  • Electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding is an important issue in modern daily life due to the increasing prevalence of electronic devices and their compact design. This study estimated EMI-shielding effect (EMI-SE) of small ($8-14{\times}17mm$) Hanji (Korean traditional paper) doped with carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and compared to Hanji without CNT using $^2H$ (92.1 MHz) and $^{23}Na$ (158.7 MHz) nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) peak area data obtained from 1 M NaCl in $D_2O$ samples in capillary tubes that were wrapped in the Hanji samples. The simpler method of using the variation of reflected power and tuning frequency by inserting the sample into an NMR coil was also tested at 242.9, 158.7, and 92.1 MHz. Overall, EMI shielding was relatively more effective at the higher frequencies. Our results validated that NMR methods to be useful to evaluate EMI-SE, particularly for small, flexible shielding materials, and demonstrated that EMI shielding by absorption is dominant in Hanji mixed with CNT.

  • Recently, wireless LAN are often applied in home or office because of its various of convenience. Frequency rage of wireless LAN specified by IEEE 802.11a is at 5.2 GHz and IEEE 802.11b is 2.4 GHz. But in offices with wireless LAN devices, reflection of waves against walls, ceilings, floors and desks made of metal creates multipath problems that reduce communication speed and lose data. These problems can be solved by using EM wave absorber. In this paper, we designed and fabricated EM wave absorbers using MnZn-ferrite, sendust, carbon and CPE(Chlorinated Polyethylene). The EM wave absorber with the ratio of MnZn-Ferrite : sendust : CPE=64 : 16 : 20 wt.% has thickness of 3.7 mm and absorption ability more than 17 dB at 2.4 GHz and the EM wave absorber with the ratio of MnZn-ferrite : carbon : CPE=40 : 15 : 45 wt.% has thickness of 3.8 mm and absorption ability more than 23 dB at 5.2 GHz.

  • This paper is to study the energy absorption characteristics of CF/Epoxy(Carbon Fiber/Epoxy Resin) laminated shell with the various curvatures subjected to transverse impact loadings under the low impact velocity in consideration of design of structural members for use of transportation machine, which are consisted of the characteristics of high stiffness, strength and lightweight. The curvature radius are associated with the energy absorption characteristics of CF/Epoxy laminated shell which is brittleness material. In all tests, maximum load of CF/Epoxy laminated plate is higher than that of laminated shell with curvature, but maximum deflection is lower. And then absorbed energy of laminated shell with curvature is higher than laminated plate(curvature radius is unlimited), As curvature radius is increased, the absorbed energy is increased in laminated shell with curvature.

  • This paper presents an investigation of the energy absorption of composite laminates during ballistic impact. Three components are responsible for the absorption of energy-the tensile failure of fiber, the elastic deformation of the composite, the delamination of composite laminates. The ballistic limit, V/sub 0/, of the laminates is determined using a previous model implemented to determine the energy absorption of the three components listed above. The size of the deformed zone during impact was estimated by an approximate solution for impacts on plates. The carbon/epoxy plates were examined for this research.

  • Composites have wide applications in aerospace vehicles and automobiles because of the inherent flexibility in their design for improved material properties. Composite tribes in particular, are potential candidates for their use as energy absorbing elements in crashworthiness applications due to their high specific energy absorbing capacity and the stroke efficiency. Their failure mechanism however is highly complicated and rather difficult to analyze. This includes fracture in fibres, in the matrix and in the fibre-matrix interface in tension, compression and shear. The purpose of this study is to investigate the energy absorption characteristics of CFRP(Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastics) tubes on static and impact tests. Static compression tests have been carried out using the static testing machine and impact tests have been carried out using the vertical crushing testing machine. Interlaminar number affect the energy absorption capability of CFRP tubes. Also, theoretical and experimental have the same value.

  • Because of the inherent flexibility in their design for improved material properties, composites have wide applications in aerospace vehicles and automobiles. The purpose of this study is to investigate the energy absorption characteristics of CFRf (Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastics) tubes on static and impact tests. Static compression tests have been carried out using the static testing machine(Shin-gang buckling testing machine) and impact compression tests have been carried out using the vertical crushing testing machine. When such tubes were subjected to crushing loads, the response is complex and depends on the interaction between the different mechanisms that control the crushing process. The collapse characteristics and energy absorption were examined. Trigger and interlaminar number affect the energy absorption capability of CFRP tubes.

  • We suggest a cast Alnico magnet as a new microwave absorber. The proposed Alnico microwave absorber shows advanced microwave absorption properties of 24 dB at 13.3 GHz for the thicknesses of 1 mm We also investigated the effects of the carbon, which qjfects strongly to microwave absorption in Alnico magnet microwave absorbers. Central frequency shifts toward lower frequency with increasing Alnico content which is related to the frequency to show tan 8 > 1. Also, we investigated the sample thickness dependence on the microwave absorption properties.

  • It is important to satisfy the requirements and standards for the protections of passengers in a car accident. There are lots of studies on the crushing energy absorption of structure members in automobiles. We have investigated collapse characteristics and moisture absorption movements of CFRP(Carbon Fiber Reinforced Plastics) hat shaped sectional members when CFRP laminates are under the hygrothermal environment. The absorbed energy, mean collapse load and deformation mode were analyzed for side members which absorbed most of the collision energy. Therefore we have made a static collapse experiment to research into the difference of absorbed energy and deformation mode between moisture absorbed specimen and non-moisture absorbed specimen.

  • Increasing emission of $CO_2$ significantly effects the global warming. Chemical absorption is one of separation methods of $CO_2$ from the industrial flue gases. In this study, the $CO_2$ removal efficiency as well as the $CO_2$ absorption amount of aqueous AMP (2-amino-2-methyl-1-propanol) solutions were measured using the continuous absorption and regeneration apparatus. We investigated the effect of aqueous AMP+AEPD(2-amino-2-ethyl-1, 3-propanediol) and AMP+TIPA (triisopropanolamine) solutions to enhance absorption characteristics of AMP. As a result of this study, the absorption amount and $CO_2$ removal efficiency were increased with adding TIPA into 30 wt.% AMP. The absorption amount and $CO_2$ removal efficiency of aqueous 30 wt.% AMP+5 wt.% TIPA solution were $1.70\;kg-CO_2/kg-absorbent$ and 91.1%, while those of aqueous 30 wt.% AMP solution were $1.58\;kg-CO_2/kg-absorbent$ and 89.3%. In addition, aqueous 30 wt.% AMP+5 wt.% TIPA solution used in the study revealed the high stripping efficiency, which was almost 98%, at the temperature of $110^{\circ}C$. Thus, the temperature of regenerator should be operated at $110^{\circ}C$.

  • DC and AC electrical conductivity and electromagnetic interference shielding effectiveness of milled carbon fiber/nylon composites were investigated with the kind of nylon matrix. Percolation transition at which the conductivity is sharply increased was observed at about 7 vol% of milled carbon fiber. Nylon 46 as a matrix was more effective to obtain high electrical conductivity than nylon 6, and the difference in conductivity was occurred by the treatment of coupling agent. Frequency dependence of AC conductivity could be explained by relaxation phenomenon at just below percolation and resonance phenomenon at 40 vol% of carbon fiber, respectively. Negative temperature coefficient phenomenon was found in all composites. Electromagnetic interference shielding effectiveness was increased with the concentration of carbon fiber. At a high conductivity region the return loss was more dominant to the total shielding effectiveness than the absorption loss.
