A Comparison of Active Contour Algorithms in Computer-aided Detection System for Dental Cavity using X-ray Image (X선 영상 기반 치아와동 컴퓨터 보조검출 시스템에서의 동적윤곽 알고리즘 비교)

  • Dental caries is one of the most popular oral disease. The aim of automatic dental cavity detection system is helping dentist to make accurate diagnosis. It is very important to separate cavity from the teeth in the detection system. In this paper, We compared two active contour algorithms, Snake and DRLSE(Distance Regularized Level Set Evolution). To improve performance, image is selected ROI(region of interest), then applied bilateral filter, Canny edge. In order to evaluate the algorithms, we applied to 7 tooth phantoms from incisor to molar. Each teeth contains two cavities of different shape. As a result, Snake is faster than DRLSE, but Snake has limitation to compute topology of objects. DRLSE is slower but those of performance is better.

  • 차량이 도로를 달리는데 있어서 절대적으로 꼭 필요한 타이어의 기능으로는 자동차의 하중을 지탱하고 자동차의 방향 전환 유지와, 노면 충격을 흡수 완화하며, 엔진의 구동력과 브레이킹 시 제동력을 노면에 전달하는 등의 기능이 있다. 이런 기능을 수행함에 있어 타이어의 상태는 안전과 직결된다고 볼 수 있다. 주행 중 운전자가 아무리 운전을 잘한다고 하더라도 타이어의 불량으로 인한 사고를 방지할 수는 없다. 자동차의 주행 안정성을 위한 타이어의 문제 중 타이어의 편마모는 운전자의 운전습관과 휠 얼라이먼트의 이상 등으로 타이어의 특정 부위가 마모되는 증상을 일컫는데, 현재까지 점검 방법으로는 정비사가 타이어를 눈과 손으로 점검하여 판단하고 있어서 점검하는 기준이 주관적이며, 정확하게 검증할 수 없는 것이 현실이다. 이에 본 논문에서는 현실의 애매모호한 주관적인 검증기준의 단점을 보완하고자 타이어의 실제 이미지를 디지털 영상처리 기법을 사용하여 각 타이어의 마모 정도를 체크하여 편마모를 객관적으로 점검할 수 있는 시스템을 설계하고자 한다.

  • As autonomous driving research is actively progressing, lane detection is an essential technology in ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) to locate a vehicle and maintain a route. Lane detection is detected using an image processing algorithm such as Hough transform and RANSAC (Random Sample Consensus). This paper implements a linear shape detection algorithm using OpenCV on Raspberry Pi 3 B+. Thresholds were set through OpenCV Gaussian blur structure and Canny edge detection, and lane recognition was successful through linear detection algorithm.

An Adaptive Road ROI Determination Algorithm for Lane Detection (차선 인식을 위한 적응적 도로 관심영역 결정 알고리즘)

  • Road conditions can provide important information for driving safety in driving assistance systems. The input images usually include unnecessary information and they need to be analyzed only in a region of interest (ROI) to reduce the amount of computation. In this paper, a vision-based road ROI determination algorithm is proposed to detect the road region using the positional information of a vanishing point and line segments. The line segments are detected using Canny's edge detection and Hough transform. The vanishing point is traced by a Kalman filter to reduce the false detection due to noises. The road ROI can be determined automatically and adaptively in every frame after initialization. The proposed method is implemented using C++ and the OpenCV library, and the road ROIs are obtained from various video images of black boxes. The results show that the proposed algorithm is robust.

  • Recently virtual advertising is located in an important area of interest in the TV market by convenience of application and reduction of cost. The methods of inserting a virtual advertising in broadcasting are Up-link that method insert the image through the production equipment of the broadcasting station and dispatch equipment and technical personnel in the shooting and Down-streaming that method insert a virtual image automatically in relay video using image processing technology. In recent years, the image processing technology is an important research area in the virtual advertising area for automatically insertion of advertising images. In this paper, we propose the method to extract less-informative region in sports video using image processing. The proposed method extracts less-Informative region through rectangle detection of Hough transform and analysis of color histogram distribution.

  • The cultural grounds of laver has been surveyed using SPOT-5 satellite images to calculate the facilities of laver cultivation area in the coastal waters of Korea 10m resolution multispectral images of SPOT-5 are adopted for the south area of Daebu Island, Hwaseong city to develop an automatic detection approach of laver nets that consists of the following: band difference technique, canny edge detector and morphological analysis. The satellite-based facilities number was relatively high as compared with the licensed number in 2005, 676,749 chaek and 572,745 chaek(柵, unit of measure for laver farm), respectively. The data could be applied to achieve a good harvest for laver seaweed growers and to control its national production keeping a stable market price for the government body.

  • In this paper, by using the Morphing, if the size of the eyes of both sides are not the same, we propose a method to correct the size of eyes area. First, by using the Haar-like feature from a input image that is input, to detect the shape of the eyes and face. After inverting the left and right eye region of one of the shape of the eyes detected sets the correspondence between the second with a line to control the shape of the eyes detected using eyes that is detected with canny edge, in the previous step. To the Warping to match the correspondence was then set in the previous step, an area of each eye. Then, I merge the image which merged in the eye area is detected from the original image. As a result, a system result of the experiment in the test image and face image seen from the front, the proposed, prove to be more efficient than a method of keying the size of the eye only.

  • In this paper, we develop a pattern recognition algorithm applied to a humanoid robot which is exploited as a guide for visually handicapped persons to find a desired path to their destinations. Behavior primitives of a humanoid robot are defined, and Canny's edge detection algorithm is employed to extract the pattern and color of the paving blocks that especially devised for visually handicapped persons. Based on these, an efficient path finding algorithm is developed and implemented on a humanoid robot, running on an embedded linux operating system equipped with a video camera. The performance of our algorithm is experimentally examined in terms of the response time and the pattern recognition ratio. In order to validate our algorithm in various realistic environments, the experiments are repeatedly performed by changing the tilt of paving blocks and the brightness in surrounding area. The results show that our algorithm performs sufficiently well to be exploited as a path finding system for visually handicapped persons.

Character Region Detection Using Structural Features of Hangul Vowel (한글 모음의 구조적 특징을 이용한 문자영역 검출 기법)

  • We proposes the method to detect the Hangul character region from natural image using topological structural feature of Hangul grapheme. First, we transform a natural image to a gray-scale image. Second, feature extraction performed with edge and connected component based method, Edge-based method use a Canny-edge detector and connected component based method applied the local range filtering. Next, if features are not corresponding to the heuristic rule of Hangul character, extracted features filtered out and select candidates of character region. Next, candidates of Hangul character region are merged into one Hangul character using Hangul character merging algorithm. Finally, we detect the final character region by Hangul character class decision algorithm. Experimental result, proposed method could detect a character region effectively in images that contains a complex background and various environments. As a result of the performance evaluation, A proposed method showed advanced results about detection of Hangul character region from mobile image.
