Falls are the main cause of serious injuries and accidental deaths in people over the age of 65. Due to widespread adoption of smartphones, there has been a growing interest in the use of smartphones for detecting human behavior and activities. Modern smartphones are equipped with a wide variety of sensors such as an accelerometer, a gyroscope, camera, GPS, digital compass and microphone. In this paper, we introduce a new method that determines the fall direction of human subjects by analyzing the three axis components of acceleration vector.
A new method of estimating the pose of a mobile-task robot is developed based upon an active calibration scheme. The utility of a mobile-task robot is widely recognized, which is formed by the serial connection of a mobile robot and a task robot. For the control of the mobile robot, an absolute position sensor is necessary. This paper proposes an active calibration scheme to estimate the pose of a mobile robot that carries a task robot on the top. The active calibration scheme is to estimate a pose of the mobile robot using the relative position/orientation to a known object whose location, size, and shape are known a priori. Through the homogeneous transformation, the absolute position/orientation of the camera is calculated and that is propagated to getting the pose of a mobile robot. With the experiments in the corridor, the proposed active calibration scheme is verified experimentally.
This paper presents an implementation of real-time speaker localization using audio-visual information. Four channels of microphone signals are processed to detect vertical as well as horizontal speaker positions. At first short-time average magnitude difference function(AMDF) signals are used to determine whether the microphone signals are human voices or not. And then the orientation and distance information of the sound sources can be obtained through interaural time difference and interaual level differences. Finally visual information by a camera helps get finer tuning of the speaker orientation. Experimental results of the real-time localization system show that the performance improves to 99.6% compared to the rate of 88.8% when only the audio information is used.
In this paper, we present a robust method for detecting other vehicles from n forward-looking CCD camera in a moving vehicle. This system uses edge and shape information to detect other vehicles. The algorithm consists of three steps: lane detection, ehicle candidate generation, and vehicle verification. First after detecting a lane from the template matching method, we divide the road into three parts: left lane, front lane, and right lane. Second, we set the region of interest (ROI) using the lane position information and extract a vehicle candidate from the ROI. Third, we use local orientation coding (LOC) edge image of the vehicle candidate as input to a pretrained neural network for vehicle recognition. Experimental results from highway scenes show the robustness and effectiveness of this method.
LiDAR systems are usually incorporated a laser scanner and GPS/INS modules with a digital aerial camera. LiDAR point clouds and digital aerial images acquired by the systems provide complementary spatial information on the ground. In addition, some of laser scanners provide intensity, radiometric information on the surface of the earth. Since the intensity is unnecessary of registration and provides the radiometric information at a certain wavelength on the location of LiDAR point, it can be a valuable ancillary information but it does not deliver sufficient radiometric information compared with digital images. This study utilize the LiDAR points as ground control points (GCPs) to adjust exterior orientations(EOs) of the stereo images. It is difficult to find exact point of LiDAR corresponding to conjugate points in stereo images, but this study used intensity of LiDAR as an ancillary data to find the GCPs. The LiDAR points were successfully used to adjust EOs of stereo aerial images, therefore, successfully provided the prerequisite for the precise registration of the two data sets from the LiDAR systems.
The major movement block of the containers have range between apron and designation points on yard in container terminal. The yard tractor operated by human takes charge of its movement in conventional container terminal. In automated container terminal, AGV(Automated Guided Vehicle) has charge of the yard tractor's role and the navigation path is ordered from upper level control system. The automated container terminal facilities must have the docking system to guide landing line to have high speed travelling and precision positioning. The general method for docking system uses the vision system with CCD camera, infra red, and laser. This paper describes the detection of AGV's position and orientation using laser slit beam to develop docking system.
This paper presents the development of estimation model and control method based on the new computer vision. This proposed control method is accomplished using a sequential estimation scheme that permits placement of the rigid body in each of the two-dimensional image planes of monitoring cameras. Estimation model with six parameters is developed based on a model that generalizes known 4-axis scara robot kinematics to accommodate unknown relative camera position and orientation, etc. Based on the estimated parameters, depending on each camers the joint angle of robot is estimated by the iteration method. The method is tested experimentally in two ways, the estimation model test and a three-dimensional rigid body placement task. Three results show that control scheme used is precise and robust. This feature can open the door to a range of application of multi-axis robot such as assembly and welding.
This study presents methodology and tools for remote measurement of the orientation of the rock parting surfaces. Two close circuit video camera capture the pictures of a rock excavation surface while a laser beam scans the surface. Positions of the laser beams in the two digital images are recognized by image processing. Using the stereoscopic concept, three dimensional coordinations of the rock surface and the orientation of the rock parting planes are calculated. Point, cross and line type laser beams are tested for better image processing results and measurement accuracy of the coordinates. According to a simple accuracy test, cross beam show better results than the point beam. However, line beam show more promising results for the measurement of the rock parting surfaces.
In this paper, inspection and subpixed alignment algorithms of SMD's (Surface Mounting Devices) using fuzzy morphology are proposed. First, camera calibration is performed and then the inspection algorithm detects defects such as lead bending and breaking using the ruler generated by fuzy morphology. The SMD having no defects is tested whether it is mounted in the specified position or not. The proposed subpixel alignment algorithm detects accurately orientation and position using subpixel interpolation. It consists of two parts: preprocessing and main processing steps, in which corner points and coarse orientation of a SMD are detected, and interpolation is used to obtain final parameters with wubpixel accuracy. The computer simulation shows that the proposed algorithms give more accurate parameters, and they can be applied to fast and accurate automatic surface mounting systems.
