  • The pyramid graph is an interconnection network topology based on regular square mesh and tree structures. In this paper, we adopt a strategy of classification into two disjoint groups of edges in regular square mesh as a base sub-graph constituting of each layer in the pyramid graph. Edge set in the mesh can be divided into two disjoint sub-sets called as NPC(represents candidate edge for neighbor-parent) and SPC(represents candidate edge for shared-parent) whether the parents vertices adjacent to two end vertices of the corresponding edge have a relation of neighbor or shared in the upper layer of pyramid graph. In addition, we also introduce a notion of shrink graph to focus only on the NPC-edges by hiding SPC-edges in the original graph within the shrunk super-vertex on the resulting graph. In this paper, we analyze that the lower and upper bound on the number of NPC-edges in a Hamiltonian cycle constructed on $2^n\times2^n$ mesh is $2^{2n-2}$ and $3*(2^{2n-2}-2^{n-1})$ respectively. By expanding this result into the pyramid graph, we also prove that the maximum number of NPC-edges containable in a Hamiltonian cycle is $4^{n-1}-3*2^{n-1}$-2n+7 in the n-dimensional pyramid.

  • As more people have cars, the threat of traffic accidents is posed on men and women of all ages. The main culprit of traffic accidents is driving while intoxicated or drowsy. The method to recognize and prevent the cause of traffic accidents is to use lane detection. In this study, a total of 4,000 frames (day image: 2,900 frames, night image: 1,100 frames) were used to test lane detection. According to the test, in the case of day image, when the threshold of Sobel edge detection technique was detected with second-order differential equation, there was the highest candidate lane detection rate which was 86.1%. In the threshold of Canny edge detection technique, the highest detection rate of 88.0% was found at Low=50, and High=300. In the case of night image, the threshold of Sobel edge detection technique, when horizontal calculation and vertical calculation had second-order differential equation, and when horizontal-vertical calculation had 1.5th-order differential equation, there was the highest detection rate which was 83.1%. In the threshold of Canny edge detection technique, the highest detection rate of 89.9% was found at Low=50, and High=300.

  • Crosswalk detection is an important part of the Pedestrian Protection System in autonomous vehicles. Different methods of crosswalk detection have been introduced so far using crosswalk edge features, the distance between crosswalk blocks, laser scanning, Hough Transformation, and Fourier Transformation. However, most of these methods failed to detect crosswalks accurately, when they are damaged, faded away or partly occluded. Furthermore, these methods face difficulties when applying on real road environment where there are lot of vehicles. In this paper, we solve this problem by first using a region based binarization technique and x-axis histogram to detect the candidate crosswalk areas. Then, we apply Support Vector Machine (SVM) based classification method to decide whether the candidate areas contain a crosswalk or not. Experiment results prove that our method can detect crosswalks in different environment conditions with higher recognition rate even they are faded away or partly occluded.

  • In this paper, a detection algorithm for the removal of needle in oriental clinic is presented. First, in the proposed method, the candidate areas of each needle penetrated are selected by using the RGB color information of needle head, and the false candidates are removed by considering their area size. Next, two main edges of the needle are extracted through using the edges of selected candidate areas and their radon transformation. The final verification of penetrated needle is accomplished by using the morphological analysis of these two edge lines. In the experiments, the detection rate of proposed method reaches to 99% for the 36 images containing 294 needles.

  • Text in images is one of the most important cues for understanding a scene. In this paper, we propose a novel approach based on interest points to localize text in natural scene images. The main ideas of this approach are as follows: first we used interest point detection techniques, which extract the corner points of characters and center points of edge connected components, to select candidate regions. Second, these candidate regions were verified by using tensor voting, which is capable of extracting perceptual structures from noisy data. Finally, area, orientation, and aspect ratio were used to filter out non-text regions. The proposed method was tested on the ICDAR 2003 dataset and images of wine labels. The experiment results show the validity of this approach.

  • In Oriental medicine, the shape of collarette that formed with position in iris of patients often used by health diagnotcian to grasp health condition. In this paper, we present method that effectively extract collarette that exist in Iris image. After proposed method detert iris area using circular edge detector, derides boundary candidate point through radial line search and threshold value establishment. And boundary candidate line is treated to use nearest neighbor calculation at each boundary candidate point, finally extracts collarette through linear interpolation. As a result of experimenting about iris images, We Confirmed that can be used as assistant tool of diagnostic system that can presume state of ventriculus of human body.

  • In this paper we propose a novel method which improves digital image stabilization performance using adoptive selection of motion estimation area. Candidate area for motion estimation is decided and through two processes, multi image reference and edge energy distinction, final motion estimation area is selected. Then Motion estimation and compensation is following in selected area. Experimental results show that proposed method improves performance of digital image stabilization.

  • In this paper, hierarchical retrieval system based on efficient feature extraction is proposed. In order to retrieval the image with robustness for geometrical transformation such as translation, scaling, and rotation. After performing the 2-level wavelet transform on image, We extract moment in low-level subband which was subdivided into subimages and texture feature, contrast of GLCM(Gray Level Co-occurrence Matrix). At first we retrieve the candidate images in database by the ones of image. To perform a more accurate image retrieval, the edge information on the high-level subband was subdivided horizontally, vertically and diagonally. And then, the energy rate of edge per direction was determined and used to compare the energy rate of edge between images for higher accuracy.

  • In this paper, we propose a method to classify the types of vehicle as full, medium, or small size. The proposed method is composed of three steps. First, after obtaining vehicle contour from template candidate image, edge distance template is created by distance transform of the vehicle's contour. Second, the vehicle type of input image is classified as the type of template which has minimal edge distance with input image. The edge distance value means the measurement of distance between input image and template at each pixel which is part of vehicle contour. Experimental results demonstrate that our method presented a good performance of 80% about test images.

  • In this paper, we propose a new stereo correspondence method for generating excellent external energy for snake-based object segmentation methods in stereo images. Our method first generates an edge-based disparity map by performing stereo correspondence between multi-level edge maps of the stereo image pair. Only edges of similar strength are considered for matching. To filter the disparity map for edges of the object of interest, the method estimates the object's disparity value by matching the pattern of edges of the region of interest in the left image against candidate patterns in the right image. The filtered edge map is then used to generate external energy for the snake. The proposed method has been tested on two snake models and results show a noticeable enhancement on performance of the snake when compared with other methods.
