This paper presents an adaptive variable weights tuning system for an integrated chassis control with electronic stability control (ESC) and active front steering (AFS) for lateral stability enhancement. After calculating the control yaw moment needed to stabilize a vehicle with a controller design method, it is distributed into the tire forces generated by ESC and AFS using weighted pseudo-inverse-based control allocation (WPCA). On a low friction road, lateral stability can deteriorate due to high vehicle speed. To cope with the problem, adaptive tuning rules on variable weights of the WPCA are proposed. To check the effectiveness of the proposed method, a simulation was performed on the vehicle simulation package, CarSim.

This paper presents an integrated chassis control system with fail safety using optimum yaw moment distribution for a vehicle with steer-by-wire and brake-by-wire devices. The proposed system has two-level structure: upper- and lower-level controllers. In the upper-level controller, the control yaw moment is computed with sliding mode control theory. In the lower-level controller, the control yaw moment is distributed into the tire forces of active front steering(AFS) and electronic stability control(ESC) with the weighted pseudo-inverse based control allocation(WPCA) method. By setting the variable weights in WPCA, it is possible to take the sensor/actuator failure into account. In this framework, it is necessary to optimize the variables weights in order to enhance the yaw moment distribution. For this purpose, simulation-based tuning is proposed. To show the effectiveness of the proposed method, simulations are conducted on a vehicle simulation package, CarSim.

This paper presents a control strategy of 4 wheel drive (4WD) vehicles. Proposed control strategy has simple structure and can easily apply to various vehicles with low cost and time. It is consist of feedforward control for traction ability, fedback control for minimizing the wheel speed difference and yaw control for lateral stability. In addition, to integrate the traction and stability control, a blending function is applied. To evaluate the feasibility of the proposed control strategy, actual vehicle experiment is conducted after deciding the tuning parameter through the simulation. The simulation is accomplished by CarSim and Matlab/Simulink and the actual vehicle test is conducted using full size Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) equipped rear wheel based solenoid type 4WD device.

This paper presents a method to design a controller for active suspension with 1-DOF decoupled models. Three 1-DOF decoupled models describing vertical, roll and pitch motions are used to design a controller in order to generate a vertical force, roll and pitch moments, respectively. These control inputs are converted into active suspension forces with geometric relationship. To design a controller, a sliding mode control is adopted. Frequency domain analysis and simulation on vehicle simulation software, CarSim$^{(R)}$, show that the proposed method is effective for ride comfort.

This paper presents a near-minimum time path planning algorithm for autonomous driving. The problem of near-minimum time path planning is an optimization problem in which it is necessary to take into account not only the geometry of the circuit but also the dynamics of the vehicle. The path planning algorithm consists of a candidate path generation and a velocity optimization algorithm. The candidate path generation algorithm calculates the compromises between the shortest path and the path that allows the highest speeds to be achieved. The velocity optimization algorithm calculates the lap time of each candidate considering the vehicle driving performance and tire friction limit. By using the calculated path and velocity of each candidate, we calculate the lap times and search for a near-minimum time path. The proposed algorithm was evaluated via computer simulation using CarSim and Matlab/Simulink.

This paper presents an integrated chassis control with electronic stability control (ESC) and active front steering (AFS) under lateral force constraint on AFS. The control yaw moment is calculated using a sliding mode control. The tire forces generated by ESC and AFS are determined using weighted pseudo-inverse based control allocation (WPCA) in order to generate the control yaw moment. On a low friction road, AFS is not effective when the lateral tire forces of front wheels are easily saturated. To solve problem, the lateral force of AFS is limited to its maximum and the braking of ESC is applied with WPCA. To evaluate the effectiveness of the proposed method, a simulation was performed on the vehicle simulation package, $CarSim^{(R)}$. From the simulation, it was verified that the proposed method could enhance the maneuverability and lateral stability if the lateral force of AFS exceeds its maximum.
The simulation analysis of fire-driven flow and passenger evacuation in Daegu subway station, Chung-Ang, have been performed. The first location of outbreak of fire is inside passenger car in the third basement in Chung-Aug station, The smoke flow in the second and third basement has been analyzed using FLUENT 6.2. The CO (carbon monoxide) and temperature distribution in the train units and station platform have been obtained and transferred to input data for evacuation simulation. The highest temperature in the train units was 1500k. For the simulation of passenger evacuation, EXODUS has been used for whole basements (level 1${\sim}$level 3) in the station. Total number of people was assumed to be one thousand and 640 were placed inside train and 360 were placed outside train. In evacuation simulation, an average of 135 passengers were killed and an average time to evacuate takes 10min 19sec. The main evacuation routes used by passengers were investigated and the cause of death was identified by evacuation simulation.
As the vehicle electronic control technology quickly grows and becomes more sophisticated, a more efficient means than the traditional in-vehicle driving test is required for the design, testing, and tuning of electronic control units (ECU). For this purpose, the hardware-in-the-loop simulation (HILS) scheme is very promising, since significant portions of actual driving test procedures can be replaced by HIL simulation. The HILS incorporates hardware components in the numerical simulation environment, and this yields results with better credibility than pure numerical simulations can offer. In this study, a HILS system has been developed for ESP (Electronic Stability Program) ECUs. The system consists of the hardware component, which that includes the hydraulic brake mechanism and an ESP ECU, the software component, which virtually implements vehicle dynamics with visualization, and the interface component, which links these two parts together. The validity of HIL simulation is largely contingent upon the accuracy of the vehicle model. To account for this, the HILS system in this research used the commercial software CarSim to generate a detailed full vehicle model, and its parameters were set by using design data, SPMD (Suspension Parameter Measurement Device) data, and data from actual vehicle tests. Using the developed HILS system, performance of a commercial ESP ECU was evaluated for a virtual vehicle under various driving conditions. This HILS system, with its reliability, will be used in various applications that include durability testing, benchmarking and comparison of commercial ECUs, and detection of fault and malfunction of ESP ECUs.

A parking-assist system is defined that a driver adjusts vehicle velocity through brake pedal operation and parking-assist system controls the motion of the vehicle to follow a collision-free path. In this study, a motion control algorithm using Fuzzy inference is proposed to track a maneuvering clothoid parallel path. Simulations are performed under SIMULINK environments using MATLAB and CarSim for a vehicle model. As the vehicle model in MATLAB a bicycle model is used including lateral dynamics. The simulation results show that the path tracking performance is satisfactory under various driving and initial conditions.

This paper presents a comparison among three types of approaches to an ARC (Active Roll Control) with an AARB(Active Anti-Roll Bar) for a vehicle system. Lateral acceleration and road profile are considered as disturbance. The ARC is designed with an LQ SOF (Linear Quadratic Static Output Feedback) control, $H_{\infty}$ control and SMC (Sliding Mode Control). These approaches are compared in terms of rollover prevention and ride comfort. For comparison, Bode plot analysis based on linear model and frequency response analysis based on CarSim simulation are performed.
