Study of Single Stage PFC CCM Flyback Converter (연속모드 단일단 PFC 플라이백 컨버터의 연구)

  • Many industrial regions has used and extended the application of LED driver because of many advantage. Specially, due to the simplicity, miniaturization and power density, the flyback converter is selected by a lot of power engineer. Also, the electrolytic capacitor in this converter is used for the constant DC voltage of the converter because of the sufficient capacitance and the economic price. However, because of the characteristics of the electrolytic capacitor and ripple currents on the converter. the expected lifetime of the LED driver is more and more shorted. In this paper, a single-stage CCM PFC flyback converter with the film capacitor is suggested to extended the lifetime of the LED driver. In addition, the proposed converter with the LC filter is decreased the ripple current of the converter output.

  • This paper presents the design and reliability evaluation of metallized film capacitor for power e lectronics application. The rated voltage of development capacitor is DC 3300[V], the capacitance is 5 ${\mu}F$ and the ripple current capability is 130 $A_{rms}$. Film metallization and patterns are an important design factor that has been development enhance the electric and reliability properties of film capacitor for power electronics. In term of capacitor construction and metallized pattern is one of the parameters that can be modified to further improve the rating in the terms of maximum ripple current and lifetime. This capacitor can be used as snubber capacitor application such as power train invertor system.

  • Recently, the super capacitor(EDLC) which has drawn attention as a new energy storage element has a lot of advantage such as no maintenance, long lifetime and quick charge/discharge characteristics with large current. The objective of this paper is propose a parameter measurement method to detect the changes in equivalent series resistor (ESR) and the capacitance value of a super capacitor in order to analysis the internal characteristic and worn-out state of a super capacitor. For proposed method, only the capacitor voltage measurement using simple analog switch is required. In addition, experimental results of voltage sag compensation system in order to compensate the input voltage drop during short-term power interruption adopted super capacitor are presented.

  • A novel voltage sag compensator with hi-directional DC/DC converter of Electric double layer capacitor is proposed. Recently, the double-layer capacitor which is drawn attention as a new energy storage element has a lot of advantage such as no maintenance, long lifetime and quick charge/discharge characteristics with large current. This DC/DC converter is used to control the charging current to the double-layer capacitor and also used to keep the DC link voltage constant for discharge of the double-layer capacitor. Therefore, the proposed DC/DC converter has the high-efficiency controller, dynamic compensator of voltage sag is driven by this converter. Finally, experimental results show the validity of the control scheme and the ability of the dynamic voltage compensator.

  • Pulsed power systems consist of a capacitor bank, an isolated high-voltage charging power-supply, high-current bus-work for charging and discharging and a control system. In such pulsed power systems, the operating-lifetime of the capacitors is closely dependent on the voltage reversal. Hence, most capacitor-discharging systems includes crowbar circuits. The crowbar circuit prevents the capacitor recharging with reverse voltage. Usually it consists of crowbar resistors and high pulse-current diode-stacks connected in series. The requirements for the diode-stacks are fast-recovery time and high-voltage and large-current ratings, which results in the high cost of the pulsed-power system. This paper presents a protection scheme of a charging and discharging system of a 500kJ capacitor bank using a low-cost crowbar circuit and safety-fuses.

  • As to display products are made slim, the diameter of aluminum electrolytic capacitor is smaller and the length is longer to be fitted in. These small diameter and long length are pointed as the disadvantageous design factors of the capacitor's life cycle. So, the most electronic makers want to use proven capacitors (or well-known) to secure reliability of the electric products. In this study, we carried out the comparison analysis with two domestic capacitors and one foreign made capacitor. We designated separators, rubber breather and debris as the main factors that effect on the lifetime of capacitors. From the comparison results, we suggested the improvement points of the aluminum electrolytic capacitor.

  • In general, a power decoupling method using electrolytic capacitor is used to solve a problem that appears 120[Hz] ripple of grid at the PV module output. But electrolytic capacitor has a effect on the short lifetime and low reliability of PV system. Therefore, studies which replace the large electrolytic capacitor with small film capacitor have been researched in resent years. This paper proposes flyback inverter which can be replaced with film capacitor by connecting the circuit implementing zero voltage switching in PV side. The proposed system is validated by PSIM simulation.

  • In this paper, we proposed a LED driver that allows to use a long lifetime MLCC with small voltage capacity to replace the electrolytic condenser that has been used at the output part by storing only the voltage fluctuation due to temperature variation in the output condenser. The proposed LED driver can allow to use a long lifetime MLCC with small power loss as the output condenser instead of the conventional electrolytic condenser with short lifetime because it stores only the voltage fluctuation due to the temperature variation of the LED light source in the output condenser by connecting the output condenser with the input power supply in series in the basic topology of the conventional boost DC/DC converter. In this study, we performed a simulation to verify the conventional DC/DC converter and the proposed DC/DC converter. It was shown that the DC/DC converter proposed through the experiment allows to use MLCC as the output condenser and the efficiency can be improved.

  • Today, electrical machine is being large capacitor and EHV(Extra High Voltage) of power equipment is a need of high reliability of insulating matetials. Therefore, it is a need of fixed appraisement of lifetime to used data of breakdown. This paper studied a development of the program for estimation the lifetime of insullating materials and the long-time breakdown voltage by experimentation. The estimation program is based on the "Inverse Power Law", defined V$\^$n/t is constant. After gaining the life exponent n, it is mapping the long-time breakdown voltages. On the base of life exponent, the estimation of lifetime and usefulness of the insulation systems are possible, furthermore easy calculation is possible.
