  • The cofiring of renewable fuel in coal fired boilers is an attractive option to mitigate $CO_2$ emissions, since it is relatively low cost option for efficiently converting renewable fuel to electricity by adding biomass as partial substitute of coal. However, it would lead to reduce plant efficiency and flexibility in operation, and increase operation cost and capital cost associated with renewable fuels handling and firing equipment. The aim of this study is to investigate reduction of carbon dioxide at varying percentage of biomass in fuel blend to the boiler biomass, and estimate operation and capital cost. Wood pellet, PKS (palm kernel shell), EFB (empty fruit bunch) and sludge are considered as a renewable fuels for a cofiring with coal. Several approaches by the cofiring ratio are chosen from past plant demonstrations and commercial cofiring operation, and they are evaluated and discussed for CO2 reduction and cost estimation.

  • There is a great demand for reducing the amount of material used in mass-produced plastics parts for material cost constitutes a large percentage of the total cost of a product up to 75% It may be noted that the price of plastics is directly related to the price of petroleum. Material reduction therefore decreases the amount of oil needed for the manufacture of plastics and thus help conserve this natural resource. Therefore microcellular foaming process(MCPs) was studied for solving this problems alternatively in 1980's at M. I. T. Until now in microcellular plastics processes carbon dioxide gas was mainly used for microcellular foaming Because carbon dioxide has more solubility than any other gases such as nitrogen gas or helium gas. The purpose of the this research is measurement of changing of the microcellular plastics' weight by using nitrogen gas in injection molding an comparing weight reduction of microcellular foamed plastics for using carbon dioxide gas with nitrogen gas.

  • Promising geological structures for carbon dioxide capture and subsurface storage include aquifers, depleted reservoirs, and gas fields. Among these, aquifers are gaining attention due to their potential for storing significant amounts of carbon dioxide compared to other geological structures. Therefore, there is a growing interest in enhancing carbon dioxide storage efficiency by understanding the characteristics of aquifers and developing technologies tailored to their properties. In this study, the storage efficiency of carbon dioxide injection following surfactant pre-injection into porous micro-models was evaluated. The results indicate that as the concentration of the surfactant solution injected prior to carbon dioxide injection increases, storage efficiency improves. Conversely, lower concentrations require more surfactant injection to enhance storage efficiency. Furthermore, under identical surfactant concentration conditions, the storage efficiency from surfactant pre-injection prior to supercritical carbon dioxide injection is approximately 30% lower compared to surfactant-co-solvent substitution as observed in previous studies. However, under the maximum concentration conditions investigated in this study, similar storage efficiencies to those of previous studies were achieved. These findings are expected to guide concentration determinations for surfactant application aimed at enhancing carbon dioxide storage efficiency in aquifers in future studies.

  • Experiments were conducted in a constant pressure combustion chamber using schlieren system to investigate the effects of carbon dioxide/nitrogen/helium diluents on cellular instabilities of syngas-air premixed flames at room temperature and elevated pressures. Laminar burning velocities and Markstein lengths were calculated by analyzing high-speed schlieren images at various diluent concentrations and equivalence ratios. Experimental results showed substantial reduction of the laminar burning velocities and of the Markstein lengths with the diluent additions in the fuel blends. Effective Lewis numbers of helium-diluted syngas-air flames increased but those of carbon dioxide- and nitrogen-diluted syngas-air flames decreased in increase of diluents in the reactant mixtures. With helium diluent, the propensity for cells formation was significantly diminished, whereas the cellular instabilities for carbon dioxide-diluted and nitrogen-diluted syngas-air flames were not suppressed.

  • Carbon dioxide was absorbed into the aqueous nanometer sized colloidal silica solution of 0-31 wt% and 2-amino-2-methyl-1-propanol of $0-2kmol/m^3$ in a flat-stirred vessel with the impeller of various sizes and speeds at $25^{\circ}C$ and 0.101 MPa to measure the absorption rate of $CO_2$. The volumetric liquid-side mass transfer coefficient$(k_La)\;of\;CO_2$ was used to obtain the empirical correlation formula containing the rheological behavior of the aqueous colloidal silica solution. Reduction of the measured $k_La$ was explained by the viscoelastic properties of the aqueous colloidal silica solution. The theoretical value of the absorption rate of $CO_2$ was estimated from the model based on the film theory accompanied by chemical reaction and compared with the measured value.

  • In the current construction market usage cement and aggregate is increasing continuously. This is progressing serious environmental pollution due to the carbon dioxide generated during cement production. Further, by using a large amount of aggregate, they tend to have even reduced natural resources. As a result, the reduction of carbon dioxide through the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, the energy saving has been positioned as a global trend. Therefore, in this study, instead of fine aggregate fix the cement, by the use to increase the proportion of the tidal flats, to try to reduce the amount of cement and fine aggregate. Accordingly, according to increasing the proportion of the mud flat be analyzed for properties the compressive strength, tensile strength, flow, chloride test, workability of the mortar.

  • An experimental study for characteristics of soot were conducted at the post-flame region in jet diffusion flames, where carbon dioxide was used as additives in oxidizer stream. Light-extinction method was performed using He-Ne laser with wave length at 632.8nm for the measurement of relative soot density and soot volume fraction with dimensionless extinction coefficient, $K_e$ and mass specific extinction coefficient, ${\sigma}_s$. To increase of resolution, laser light was modified for sheet-form using concave, convex lenses and slit. C/H ratio was introduced for quantitative analysis of soot growth which is expressed by carbonization and dehydrogen. Also transmission electron microscopy(TEM) was used for observation of morphological shape. The results show that the relative soot density in the post-flame region was lower when carbon dioxide was added in oxidizer stream because of reduction of flame temperature.

  • The carbon dioxide properties change sharply near the critical or pseudo-critical point in the heat transfer processes. The reduction in turbulent, convective heat transfer parameters observed in some supercritical data and in experiments with common gases can be due to property variation, acceleration, buoyancy or combinations of these phenomena, depending on the conditions of the applications. In this study, the measurement for the secondary flow driven by buoyancy was carried out on the supercritical carbon dioxide turbulent flows in the different boundary condition with the constant mass flow rate. The available measuring techniques were used to clarify the behaviour of any supercritical fluid. Laser Doppler Velocimeter (LDV) and a special device was used to measure the secondary velocity and turbulent characteristics of the supercritical flows.

  • Sustainable and eco-friendly polymers, natural polymers, bio-based polymers, and degradable polyesters, are of growing interest because of environmental concerns associated with waste plastics and emissions of carbon dioxide from preparation of petroleum-based polymers. Degradable polymers, poly(butylene adipate-co-terephthalate) (PBAT), poly(propylene carbonate) (PPC), and poly(L-lactic acid) (PLLA), are related to reduction of carbon dioxide in processing. To improve a weak mechanical property of a degradable polymer, a blending method is widely used. This study was forced on the component separation of degradable polymer blends for effective recycling. The melt-mixed blend films in a specific solvent were separated by two layers. Each layer was analysed by FT-IR, DSC, and contact angle measurements. The results showed that each component in the PPC/PLLA and PPC/PBAT blends was successfully separated by a solvent.
