  • In this study, simulation works for a carbon dioxide capture process using solvent absorption method have been performed for decrease of regeneration energy in applying phase transition of liquid solvent. When carbon dioxide is dissolved in 30 wt% MEA solvent, liquid mixture divided into two phase according to mole loading of dissolved carbon dioxide. Using this phenomenon, we can decrease regeneration energy about 61% than primary absorber column-stripper column process.

  • As one of the main technologies for carbon capture and storage in power generation, oxy-coal combustion is being developed for field demonstration in Korea. This study presents the results of numerical simulation for combustion in a single-wall-fired 100 $MW_e$-scale boiler proposed for the initial design of the demonstration plant. Using a commercial CFD code, the detailed combustion, flow and heat transfer characteristics were assessed both for air-mode and oxy-mode combustion. The results show that stable combustion can be achieved in the dual mode operation with the current boiler configuration. However, the differences in the flow pattern and heat transfer between the two combustion modes need to be considered in the design and operation which is mainly due to the larger density and specific heat of $CO_2$ compared to $N_2$. Further development of the boiler design is required using improved numerical modeling for radiative heat transfer and combustion.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate lower-limb joint torque of the two groups as it changed by somatosensory stimulation during the descent down three stairs of different heights and to describe the difference between the two groups, which are young people group and elderly people group. Subjects of each groups climbed down a stair at four stimulation conditions, which are non-stimulation, tibialis anterior tendon stimulation, achilles tendon stimulation, tibialis anterior - achilles tendon stimulation. Motion capture data were collected using 3D optoelectric motion tracking system that utilizes active infrared LEDs, near infrared sensor and force plate. The obtained motion capture data was used to build 3D computer simulation model. The results show that lower-limb joint torque of the two groups changed with somatosensory stimulation as they descended the stairs and the joint torque of the two groups differed from each other.

  • This paper present a practical method for long-term voltage stability simulation based on a governor-response power flow. Governor-response power flow (GPF) is to model the long-term system response in the interval from 3 to 30 seconds after disturbance. In this paper, it is assumed that the GPF model ran capture the system state before load restoration starts in contingent conditions. This paper discusses the applicability of GPF to long-term simulation for voltage stability analysis and then explains the GPF formulation and the procedure of the proposed simulation. In addition the paper includes the simulation results with the modified New England 39-bus system.

  • The social activities of the elderly have been increasing as our society progresses toward an aging society. As their activities are increased, the occurrence of falls that could lead to fractures are increased. Falls are serious health hazards to the elderly and we need more thorough understanding of falls including the progress of falls and the impact area in various fall directions. Many of the traditional methods of falls research dealt with voluntary falls by younger subject since older subject can easily get fracture from voluntary falls. So, it has been difficult to get exact data about falls of the elderly. Here, we tried to capture the characteristics of the movements of major joints using three dimensional motion capture system during falls experiments using a moving mattress that can safely induce unexpected falls. Healthy younger subjects participated in the actual falls experiment and the moving mattress was actuated by a pneumatic system. The kinematic parameters such as velocities of major segments were imported to a computer simulation environment and falls to hard surfaces were simulated in a computational environment using a realistic human model of aged persons. The simulation was able to give approximations to contact forces which can occur during actual falls. And we designed impact absorption system to reduce the impact during falls. We can adapt this system to fracture prevention system that we are going to study.

  • This paper presents some of the results of a project whose aim has been to produce a full simulation model which would determine the efficacy of pesticides for use by both farmers and the bio-chemical industry. The work presented here describes how crop architecture can be mathematically modelled and how the mechanics of pesticide droplet capture can be simulated so that if a wind assisted droplet-trajectory model is assumed then droplet deposition patterns on crop surfaces can be predicted. This achievement, when combined with biological response models, will then enable the efficacy of pesticide use to be predicted.

  • We proposed a design technique for auto-landing guidance and control system. This technique utilizes linear controller and neural network. Main features of this technique is to use conventional linear controller and compensate for the error coming from the model uncertainties and/or reference model mismatch. In this study, the multi-perceptron neural network with single hidden layer is adopted to compensate for the errors. Glide-slope capture logic for auto-landing guidance and control system is designed in this technique. From the simulation results, it is observed that the responses of velocity and pitch angle to commands are fairly good, which are directly related to control inputs of throttle and elevator, respectively.

  • This paper deals with a design of nonlinear glide slope capture logic using dynamic model inversion in singular perturbation, which is applicable to the autolanding in ILS. Aircraft dynamics are separated into the fast time-scale variables, related with the inner-loop design, and the slow time-scale variables, related with the outer-loop design. It is assumed that the aircraft starts landing at 1000ft of altitude, -2.5deg of flight path angle, and 250ft/sec of velocity. In the outer-loop design, commands of altitude and velocity are selected and thereby the pseudo-controls of power level and pitch rate are determined. Also the elevator input to the aircraft is determined in the inner-loop design. The final design is evaluated in 6 DOF simulation model of the associated aircraft, in which the actuator models are not included. The results show the satisfactory autolanding ...

  • In this paper, we propose a new real-time traffic monitoring scheme for the BcN, the RBC algorithm and investigate its operation. We implemented RBC algorithm and constructed the testbed and we confirmed the performance for this. The simulation result shows that traffic monitoring log size is reduced remarkably by using the RBC. An operation hour is reduced and a feedback support of Real-time is possible also. Consequently, RBC algorithm confirmed we are fit for Real-time TE plan for BcN.

  • Future power plants will be required to adopt some type of carbon capture and storage (CCS) technologies to reduce their CO2 emissions. One of distinguished CCS techniques expected to resolve the green house effect is to apply the oxy-fuel combustion technique to power plant, and a lot of research/demonstration programs have been going on in the world. In this paper, CO2-capturing power plants based on gas turbine and oxy-fuel combustion are investigated over several types of configurations. As a prior step, simulation model for 500 MW-class combined cycle power plant was set and was used as a reference case. The efficiencies of several power plants was compared and the advantages and disadvanteges was investigated.
