  • Capparis pubifolia B. S. Sun is reported here as a new addition to the flora of Vietnam. It is morphologically allied to C. sikkimensis Kurz but differs due to the gray-yellow color of the hair of the twigs, having more secondary veins on the leaf, trichomes on both surfaces of the petal, and a globose shape of the fruit. Thus far, it was only reported in the Guangxi and Yunnan areas of China. A description, a line drawing and color photographs are provided for species identification. Furthermore, a comparison of the diagnostic characters with those of related species is made.

  • We report 14 species of flowering plants as new additions to the flora of Laos. These are Illex viridis (Aquifoliaceae), Capparis erycibe (Capparaceae), Euphorbia bokorensis (Euphorbiaceae), Exacum darae (Gentianaceae), Aeschynanthus cambodiensis (Gesneriaceae), Tetraphyllum roseum (Gesneriaceae), Utricularia gibba (Lentibulariaceae), Macrosolen brandisianus (Loranthaceae), Decaschistia siamensis (Malvaceae), Nyssa yunnanensis (Nyssaceae), Adenia penangiana var. penangiana (Passifloraceae), Pentaphylax euryoides (Pentaphylacaceae), Wikstroemia bokorensis (Thymelaeaceae), and Debregeasia wallichiana (Urticaceae). We discovered the species during a botanical survey of the Phou Khao Khouay National Biodiversity Conservation Area (PKKNBCA) of Lao PDR in 2015-2019. In addition, nine rarely collected flowering plant species in Laos are newly reported for the PKKNBCA.

  • Detailed chemical investigation of Boscia senegalensis (Per) Lam. ex Poir. led to the isolation of one new flavonol glycoside, rhamnocitrin-3-O-${\beta}$-$\small{D}$-(6"-O-E-feruloyl)-glucopyranoside named bosenegaloside A (1), with seven known compounds, rhamnocitrin-3-O-${\beta}$-$\small{D}$-(6"-O-E-p-coumaroyl)-glucopyranoside (2), rhamnocitrin-3-O-${\beta}$-$\small{D}$-glucopyranoside (3), 3,4,5-trimethoxyphenol-${\beta}$-$\small{D}$-glucopyrinoside (4), lasianthionoside A (5), 3,7-dimethyl-1-octene-3,6,7-triol-6-O-${\beta}$-$\small{D}$-glucopyranoside (6), syringin (7), and austroside B (8). The chemical structures of these compounds were elucidated from spectroscopic data and by comparison of these data with previously published results. The inhibitory activity of the isolated compounds on soluble epoxide hydrolase (sEH) was assessed. Compounds 1-3 potently inhibited sEH activity with $IC_{50}$ values of $12.8{\pm}0.5$, $18.4{\pm}0.2$, and $11.3{\pm}0.9{\mu}M$, respectively.

  • The medicinal value of the genus Cleome justifies bio-technological studies of Cleome rosea, a Brazilian annual species from sandy coastal ecosystems (restinga), which have been submitted to an intense process of antropogenic degradation. In the present work, was analyzed the influence of cytokinins, 6-benzyladenine (BA) and 6-furfurylaminopurine (kinetin) added to the Murashige and Skoog medium (MS), on the proliferation capacity of explants from the stem axis (hypocotyl, node and internode) for a period of five monthly subcultures (150 days). Regardless of the explant sources, plantlet regeneration by direct and indirect organogenesis was observed. The largest number of shoots proliferated through direct organogenesis was obtained on medium with 4.4 $\mu{M}$ BA. Also, the highest proliferation capacity through indirect organogenesis was found on medium with 4.4 $\mu{M}$ BA + 4.6 $\mu{M}$ kinetin. The presence of kinetin alone was not effective for multiplication of the species. Elongation and rooting were obtained when shoots were transferred onto growth regulator-free medium, and acclimatization rates from 70% to 81% were achieved depending on explant sources used. Plants were then successfully established in soil and showed normal phenotypes.
