초고에너지 볼 밀링공정에 의한 (Hf-Ti-Ta-Zr-Nb)C 고엔트로피 카바이드 분말 제조 및 미세화 거동 (Preparation and Refinement Behavior of (Hf-Ti-Ta-Zr-Nb)C High-Entropy Carbide Powders by Ultra High Energy Ball Milling Process)

  • Recently, high-entropy carbides have attracted considerable attention owing to their excellent physical and chemical properties such as high hardness, fracture toughness, and conductivity. However, as an emerging class of novel materials, the synthesis methods, performance, and applications of high-entropy carbides have ample scope for further development. In this study, equiatomic (Hf-Ti-Ta-Zr-Nb)C high-entropy carbide powders have been prepared by an ultrahigh-energy ball-milling (UHEBM) process with different milling times (1, 5, 15, 30, and 60 min). Further, their refinement behavior and high-entropy synthesis potential have been investigated. With an increase in the milling time, the particle size rapidly reduces (under sub-micrometer size) and homogeneous mixing of the prepared powder is observed. The distortions in the crystal lattice, which occur as a result of the refinement process and the multicomponent effect, are found to improve the sintering, thereby notably enhancing the formation of a single-phase solid solution (high-entropy). Herein, we present a procedure for the bulk synthesis of highly pure, dense, and uniform FCC single-phase (Fm3m crystal structure) (Hf-Ti-Ta-Zr-Nb)C high-entropy carbide using a milling time of 60 min and a sintering temperature of 1,600℃.

3Y-TZP/WC 복합체의 소결 방식에 따른 특성비교 (Comparison of Properties with Different Sintering Process of 3Y-TZP/WC Composites)

  • 3Y-TZP ceramics obtained by doping 3 mol.% of Y2O3 to ZrO2 to stabilize the phase transition are widely used in the engineering ceramic industry due to their excellent mechanical properties such as high strength, fracture toughness, and wear resistance. An additional increase in mechanical properties is possible by manufacturing a composite in which a high-hardness material such as oxide or carbide is added to the 3Y-TZP matrix. In this study, composite powder was prepared by dispersing a designated percentage of WC in the 3Y-TZP matrix, and the results were compared after manufacturing the composite using the different processes of spark plasma sintering and HP. The difference between the densification behavior and porosity with the process mechanism was investigated. The correlation between the process conditions and phase formation was examined based on the crystalline phase formation behavior. Changes to the microstructure according to the process conditions were compared using field-emission scanning electron microscopy. The toughness-strengthening mechanism of the composite with densification and phase formation was also investigated.

Hematite系 微粉鑛石을 사용한 $CO-H_2$ 混合 Gas에 의한 高炭化鐵의 合成 (Synthesis of Super Iron Carbide from Hematite Fines with $CO-H_2$ Gas Mixture)

  • 탄화철을 합성하는 공정을 수소($H_2$) 환원과 $CO-H_2$ 혼합가스에 의한 탄화의 2단계 과정으로 나누어서 수행했다. 환원종료 후 미량의 암모니아 가스를 첨가하여 환원철의 표면을 개질한 후, 탄화시간 경과별 탄화상태를 C/S 분석기(Low C/S determinator), 뫼스바우어 분광 분석기(Mossbauer spectroscopy), XRD(X-ray diffraction patterns), SEM(Scanning electron microscopy), TEM(Transmission electron microscopy), XPS(Photoelectron spectroscopy), 및 라만분광기 (Raman spectroscopy)를 사용하여 조사하였다. 연구결과, 미량의 암모니아가스로 환원철 표면을 개질함으로써 탄화철의 분해 및 유리탄소의 석출을 방지할 수 있을 뿐만아니라 6.68wt% 이상 10wt% 까지 탄소가 과고용된 상태에서도 분해되거나 유리탄소를 석출하지 않고 안정상태를 유지하였다. 이러한 결과로부터 철(Fe)과 세멘타이트(cementite, $Fe_3C$)가 혼합되지 않고 고탄화철(SIC, super iron carbide)인 Fe5C2 상태의 안정한 단일상을 얻는데 성공하였다.

구봉석회석광산의 지질조사보고(地質調査報告) (Geologic Report on the Goobong Limestone Mine)

  • The purpose of this report is to prepare a data for the economic evaluation on the Goobong Limestone Mine which is located at the south-eastern corner of the Yongchun Quadrangle scaled in 1:50,000. The accessibility from the mine to railroad was considered in two ways. One is to Dodam Station on Central Railway Line and the other is to reach Songjung-ni village which is near Sangyong Station on Hamback Railway Line. The distance of the former way is 26.7km and the later is 24.2km. Geologically the mine is situated near the base of the Greast Limestone Series which strikes generally $N25^{\circ}{\sim}30^{\circ}E$. The series comprises six different formations from older to younger; Pungchon Limestone Formation and Whajol Formation of Cambrian age, and Dongjum Quartzite Formation, Dumudong Formation, Maggol Limestone Formation and Goseong Formation of lower to middle Ordovician age. 82 samples; 48 from Pungchon Limestone Formation, 11 from Dumudong Formation, 15 from Maggol Limestone Formation and 8 from Goseong Formation, were taken from the series in the crossed direction to the general trend of the series as shown in geological map. They were chemically analyzed on the components of CaO, MgO, $SiO_2$, $R_2O_3(Al_2O_3+Fe_2O_3)$ and ignition loss as shown in table 2, table 3, table 4, and table 5. As seen from the tables, among the formations of the series, middle to upper parts of the Pungchon Limestone Formation and middle and upper parts of the Dumudong Formation have chemical composition as available source for the raw material of cement industry, not only that but also the part of the Pungchon Formation was highly evaluated as source for the flux of iron smelting and the raw material of carbide manufacturing because of its high purity of calcium carbonate.

에치슨법에 의한 탄화규소 휘스카의 성장과 특성분석 (Formation and Characterization of Silicon Carbide Whiskers by Acheson Method)

  • Whiskers of SiC were grown from the mixture of silica and graphite powders by Acheson method(direct heating method). The structrua, morphological and chemical characterizations have been performed by X-ray diffractometer(XRD), transmission electron microscopy(TEM), optical microscopy(OM), scanning electron microscopy(SEM), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS) and energy dispersive spectrometer(EDS). The growth mechanism of SiC whiskers is also discussed.

  • Microwave Plasma assisted CVD (Chemical Vapor Deposition) and DC Plasma CVD were used to prepare thin and thick diamond film, respectively. Diamond coated silicon nitride and fiee standing diamond thick film were eroded by silicon carbide particles. The velocity of the solid particle was about 220m/sec. Phase transformation and the other crack formation were investigated by using Raman spectroscopy and microscopy.

  • The characteristics of various important microstructural factors of WC-base hard- metals (cemented carbides) such as the amount of Co metal binder phase, the carbide grain size, the microstructural defects acting as a fracture source, the solid solubility of tungsten in the binder phase affected by the carbon content, the precipitation of $Co_3W$, the domain size of binder phase, the formation of ${\beta}-free$ layer or Co-rich layer and CVD or PVD coated layer, and the effects of these factors on the flexural strength of the hardmetals are reviewed.

9-12% Cr강의 용접부에 미치는 δ-ferrite의 영향 (The Effects of δ-ferrite on Weldment of 9-12% Cr Steels)

  • As the energy consumption increases rapidly, power generation needs the high energy efficiency continuously. To achieve the high efficiency of power generation, the materials used have to endure the higher temperature and pressure. The 9-12%Cr steels possess good mechanical properties, corrosion resistance, and creep strength in high temperature due to high Cr contents. Therefore, the 9-12%Cr steels are widely used for the high-temperature components in power plants. Even though the steels usually have a fully martensitic microstructure, they are susceptible to the formation of ${\delta}$-ferrite specifically during the welding process. The formation of ${\delta}$-ferrite has several detrimental effects on creep, ductility and toughness. Therefore, it is necessary to avoid its formation. As the volume fraction of ${\delta}$-ferrite is less than 2% in microstructure, it has the isolated island morphology and causes no significant degradation on mechanical properties. For ${\delta}$-ferrite above 2%, it has a polygonal shape affecting the detrimental influence on the mechanical properties. The formation of ${\delta}$-ferrite is affected by two factors: a chemical composition and a welding heat input. The most effective ways to get a fully martensite microstructure are to reduce the chromium equivalent less than 13.5, to keep the difference between the chromium and nickel equivalent less than 8, and to reduce the welding heat input.

성형미세구조가 반응소결 탄화규소체의 소결미세구조 및 기계적 특성에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Green Microstructure on Sintered Microstructure and Mechanical Properties of Reaction-Bonded Silicon Carbide)

  • 탄화규소와 카본의 이성분계에서 pH, 계면활성제 및 출발원료의 입도 분포를 이용하여 성형체의 기공크기 및 기공을 제어에 관한 연구를 수행하였다. 성형체는 각각 다른 분산조건을 가지는 슬러리를 이장성형법을 이용하여 제조하였으며, 입자간의 응\ulcorner제어에 따른 상이한 성형미세구조를 가지도록 하였다. 제조된 성형체에 대하여 반응소결 공정은 1$600^{\circ}C$, 진공분위기에서 20분간 응용 실리콘 침윤 공정을 행하였다. 초기 성형 미세구조가 반응소결체의 미세구조에 미치는 영향을 관찰하기 위하여 광학 현미경 및 SEM 분석을 통하여 제조된 소결체의 미세구조를 분석하였으며, 그리고 이에 따른 반응 소결체의 기계적 특성을 평가하였다. 각각의 분산조건에 따라 성형미세구조는 다르게 나타났으며, 미세한 탄화규소를 입자를 사용하였을 경우에 기공크기가 현저하게 작아짐을 확인하였다. 제조된 반응소결체의 미세구조 분석결과 일반적인 반응소결 탄화수소에서 발견되는 bimodal 미세구조는 관찰되지 않았으며, 이는 초기 탄화규소의 카본의 비가 중요항 변수인 것으로 분석하였다. 반응소결 탄화규소의 3-점 곡강도 값은 입자간의 분산이 잘 이루어진 성형체를 사용하였을 경우 310$\pm$40 MPa으로서 응집이 일어난 성형체를 사용한 반응소결체의 260$\pm$50MPa 보다 높았다.

IN792+Hf 초내열합금의 응고거동에 미치는 응고속도의 영향 (The Effect of Solidification Rate on Solidification Behavior in IN792+Hf Superalloy)

  • 일방향응고법으로 IN792+Hf 초내열합금의 응고속도에 따른 응고거동의 변화에 대해 연구하였다. 조직관찰을 통해 각 상의 응고과정과 석출거동을 분석하였다 일방향응고시 응고속도가 감소하면 문자형의 탄화물은 면상 탄화물로 변화하였고 ${\gamma}$상과 탄화물의 결합은 탄화물의 수지상 성장에 의한 것임을 확인할 수 있었다. 긴 막대형상의 탄화물이 0.5$\mu\textrm{m}$/s의 응고속도에서 입계를 따라 형성되었으며 잔류액상지역에서 ${\gamma}$'형성원소가 풍부한 구역과 고갈된 구역이 발견되었다. 공정 ${\gamma}$/${\gamma}$'은 형성원소가 풍부한 구역에서 핵생성하였으며 공정 ${\gamma}$/${\gamma}$'의 형성은 잔류액상지역의 (Ti+Hf+Ta+W)/Al 비율을 높여 η상의 석출을 유발하였다. 느린 응고속도에서는 잔류액상지역으로부터의 충분한 역확산으로 (Ti+Hf+Ta+W)/Al 비율이 낮아져 η상의 석출이 억제되었다.
