for construction equipment, and we would like to use it to help establish an eco-friendly process plan.
Continuous global warming is causing ecosystem destruction and direct damage to human life. The main cause of global warming is greenhouse gases, which account for more than 90 % of carbon dioxide. The leaders of each country signed the Paris Agreement at the United Nations Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Currently, the total amount of CO2 emitted from South Korea is 664.7 million tons as of 2018, ranking eighth in the world. 37 % of South Korea's total CO2 emissions come from the construction & building field, especially the cement production, which is a construction material. Carbon reduction technologies can be largely divided into four types: carbon reduction (CC), carbon reduction and storage technology (CCS), carbon reduction and utilization technology (CCU), and carbon reduction, storage and utilization technology (CCUS). Overseas, CCUS technology is mainly applied to reduce and store CO2 emitted from construction and construction field. A technology for permanently storing CO2 through mineralization by capturing CO2 and utilizing CO2 into a cement production process was developed, and this technology is applied to the entire cement industry. However, the development of CCUS technology applicable to the cement industry is still insignificant in South Korea. In this study, carbon dioxide reduction technology and methods for reducing carbon dioxide emitted during the cement manufacturing process, which is the main component of concrete mainly used in civil engineering construction, were investigated. Overseas, it has reached the commercialization stage beyond the demonstration stage as a way to reduce carbon dioxide by vomiting carbonation reactions. Accordingly, if carbon dioxide reduction plan technology generated during cement manufacturing is developed based on domestic technology differentiated from foreign technology, it is expected to contribute one more step to the carbon neutrality policy.
Global warming has become a major issue all over the world. Noting the carbon dioxide emissions as a main contributor to global warming, we studied on the methods to reduce the life cycle building carbon emissions. Green Building Certification Criteria(GBCC) has been implemented since 2002 in Korea, but it doesn't estimate the quantities of the $CO_2$ emissions. Therefore, we studied the ways to implement the $CO_2$ emissions in quantity to GBCC. We select a government building which was rated excellent by the GBCC. This office building was regarded to excellent building by GBCC but not good for energy consumption. It was found energy glutton buildings for research by the Ministry of Public Administration and Security in 2010. This part of GBCC is need to be improved.. Also LCA (Life Cycle assessment) was carried out to estimate on carbon footprint on this office building. So we need to implementing quantitative evaluation on the amount of carbon emissions by GBCC. And it is possible to implementing quantitative evaluation on the amount of carbon emissions. Through this study, we expect that quantitative assessment of life cycle carbon emissions of buildings by the GBCC. Also expect to reduce the carbon emissions of the building by improving the GBCC.
This study aimed to evaluate the effects of probiotics as manure additives on pathogen, mineral, carbon dioxide and methane emissions in pig slurry as a function of time and provide information about the importance of pig slurry management to pig producers. An experiment was a completely randomized design and four treatments: CON: no treatment (5 kg pig slurry), T1: 5 kg pig slurry + 0.2% bacillus subtilis, T2: 5 kg pig slurry + 0.2% yeast, T3: 5 kg pig slurry + 0.2% actinomycetales. All treatments were replicated three times. The results information that is analyzed includes the following: First, in spite of the lack of statistically significant differences, pH values and carbon dioxide were lowered (P < 0.05) in all probiotic treatments compared with the controls as a function of time. Second, all probiotic treatments had no effect on Salmonella enterica, mineral, and methane emission. The results of this study indicated that addition of 0.2% probiotic to pig slurry resulted in lower pH and carbon dioxide emissions, and carbon dioxide and methane emitted from pig slurry is not listed as noxious gases.
The International Energy Agency(IEA) recommends that intergovernmental agreements reduce CO2 emissions by 2050 to about 50% in 2005 in its report. To realize these demands, it is suggested to actively utilize energy efficiency improvement technology, renewable energy, nuclear power, carbon dioxide capture & storage technology (CCS). In the field of building materials and cement, mineral carbonization technology is widely used. Inorganic by-products applicable to greenhouse gas storage include waste concrete, slag, coal ash, and gypsum. If the Mineral Carbonation Act is used, it is expected that about 12 million tons of greenhouse gases can be immobilized every year. Greenhouse gas immobilization using cement hydrate can be immobilized by injecting carbon dioxide into the hydrated products C-S-H, and Ca(OH)2. In the case of immobilization through concrete carbonization, a carbon dioxide promotion test is used, which is often different from the actual carbon dioxide carbonization reaction. If the external carbon dioxide concentration is abnormally higher than the reality, it is thought that it will be different from the actual reaction. In this study, the carbonation phenomenon according to the concentration and identification of the carbon dioxide reaction mechanism of cement hydrate was to be considered.
Wetlands are one of the most vital natural habitats on the planet. India is incredibly blessed to have a number of multifunctional wetland ecosystems. Wetlands, in addition to their functional importance, can act as sources or sinks for greenhouse gases (GHGs) depending on their intrinsic factors. Carbon (CO2) and Methane (CH4) are the major greenhouse gases (GHG's) emitted in wetlands. It is demonstrated that, despite having 4.6 percent of its area covered by natural or man-made wetlands, being home to a large number of wetlands, and being the world's second largest cultivator of paddy, India's wetlands, including paddy fields that are intermittently flooded as typical wetlands, have been very poorly studied in terms of GHG emissions. The purpose of this paper is to examine the status of Indian wetlands and wetlands in terms of CH4 and CO2 emissions. The present study also reviews various literature to provide the equations, parameters that are required for estimating carbon and methane and some of the best strategies for conserving carbon in wetlands. The findings suggest that both non-manipulative and manipulative measures can be used to improve Carbon Sequestration (CS). Non-manipulative measures aim to improve CS by increasing the spatial extent of wetlands, whereas manipulative measures aim to change the characteristics of specific wetland components that influence CS. Uncertainty in carbon dynamics projections under changing environmental conditions is caused by a number of Knowledge gaps: i) There is a lack of knowledge on how organic matter mineralizes and partitions into carbon dioxide, methane, and dissolved organic carbon, ii) With the notable exception of methane dynamics, models that represent the dynamic interaction of processes and their controls have yet to be established. As a result, more research is needed to fully understand the importance of wetlands in terms of GHG emissions and carbon sequestration in India.
This study investigates the relationship between economic growth, energy consumption, trade openness, population density, and carbon dioxide ($CO_2$) emissions in Bangladesh for the period of 1975 to 2013. It applies the Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) bounds testing approach to cointegration for establishing the existence of a long-run relationship. The bounds tests suggest that the variables of interest are bound together in the long-run when $CO_2$ emissions is the dependent variable. The results indicate that energy consumption has statistically significant positive effect on $CO_2$ emissions both in the short-run and long-run. The effect of population density is significant in long-run, but not in short-run. The estimated coefficients for economic growth and trade liberalization are negative and insignificant both in short-run and long-run. The paper suggests that the government of Bangladesh should undertake the policy actions to develop alternative energy sources which would not emit much $CO_2$.
● The current world is suffering abnormal climate caused by global warming. The main cause of global warming is greenhouse gas such as carbon dioxide. The carbon labeling system and carbon traceability system being pushed ahead in the agricultural sector is the policy for responding to climate change to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. To make this policy more effective and enhanced, the amount of carbon emissions should be calculated based on the kind of crops or the various businesses in the agricultural sector. Therefore, in order to estimate the accurate amount of carbon emissions, it is necessary to establish carbon dioxide emission intensity of various agricultural materials added onto the agriculture, and to calculate the amount of carbon dioxide emission for each crop according to agricultural production. The purpose of this study is to establish the amount of emission, emission per agricultural materials, of agricultural materials being added for crop production as a basic step, and emission intensity which can be used in the future market in order to estimate accurate amount of carbon emission in all the policies being promoted in the agricultural sector. Therefore, in this study, in order to build LCI D/B about organic fertilizers among many organic materials added onto the organic agriculture sector, one leading company in organic fertilizer production was selected and LCA was conducted for this leading company. We had to build the intensity and integrated average concept of intensity upon the two cases once production farmers for their own consumption and farms besides organic fertilizer company were categorized even if it's little amount. But in this study, individually produced organic fertilizers were excluded. Calculated results are following. Carbon emission of mixed expeller cake fertilizer in organic fertilizer was 1,106,966.89kg-$CO^2$ and emission intensity was 0.01606kg-$CO^2$, respectively. Total emission of mixed organic fertilizers was 241,523.2kg-$CO^2$ and emission intensity was 0.01705kg-$CO^2$. And total emission of organic compound fertilizers was 94,592.66kg-$CO^2$ and emission intensity was 0.01769kg-$CO^2$, respectively.
In this study, the variations of the carbon dioxide fluxes were investigated with soil temperatures in the grassplot and seasonal variations of carbon dioxide concentrations and fluxes were analysed. Soil temperatures, carbon dioxide concentrations and fluxes were measured on the grassplot in Pukyong National University. Field measurements were carried out 25 times from March in 2010 to March in 2011 with nine points on the grassplot. Seasonal variations of carbon dioxide concentrations and fluxes showed an inverse relation. In summer, carbon dioxide concentrations are lower and carbon dioxide fluxes are higher. In winter, carbon dioxide concentrations are higher and carbon dioxide fluxes are lower. On the grassplot, carbon dioxide emission rate increase when the soil temperature is more than $20^{\circ}C$ and the emission rate decrease when the soil temperatures are less than $10^{\circ}C$. When the accumulated rainfall for five days before measurement day is 20~100 mm, it is showed that the more rainfall, the more carbon dioxide emissions. Carbon dioxide emission rate from the grassplot to the upper atmosphere was increased or decreased by the factors such as soil temperature, growth and wither of grass and rainfall. The results of this study showed that the emission of carbon dioxide in the grassplot is dominantly controlled by seasonal factors (especially soil temperature and rainfall).
Through the industrial revolution that began in the 18th century, the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere increased rapidly as humans used fossil energy such as coal and oil as fuel for steam engines and factory machines. The amount of carbon dioxide emitted while producing cement, the main material of concrete used in construction, is large enough to account for 5-8% of the world's carbon dioxide emissions. In this study, Non cement-based matrix were used to reduce carbon dioxide emissions from cement production. Red mud is an industrial by-product generated in the manufacturing process of aluminum hydroxide using bauxite, and more than 120 million tons are produced worldwide. In addition, red mud is a porous material that can be physically adsorbed, and causes a photocatalytic reaction of TiO2 to remove harmful substances such as nitrogen oxide formaldehyde in the air and chemically adsorbs ammonia and hydrogen sulfide. Therefore, this study aims to examine the physical properties of the matrix by mixing red mud, an industrial by-product with good adsorption performance, into the Non cement-based matrix.
