  • The paper presents the dynamic stability of a vertical cantilevered pipe conveying fluid and haying translational linear spring supports. Real pipe systems may have some elastic hanger supports or other mechanical attached parts. which can be regarded as attached spring supports. Governing equations are derived by energy expressions, and numerical technique using Galerkin's method is applied to the equations of small motion of the pipe. Effects of spring supports on the dynamic stability of a vortical cantilevered pipe conveying fluid are fully investigated for various locations and spring constants of elastic supports.

  • The paper presents the dynamic stability of a vertical cantilevered pipe conveying fluid and having an intermediate translational linear spring. The translational linear spring can be located at an arbitrary position. Governing equations are derived by energy expressions, and numerical technique using Galerkin's method is applied to discretize the equations of small motion of the pipe. Effects of linear spring supports on the dynamic stability of a vertical cantilevered pipe conveying fluid are fully investigated for various locations and magnitudes of the translational linear spring.

  • The paper deals with vibration suppression and dynamic stability of a vertical cantilevered pipe conveying an internal flowing fluid and having an attached mass. Real pipe systems may have some valves or mechanical attached parts, which can be regarded as attached lumped masses. The effect of attached mass on the dynamic stability of a cantilevered pipe conveying fluid is investigated for different locations and magnitudes of the attached mass. The flow rate was controlled through motor pump output and measured by a flow meter. Experimental resutls in the vicinity of flutter fluid velocity were compared with theoretical predictions. It has been found that the experimental results are in substantial agreement with the theoretical predictions. Finally, in order to suppress the vibration of the pipe subjected to a disturbance, and control technique using an internal flowing fluid is introduced.

  • The paper deals with gravitational effect on dynamic stability of a cantilevered pipe conveying fluid. The eigenvalue branches and modes associated with flutter of cantilevered pipes conveying fluid are fully investigated. Governing equations of motion are derived by extended Hamilton's principle, and the solutions are sought by Galerkin's method. Root locus diagrams are plotted for different values of mass ratio of the pipe, and the order of branch in root locus diagrams is defined. The flutter modes of the pipe at the critical flow velocities are drawn at every one of the twelfth period. The transference of flutter-type instability from one eigenvalue branches to another is investigated thoroughly.

  • This paper deals with the dynamic stability and vibration of a non-uniform cantilevered pipe conveying fluid. The present model consists of two segments with different cross-sections. Governing equations of motion are derived by extended Hamilton's principle, and the numerical scheme using finite element method is applied to obtain the discretized equations. The critical flow velocities and stability maps of the pipe are obtained by changing step ratios, mass ratios and internal damping parameters of the pipe. Finally, the vibrational modes associated with flutter are shown graphically.

  • The paper presents both theoretical and experimental study fur dynamic instabilities of a vortical cantilevered pipe with two attached lumped masses conveying fluid. The two attached lumped masses can be considered as valves or some mechanical paras in real pipe systems. Eigenvalue behaviors depending on the flow velocity are investigated for the change of Positions and magnitudes of an attached lumped mass and a tip mass. In order to verify appropriate of numerical solutions, experiments were accomplished. Theoretical predictions have a good agreement with experimental ones.
