In this paper a 3D position measuring device that finds the 3D position of an arbitarily placed object using a camersa system is introduced. The camera system consists of three stepping motors and a CCD camera and a laser. The viewing direction of the camera is controlled by two stepping motors (pan and tilt motors) and the direction of a laser is also controlled by a stepping motors(laser motor). If an object in a remote place is selected from a live video image the x,y,z coordinates of the object with respect to the reference coordinate system can be obtained by calculating the distance from the camera to the object using a structured light scheme and by obtaining the orientation of the camera that is controlled by two stepping motors. The angles o f stepping motors are controlled by a SGI O2 workstation through a parallel port. The mathematical model of the camera and the distance measuring system are calibrated to calculate an accurate position of the object. This 3D position measuring device can be used to acquire information that is necessary to monitor a remote place.
Multi-camera systems have been widely used as cost-effective tools for the collection of geospatial data for various applications. In order to fully achieve the potential accuracy of these systems for object space reconstruction, careful system calibration should be carried out prior to data collection. Since the structural integrity of the involved cameras' components and system mounting parameters cannot be guaranteed over time, multi-camera system should be frequently calibrated to confirm the stability of the estimated parameters. Therefore, automated techniques are needed to facilitate and speed up the system calibration procedure. The automation of the multi-camera system calibration approach, which was proposed in the first part of this paper, is contingent on the automated detection, localization, and identification of the object space signalized targets in the images. In this paper, the automation of the proposed camera calibration procedure through automatic target extraction and labelling approaches will be presented. The introduced automated system calibration procedure is then implemented for a newly-developed multi-camera system while considering the optimum configuration for the data collection. Experimental results from the implemented system calibration procedure are finally presented to verify the feasibility the proposed automated procedure. Qualitative and quantitative evaluation of the estimated system calibration parameters from two-calibration sessions is also presented to confirm the stability of the cameras' interior orientation and system mounting parameters.

In this paper, we discuss the tracking system for a wheelchair which can follow the path of a human target such as a nurse in hospital. The problem of human tracking is that it requires recognition of feature as well as the tracking of human positions. For this purpose the use of a high cost visual sensor such as laser finder or streo camera makes the tracking a high cost additional expense. This paper proposes the tracking system uses a low cost infrared range-finder and CCD camera, The Infrared range-finder and CCD camera can create a target candidate through each target recognition algorithm. and this information is fused in order to reduce the uncertainties of a target decision and correct the positional error of the human. The effectiveness of the proposed system is verified through experiments.
In this paper, we design an on-road vehicle detection system based on the combination of a camera and a LIDAR system. In the proposed system, the candidate area is selected from the LIDAR data using a grouping algorithm. Then, the selected candidate area is scanned by an SVM to find an actual vehicle. The morphological edged images are used as features in a camera. The principal components of the edged images called eigencar are employed to train the SVM. We conducted experiments to show that the on-road vehicle detection system developed in this paper demonstrates about 80% accuracy and runs with 20 scans per second on LIDAR and 10 frames per second on camera.
In this paper, a computer automated system has been developed for measuring the focal length of camera lens using the MTF(Modurar Transfer Function) based on the signal processing around a line CCD and autocollimator. An optical Path for the focal length measurement system has been designed around thelight sourec, collimator, camera, mirror and the line CCD. The eyepiece of the collimator is replaced byline CCD, and the mirror is moved along the focal axis by a PC driven step motor. An efficient method has been designed for finding the optimum MTF value for the focal length based on the least squares approach. The developed system is fullycomputer automated: signal transmission to and from the camera, MTF evaluation based on the line CCD, step motor contorl, etc. The developed system has been applied to a practical camera manufacturing process and demonstrated its performance

In this paper, we present a low-cost fire detection system using a thermal camera and a smartphone. The developed system collects thermal and RGB videos from the developed camera. To detect fire, candidate fire regions are extracted from videos obtained using a thermal camera. The block mean of variation of adjacent frames is measured to analyze the dynamic characteristics of the candidate fire regions. After analyzing the dynamic characteristics of regions of interest, a fire is determined by the candidate fire regions. In order to evaluate the performance of our system, we compared with a smoke detector, a heat detector, and a flame detector. In the experiments, our fire detection system showed the excellent performance in detecting fire with an overall accuracy rate of 97.8 %.
This paper presents the design and implementation of an embedded image stabilization control system for a mobile phone with a built-in camera. Image stabilization is a family of techniques for reducing image blur resulting from minute camera shake due to hand-held shooting, thereby allowing the use of shutter speeds slower than values normally required to obtain sharp images. A mechanical image stabilizer mechanism developed for a camera mobile phone is introduced and a digital control system as a part of the image stabilization system is designed and implemented on an 8-bit microcontroller with integer arithmetic in C. This paper focuses primarily on issues that need to be taken into consideration for fixed-point implementation of the digital controller. Several experimental results are presented to demonstrate the performance of the implemented image stabilization control system.
