Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are attractive for field emitter because of their outstanding electrical, mechanical, and chemical properties. Several applications using CNTs as field emitters have been demonstrated such as field emission display (FED), backlight unit (BLU), and X-ray source. In this study, we fabricated a CNT cathode using transparent ultra-thin CNT film. First, CNT aqueous solution was prepared by ultrasonically dispersing purified single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) in deionized water with sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS). To obtain the CNT film, the CNT solution in a milliliter or even several tens of micro-litters was deposited onto a porous alumina membrane through vacuum filtration process. Thereafter, the alumina membrane was solvated by the 3 M NaOH solution and the floating CNT film was easily transferred to an indium-tin-oxide (ITO) glass substrate of $0.5\times0.5cm^2$ with a film mask. The transmittance of as-prepared ultra-thin CNT films measured by UV-Vis spectrophotometer was 68~97%, depending on the amount of CNTs dispersed in an aqueous solution. Roller activation, which is a essential process to improve the field emission characteristics of CNT films, increased the UV-Vis transmittance up to 93~98%. This study presents SEM morphology of CNT emitters and their field emission properties according to the concentration of CNTs in an aqueous solutions. Since the ultra-thin CNT emitters prepared from the solutions show a high peak current density of field emission comparable to that of the paste-base CNT emitters and do not contain outgassing sources such as organic binders, they are considered to be very promising for small-size-but-high-end applications including X-ray sources and microwave power amplifiers.

Many practical applications of carbon nanotubes(CNTs) have been proposed and there have been attempts to utilize CNT films as transparent electrodes for solar cells and displays. Our group has considered the use of the CNT film as a thin film heater (TFH) and proposed it for the first time and reported the thermal behavior of the TFH made of single walled CNTs. However, due to the relatively high electrical resistance of the CNT film, using the TFH in application areas requiring high heat flux has been a difficult problem. To overcome this obstacle, we adopted a 'branch electrodes' concept to increase the film conductance dramatically. If two branch electrodes are inserted into a TFH whose original electrical resistance is R, the total resistance will be reduced to R/9. Because of the increased aspect ratio, the resistance of each segmented TFH will be reduced to R/3. Furthermore, since they are connected in parallel, the total resistance reduces to R/9. This could be extended to n branch electrodes, and the total resistance of the film will be reduced to R/(n+1)2, if the resistance of electrodes are negligibly small. We fabricated the heaters with different number of branch electrodes. The number of branch electrodes of the fabricated heaters are 0, 2, 4, 8 and their electrical resistance are 101.4, 39.5, 20.0, $15.4{\Omega}$, respectively. We applied 20V to each heater and monitored the temperature variations. We could achieve high heating temperature even with low voltage supply. This technique could be applied to relevant industrial applications which need high power film heater.

Multi -walled carbon nanotube(MWNT)/poly(methyl methacrylate) composites were fabricate d through film casting. Manufacturing process was established using a ultrasonic cleaner and a homogenizer. Acetone was used as a solvent to melt PMMA and mix with MWNT. The ultrasonic cleaner performed an important role in producing MWNT/MMA nanocomposites. Ultrasonic energy was utilized to disperse MWNT in acetone. Also, melting PMMA in acetone and mixing MWNT and PMMA were achieved using the homogenizer. It was confirmed that the nanohlbes were well dispersed in PMMA according to SEM images.
We developed a novel growth method of aligned carbon nanotubes. Aligned carbon nanotubes are grown on a metal catalyst on a glass substrate using biased Helicon plasma chemical vapor deposition (HPECVD) of $CH_4/H_2$ gases from 400 C to 500 C. The Helicon plasma source is one of the high-density plasma sources and is promising for low temperature carbon deposition. A Ni film was used as a catalyst to reduce the activation energy of the nanotubes' growth. The carbon nanotubes were deposited on the nickel catalysis layer selectively.

We present the fabrication and characterization of transparent carbon nanotube film (CNF) piezoresistors. CNFs were fabricated by vacuum filtration methods with 65?92% transmittance and patterned on Au-deposited silicon wafer by photolithography and dry etching. The patterned CNFs were transferred onto poly-dimethysiloxane (PDMS) using the weak adhesion property between the silicon wafer and the Au layer. The transferred CNFs were confirmed to be piezoresistors using the equation of concentrated-force-derived resistance change. The gauge factor of the CNFs was measured to range from 10 to 20 as the resistance of the CNFs increased with applied pressure. In polymer microelectromechanical systems, CNF piezoresistors are the promising materials because of their high sensitivity and low-temperature process.
In this study, we investigated a carbon nanotube (CNT) film sensor to detect hazardous and noxious substances distributed in seawater. The response change of the sensor was studied according to environmental temperature, and its temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR, α) was measured. The temperature of the CNT film (~50 ㎛) was in the range of 20-50 ℃, and αCNT was calculated to be -0.0011 %/ ℃. We experimentally confirmed that the CNT film had a smaller TCR value than that of the conventional sensor. Therefore, we investigated the response change of the CNT sensor according to temperature. The CNT sensor showed a relatively small error of approximately 2.3 % up to 30 ℃, which is within the temperature range of the seawater of the Korean Peninsula. However, when the temperature exceeded 40 ℃, the error in the CNT sensor increased by more than 5.2 %. We fabricated a metal oxide (ITO, indium-tin-oxide) film and compared its performance with that of the CNT sensor. The ITO sensor showed an error of >12.5 % at 30 ℃, indicating that in terms of the stability of the sensor to temperature, the CNT film sensor has superior performance.
^x Carbon nanotubes were grown on SiO$_2$/Si substrates by applying $C_2$H$_2$ gas through chemical vapor deposition process. It was found that carbon nanotubes were grown successfully on the substrates with catalytic films under 20 $\AA$ total thickness. The increase in reaction temperature from 50$0^{\circ}C$ to 80$0^{\circ}C$ resulted in longer carbon nanotube, but there was no clear tendencies with different types of catalytic layers. It was evident that carbon nanotubes became more straight on the substrate with Ni catalytic film produced by ICBD method.
The hydrogen gas sensing properties of a zinc oxide nanowire structure were studied. Porous zinc oxide nanowire structures were fabricated by oxidizing zinc deposited on a single-wall carbon nanotube (SWNT) template. This revealed a porous ZnO-SWNT composite due to the porosity in the SWNT film. The gas sensing properties were compared with those of zinc oxide thin films deposited on SiO2/Si substrates in sensitivity and operating temperature. The composite structure showed higher sensitivity and lower operating temperature than the zinc oxide film. It showed a response even at room temperature while the film structure did not.
A single-wall carbon nanotube (SWNT) transparent conductive film (TCF) was fabricated using a simple inkjet printing method. The TCF could be selectively patterned by controlling the dot size to diameters as small as $34\;{\mu}m$. In this repeatable and scalable process, we achieved 71% film transmittance and a resistance of 900 ohm/sq sheet with an excellent uniformity, about ${\pm}\;5%$ deviation overall. Inkjet printing of SWNT is substrate friendly and the TCF is printed on a flexible substrate. This method of fabrication using direct printing permits mass production of TCF in a large area process, reducing processing steps and yielding low-cost TCF fabrications on a designated area using simple printing.

Hetero-junction sheet actuator composed of carbon nanotubes and $V_{2}O_5$ nanowires were demonstrated in a bimetal configuration. The successive filtration of $V_{2}O_5$ nanowire solution followed by carbon nanotube dispersed water solution in the same way produced a dark-gray colored sheet. A significant actuation was observed in sodium chloride electrolyte solution with a bending direction to the carbon nanotube side at the positive bias voltage against the copper counter-electrode. As the frequency of the applied voltage increased, the amplitudes decreased, indicating a rather slow response of the hetero-film actuator in the electrolyte solution. The hybrid structure enabled an easy fabrication of the film actuator with the enhanced efficiencies.
