  • This paper introduces a multi-touch recognition and tracking method for self capacitive TSP(Touch Screen Pannel). Self capacitive TSP recognizes finger touches by sensing capacitive change of ITO transparent conducting film arranged by rows and columns on the TSP pannel. They have some advantages such as high SNR, fast sensing, and simple touch processing, but have very difficulties for multi-touch processing. This disadvantage makes that the mutual capacitive TSPs, which have no such disadvantage, have been more widely used especially for multi-touch applications. However, since the other applications for remote control pad or recently developed wearable devises have only restrictive requirements for multi-touch, the disadvantage of self capacitive TSP is not a critical problem. In this paper, we first describe multi-touch recognition problems in self capacitive TSP and then propose how to overcome those problems and a tracking method of two touches when they are moving. Experimental results of our method showed that our algorithm works well in two touches.

  • Plasma characteristics of two-dimensional inductively coupled discharge simulation is investigated. Impedance of an inductively coupled plasma discharge was considered. Voltage drops across antenna coils and current variation between coils made different profiles of plasma characteristics. Importance of the capacitive field effect in some case was analyzed.

  • Coupling with a ring of capacitors introduces in-phase coupling current in multi-stage LC oscillators, increasing coupling strength and phase spacing accuracy. Capacitive coupling is effective at high-frequency applications because it increases coupling strength with the operating frequency. However, capacitive loading from the ring lowers operating frequency and reduces the tuning range. Mathematical expressions of phase noise and phase spacing accuracy with capacitive coupling are examined here, and transistor-level simulations confirm the effectiveness of the capacitive coupling.

  • In this paper, a new, simple capacitive tilt sensor with a metallic ball is proposed. The proposed tilt sensor has only two electrodes and a metallic ball, and this design assists in managing the inherent contact problem in measuring tilt angles. Capacitive sensing, compared with other types of tilt sensor, has many advantages such as simplicity, noncontact measurement, long-throw linear displacement, and sub-micron plate spacing. Its design and fabrication process are significantly simpler than previous types of tilt sensors. The dimensions of the prototype tilt sensor are $20mm{\times}20mm$, and the diameter of the polystyrene tube is 5 mm with a tube thickness of 0.15 mm. An analytical study of the prototype capacitive tilt sensor was undertaken, and the experimental results demonstrate the relationship between the tilt angles and measured capacitances compared with the analytical study.

  • In this paper, we designed and fabricated the magnetic bearings and built-in type cylindrical capacitive transducers for improving the vibration characteristics of rotating shaft. The eddy current and magnetic field from the electromagnet of the bearing don't affect the measuring signal of the capacitive type transducers so that it is possible to locate the capacitive sensor plates around the magnetic bearing poles and can improve the spillover problem which is induced by the noncollocation of the sensors and actuators. According to the sensitivity calibration schemes using a X-Y table, the cylindrical capacitive transducers have a good linearities in the .+-.70.mu.m range from the geometric center of the sensor plates. The measured results also show high displacement sensitivities of the sensors. According to the performance test of the magnetic bearing which is controlled by the analog PD controllers, we found that the built-in capacitive transducer system successfully measures the journal displacement in the magnetic field and therefore the magnetic bearing system supports the rotating shaft up to 12,000 rpm.

  • Partial discharges(PD) in air, corona discharges, deteriorate the insulation strength. So, it is necessary to detect PD at an early stage before the system failure and extensive damage to the equipment. PD emit signals which can be detected by applying an capacitive electric field diagnosis. In this paper, We measured signals by capacitive electric field sensor and analyzed FFT from PD, and then compared conventional electric PD detecting method to capacitive electric field diagnosis by $\Psi-q-n$, $\Psi-v-n$, $\Psi-n$, $\Psi-q$ distributions.

  • In this study, a variable capacitive pressure sensor is fabricated for TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System). This study is for developing sensors which consecutively measure the tire pressure given as 30 psi from the industrial standard. For improving non-linearity of the prior capacitive pressure sensors, it is suggested that touch mode capacitive pressure sensor be applied. In addition, initial capacitance is designed as small as possible for the conformity to the wireless sensor. ANSYS, commercial FEA package, is used for designing and simulating the sensor. The device is progressed by MEMS (Micro Electro Mechanical Systems) fabrication and packaged with PDMS. The result is obtained sensitivity, 1 pF/psi, through a pressure test. The simulation result is discrepant from experiment one. Wafer's uniformity is presumed as the main reason of discrepancy.

  • This paper presents frequency response compensation technique, and a self-oscillation circuit for capacitive microresonator with the compensation technique using programmable capacitor array, to compensate for the frequency response distorted by parasitic capacitances, and to obtain stable oscillation condition. The parasitic capacitances between the actuation input port and capacitive output port distort the frequency response of the microresonator. The distorted non-ideal frequency response can be compensated using two programmable capacitor arrays, which are connected between anti-phased actuation input port and capacitive output port. The simulation model includes the whole microresonator system, which consists of mechanical structure, transimpedance amplifier with automatic gain control, actuation driver and compensation circuit. The compensation operation and oscillation output of the system is verified with the simulation results.

  • This work proposes a capacitive coupling-based wireless battery charging circuit that is built with vehicle glasses for electric vehicles. A capacitive coupling wireless power transfer offers many advantages, such as low metal impact and low energy transfer efficiency changes in accordance with changes in position. However, a large coupling capacitor is needed for high power transfer. Therefore, a new capacitive coupling-based wireless power transfer LLC resonant converter built with the glasses of an electric vehicle is proposed. The proposed converter is composed of coupling capacitors with glasses of an electric vehicle and two transformers for impedance transformation. The proposed LLC converter can transfer large power and obtain high efficiency with zero voltage switching. The validity and features of the proposed circuit is verified by experimental results with a 1.2 kW prototype.
