Machine vision system was used for analyzing leaf color disorders of tomato plants in a greenhouse. From the day when a few leave of tomato plants had started to wither, a series of images were captured by 4 times during 14 days. Among several color image spaces, Saturation frame in HSI color space was adequate to eliminate a background and Hue frame was good to detect infected disease area and tomato fruits. The processed image ($G{\sqcup}b^*$ image) by OR operation between G frame in RGB color space and $b^*$ frame in $La^*b^*$ color space was useful for image segmentation of a plant canopy area. This study calculated a ratio of the infected area to the plant canopy and manually analyzed leaf color disorders through an image segmentation for Hue frame of a tomato plant image. For automatically analyzing plant leave disease, this study selected twenty-seven color patches on the calibration bars as the corresponding to leaf color disorders. These selected color patches could represent 97% of the infected area analyzed by the manual method. Using only ten color patches among twenty-seven ones could represent over 85% of the infected area. This paper showed a proposed machine vision system may be effective for evaluating various leaf color disorders of plants growing in a greenhouse.

This study was conducted to provide a method of establishing two-storied forests by the adjustment of stand structures in natural deciduous forests of Pyeongchang area. Three permanent sampling plots of 0.09 ha were established in study site and some tree variables were measured in each sampling plot before the treatment of two-storied system. Stand attributes and stand structures before treatment were estimated based on the data measured in sampling plots. The results indicate that the current stand status is different from typical stand structures of two-storied forests. A simulation technique was applied to predict stand attributes and stand structures after the treatment of two-storied system. Results suggest that significant time is required to accomplish target stand structures even after applying the treatment of two-storied system. Number of trees in the upper canopy class after treatment was predicted to be 170 trees/ha, which adequately meets the target of two-storied forests. It was predicted, however, that the lower canopy class trees has much less trees compared with the typical stand structures of two-storied forests. This problem could be solved with ingrowth of infant trees over time or by under-planting of tolerant species. It is confirmed that the target growing stock volumes of the upper canopy class should be approximately $150m^3/ha$ considering stand status after treatment. It is predicted that twenty years of conversion period is required to accomplish this goal. The changes in stand structures over time should be assessed based on stand inventory carried out every five years, and additional treatments for inducing two-storied forests should be applied if necessary.

The needs for precise diagnostics and farm management-decision aids have increased to reduce the risk of climate change and environmental stress. Crop simulation models have been widely used to search optimal solutions for effective cultural practices. However, limited knowledge on physiological responses to environmental variation would make it challenging to apply crop simulation models to a wide range of studies. Advanced research facilities would help investigation of plant response to the environment. In the present study, the sunlit controlled environment chambers, known as Korean SPAR (Soil-Plant-Atmosphere-Research) system, was developed by renovating existing SPAR system. The Korean SPAR system controls and monitors major environmental variables including atmospheric carbon dioxide concentration, temperature and soil moisture. Furthermore, plants are allowed to grow under natural sunlight. Key physiological and physical data such as canopy photosynthesis and respiration, canopy water and nutrient use over the whole growth period are also collected automatically. As a case study, it was shown that the Korean SPAR system would be useful for collection of data needed for understanding the growth and developmental processes of a crop, e.g., soybean. In addition, we have demonstrated that the canopy photosynthetic data of the Korean SPAR indicate the precise representation of physiological responses to environment variation. As a result, physical and physiological data obtained from the Korean SPAR are expected to be useful for development of an advanced crop simulation model minimizing errors and confounding factors that usually occur in field experiments.

In this study, we developed the quality control and assurance method of measurement data of SPAR (Soil-Plant-Atmosphere-Research) system, a climate change research facility, for the first time. It was found that the precise processing of CO2 flux data among many observations were sig nificantly important to increase the accuracy of canopy photosynthesis measurements in the SPAR system. The collected raw CO2 flux data should first be removed error and missing data and then replaced with estimated data according to photosynthetic lig ht response curve model. Comparing the correlation between cumulative net assimilation and soybean biomass, the quality control and assurance of the raw CO2 flux data showed an improved effect on canopy photosynthesis evaluation by increasing the coefficient of determination (R2) and lowering the root mean square error (RMSE). These data processing methods are expected to be usefully applied to the development of crop growth model using SPAR system.

The purpose of this study is to build urban canopy model (Met Office Reading Urban Surface Exchange Scheme, MORUSES) based to Unified Model (UM) by using urban building information data in Seoul, and then to compare the improving urban canopy model simulation result with that of Seoul Automatic Weather Station (AWS) observation site data. UM-MORUSES is based on building information database in London, we performed a sensitivity experiment of UM-MOURSES model using urban building information database in Seoul. Geographic Information System (GIS) analysis of 1.5 km resolution Seoul building data is applied instead of London building information data. Frontal-area index and planar-area index of Seoul are used to calculate building height. The height of the highest building in Seoul is 40m, showing high in Yeoido-gu, Gangnam-gu and Jamsil-gu areas. The street aspect ratio is high in Gangnam-gu, and the repetition rate of buildings is lower in Eunpyeong-gu and Gangbuk-gu. UM-MORUSES model is improved to consider the building geometry parameter in Seoul. It is noticed that the Root Mean Square Error (RMSE) of wind speed is decreases from 0.8 to 0.6 m s-1 by 25 number AWS in Seoul. The surface air temperature forecast tends to underestimate in pre-improvement model, while it is improved at night time by UM-MORUSES model. This study shows that the post-improvement UM-MORUSES model can provide detailed Seoul building information data and accurate surface air temperature and wind speed in urban region.

In a plumcot 'Harmony' cultivar, which is an interspecific hybrid between plum and apricot, canopy occupation and productivity according to tree training system, Y shape with no trellis (YNT) and Y-palmette with trellis (YPT), were compared. According to the survey results for 5 years of planting, tree growth was similar in two training systems. However, canopy occupation and fruit yield of YPT were significantly higher than those of YNT. The fruit weight and sugar content were not significantly different between two systems. The fruit drop rate tended to be lower in YPT than in YNT. From the above results, it is expected that the YPT type will contribute to the increase of canopy occupation and fruit yield and reducing the fruit drop rate compared to the YNT.
In this study, Urban Climate Simulation was performed by 3-Dimensional Urban Canopy Model. The characteristics of urban climate was analyzed combining artificial land coverage, building size, heat production from the air conditioning and topographic conditions as physical variables which affects urban climate characteristics. The results are as follows. (1)The aspects of the urban climatal change is derived to be related to the combination of the building coverage ratio, building height and shading area. (2)Whole heat generation was influenced by the convective sensible heat at the lower building height and by the artificial heat generation at the higher one over 20-story building influence to some extent of the building coverage ratio. The effect of the altitude is not more considerable than the other variables as below $1^{\circ}C$ of the air temperature.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the urban heat island (UHI) intensity and the corresponding surface temperature forecast obtained using the local data assimilation and prediction system (LDAPS) of the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) against the AWS observation. The observed UHI intensity in Seoul increases during spring and winter, while it decreases during summer. It is found that the diurnal variability of the UHI intensity peaks at dawn but reaches a minimum in the afternoon. The LDAPS overestimates the UHI intensity in summer but underestimates it in winter. In particular, the model tends to overestimate the UHI intensity during the daytime in summer but underestimate it during the nighttime in winter. Moreover, surface temperature errors decrease in summer but increase in winter. The underestimation of the winter UHI intensity appears to be associated with weak forecasting of urban temperature in winter. However, the overestimated summer UHI intensity results from the underestimation of the suburban temperature forecast in summer. In order to improve the predictability of the UHI intensity, an urban canopy model (MORUSES) that considers urban effects was combined with LDAPS and used for simulation for the summer of 2017. The surface temperature forecast for the city was improved significantly by adopting MORUSES, and there were remarkable improvements in urban surface temperature morning forecasts. The urban canopy model produced an improvement effect that weakened the intensity of the UHI, which showed an overestimation during summer.

In this paper, a radar scattering model for forest canopies has been developed based on an empirical rough surface scattering model and the radiative transfer theory. Leaves in the forest canopy are modeled by rectangular resistive sheets, brunches and trunks are modeled by cylinder, which sizes and orientations are randomly distributed. The scattering model has been verified with the measurement data of JPL/AirSAR system.
