  • The sleep measurement system is important to detect sleep disturbances as early as possible to be diagnosed and treat the diseases quickly. This paper presents design of system to measure the quality of sleep by using nine accelerometer sensors embedded in the pillow to detect the acceleration of limb movement, e.g. head movements. The participants were asked to sleep using a smart pillow for five days. While sleeping, participants are recorded using a camera on a computer. After awakening, participants were asked to fill out a post-sleep questionnaire. Spearman's correlation was performed to test the correlation of gross body movement per minute rate with post-sleep questionnaire questions. Finally, the seven score of sleep quality were tested with gross body movement per minute rate. The result is the higher gross body movement per minute during sleep represented lower sleep quality.

  • ICT in the IOT era is the core basis of modern society. This study investigated and analyzed the recent commercialization trends of smart fashion products internationally and domestically, to utilize them as the basis of data for developing user-friendly smart fashion products that can meet the needs of consumers. Keyword research using the most representative search engines, Google and Naver was conducted for searching for various wearable items commercialized actively since 2010. The final 78 products were classified by the physical area, and the key features and benefits were analyzed. Smart fashion products were classified as four physical types for the head and face, torso, arms and hands, and ankles and feet. Smart fashion products for each body part were developed in various ways, such as hats, glasses, lenses, virtual screens, earphones, headsets, clothing, watches, wrist bands, gloves, rings, wallets, bags, anklets, shoes, socks, and insoles. The main features were music playback, bluetooth, a camera based on NFC, virtual effects, health and safety protection through measuring heartbeat and momentum, and social network sharing of all kinds of information, based on inter-working with a smartphone. These functions represent the physical, social, and emotional interactions among users and their surroundings, as well as the users, themselves. The research results are expected to be used in future studies on planning user-friendly and marketable products through in-depth analysis of the design characteristics of smart fashion products as well as consumer responses.

  • In recent years, the interests and needs of the Pedestrian Protection System (PPS), which is mounted on the vehicle for the purpose of traffic safety improvement is increasing. In this paper, we propose a pedestrian candidate window extraction and unit cell histogram based HOG descriptor calculation methods. At pedestrian detection candidate windows extraction stage, the bright ratio of pedestrian and its circumference region, vertical edge projection, edge factor, and PCA reconstruction image are used. Dalal's HOG requires pixel based histogram calculation by Gaussian weights and trilinear interpolation on overlapping blocks, But our method performs Gaussian down-weight and computes histogram on a per-cell basis, and then the histogram is combined with the adjacent cell, so our method can be calculated faster than Dalal's method. Our PCA reconstruction error based pedestrian detection candidate window extraction method efficiently classifies background based on the difference between pedestrian's head and shoulder area. The proposed method improves detection speed compared to the conventional HOG just using image without any prior information from camera calibration or depth map obtained from stereo cameras.

  • Objective: The study sought to estimate the relationship between body surface temperature (BST) and temperature humidity index (THI) and to present the validity of THI as a heat stress index in the field. Methods: Eight Hanwoo heifers (20 to 32 month) were examined in a field trial, with a space allowance of 10 ㎡ per head. The BST was measured using an infrared thermographic camera. The BST of five body regions (eyes, hindquarters, nose, part of horns, and ears), ambient temperature (AT), and relative humidity (RH) were measured 7 times daily (07, 09, 11, 13, 15, 17, and 19 h) during each season with three replicates. Results: The THI ranged 34.0 to 56.9 during spring (AT, -1.0℃ to 13.4℃), 75.1 to 84.7 during summer (AT, 24.9℃ to 33.6℃), 55.8 to 70.9 during autumn (AT, 13.0℃ to 26.0℃) and 17.5 to 39.2 during winter (AT, -10.4℃ to 1.0℃). In the regression analysis, the coefficient of determination (R2) between THI and BST was 0.88, 0.72, 0.83, 0.86, and 0.85 for the eyes, hindquarters, nose, part of horn, and ears area, respectively. This indicates that BST has a strong correlation with AT and RH. Expression equations were estimated as Y (THI) = 31.54+0.1085X (BST of eyes) and Y (THI) = 30.48+0.1147X (BST of hindquarters) by simple linear regression analysis in this experiment. Conclusion: Consequently, the upper bound for heat stress estimation can be specified ranging from THI of 65 (eyes) to 70 (hindquarters). From this we can expect a precise feeding system for Korean native cattle in the field.

  • Acute transient synovitis of the hip presents clinically pain and limping. But in the majority of the cases, definite positive findings are not manifest in roentgenogram in its early phase. However radionuclide bone imaging combines with the assessment of vascularization and bone tracer uptake is of great value in solving this diagnostic problem. The materials for this study consisted of 29 children with acute transient synovitis of the hip, characterized by symptoms and physical signs of an arthritis, negative X-ray findings and disappearance of all symptoms and signs within a short period of time. They were twenty males and 9 females and age ranged from 1 to 12 years. We took pelvic reontgenogram in AP and frog-leg views. After intravenous bolus injection of 10 to 15 mCi of $^{99m}Tc-methylene$ diphosphonate, 24 sequential image of the pelvis was taken at 2-second interval for blood flow study. The scintigrams were made using a gamma camera with high resolution parallel hole collimator. Blood pool imaging was obtained at 2 minutes after tracer administration. After 3 hours, static images were taken and then closeup image of the hip using pin-hole collimator was followed. The results were as follows: 1) Bone scintigram was much more sensitive than conventional roentgenogram in diagnosis of acute transient synovitis of the hip. 2) Three-phase imagings showed increased vascular activities in blood pool scintigrams in 96%. 3) Pin-hole imaging showed increased tracer uptake in the regional bones of the hip, par ticularly in the medial aspect of femoral head and acetabulum. 4) We confirmed that three-phase imaging reinforced with pin-hole technique were very useful in diagnose of acute transient synovitis of the hip.

  • The extraction of a face is a very important part for human interface, biometrics and security. In this paper, we applies DCM(Dilation of Color and Motion) filter and Active Contour Models to extract facial outline. First, DCM filter is made by applying morphology dilation to the combination of facial color image and differential image applied by dilation previously. This filter is used to remove complex background and to detect facial outline. Because Active Contour Models receive a large effect according to initial curves, we calculate rotational degree using geometric ratio of face, eyes and mouth. We use edgeness and intensity as an image energy, in order to extract outline in the area of weak edge. We acquire various head-pose images with both eyes from five persons in inner space with complex background. As an experimental result with total 125 images gathered by 25 per person, it shows that average extraction rate of facial outline is 98.1% and average processing time is 0.2sec.

  • Ethylcystein dimer (ECD) was synthesized by dimerizatlon of L-thiazolidine-4-carboxylic acid in liquid ammania with sodium metal and successive esterification in ethanolic solution of hydrogen chlorde. The purified product was labeled with $^{99m}Tc$ in the presence of sodium glucarate(pH= 5.6) and stannous chloride. Best result was obtained from the preparation con sisting of 0.1mg ECD, $40{\mu}l$ of 0.4M sodium glucarate (pH=5.6), and $20{\mu}g$ of stannous chloride. The labeling efficiency was 90% with previous condition. The labeled $^{99m}Tc$-ECD was stable at least for 3 hours in PBS(pH=7.4) at room temperature. About 10mCi of $^{99m}Tc$-ECD was injected to normal volunteer, and SPECT image of brain was obtained by triple head camera 10 minutes after inection. The image showed similar distribution of radioactivity in brain with that of HMPAO image.

  • In an infrared optical system, using a cooled detector generates a phenomenon called a narcissus, in which the focal-plane array cooled to very low temperatures is reflected at the lens surface and detected. The narcissus can be removed by non-uniformity correction of the detector pixel, so narcissus is generally ignored in infrared optics. However, non-uniformity correction reduces the sensitivity of the system. Also, as the housing temperature varies due to an environmental temperature change, or a lens is moved for focusing or athermalization purposes, a narcissus may occur even after non-uniformity correction. To minimize such a narcissus, the amount of the effect must be controlled in the lens-design stage. In this paper we designed a midinfrared optical system and analyzed the narcissus by setting the lens surface reflectance to 1%. In addition, the design was divided into stages of an initial design, an improved design, and a minimum design, and the narcissus was improved to about 56% of that in the initial design.

  • This study was performed to develop ethogram of the Jindo dog's temperament categories under various conditions. A set of 12 behavioral tests were developed to investigate temperament categories expressed by the dogs. Fourty-three adult Jindo dogs(24 males, 19 females) from three different farms located in Jindo island were tested in 12 different behavioral tests. All test procedures and dog's behaviors responded to the tests were recorded using two digital video cameras and one digital still camera. A single observer reviewed all of the videotapes focused on dog's vocalization, movement, head, ears, eyes, mouth, and tail-positions. After all of the behavioral variables expressed throughout the testing period were described in detail, an ethogram of four temperament categories of 'sociability', 'aggression', 'fearfulness', and 'submission' revealed by 12 behavioral tests was developed.

  • This paper simulates the piping effect, found levees with large difference in coefficient of permeability within the foundation such as the Gim-po Levee, via centrifuge model test which is a model test. We have also conducted a numerical analysis under the same conditions as the centrifuge model test to compare its results. First, we decided to use the centrifuge model based on the Gim-po Levee, and the tests were executed on a model levee with pore water pressure transducers. We have found that most of the water flows through the permeable layer and causes the piping effect. Via video camera footage, we have found that the piping effect occurred at the toe of the model levee. The characteristic of pressure head distribution, obtained from the pore water pressure transducers, also proves the occurrence of the piping effect. The numerical analysis results also showed the same results as the centrifuge model test. We have simulated the piping effect via centrifuge model test and believe that the centrifuge model test is viable for various tests, predictions and evaluation of the levee problems.
