With the limited wireless resources, various traffic in the cellular system is served based on micro-cell or pico-cell structure. The rapid increase in the number of mobile users results in the frequent handoff which is becoming a critical issue. In this paper, we propose a channel allocation scheme to reduce the probability of handoff failure. In this scheme, we provide a guard channel for each service to handle the handoff processes. It maintains the low probability of failure in handoff calls. To prevent the performance degradation due to the traffic variation, we use a channel arbitration method that adaptively manages the number of channels based on the call density. We evaluated the performance in terms of the initial call blocking probability and the handoff call blocking probability for various traffic and motility. We found that the proposed scheme keeps the lower probability of call blocking through the efficient channel arbitration than other suggested methods even for the irregular traffic conditions.

In this paper, we analyze and propose the Joint Call Admission Control(JCAC) scheme to combine network selection scheme and radio resource reservation based Call Admission Control(CAC) in LTE-WLAN heterogeneous networks. First, We propose the JCAC system that uses network decision rate to select a network for terminal and radio resource reservation scheme in overlaying LTE-WLAN network environment. And we analyze the performance of a proposed system using markov chain model. The performance is presented in terms of the new call blocking probability, handoff call dropping probability, and channel utilization of each network. As a performance result of the our research, the system using JCAC is better than the system using non-JCAC. We found a suitable resource reservation rate that is 10% in the system using JCAC. Our work may be useful as a guideline of resource reservation rate to introduce JCAC system using resource reservation scheme in overlaying LTE-WLAN network environment.
This paper presents adaptive-MMOSPRED method for prediction of resource demands requested by multimedia calls, and shows the performance of the call admission control based on proposed resource prediction method in multimedia wireless networks. The proposed method determines (I-CDP) random variables of the standard normal distribution by using LMS algorithm that minimize errors of prediction in resource demands, while parameters in an existing method are constant all through the prediction time. Our simulation results show that prediction error in adaptive-MMOSPRED method is much smaller than in fixed-MMOSPRED method. Also we can see via simulation the CAC performance based on the proposed method improves the new call blocking performance compared with the existing method under the desired handoff dropping probability.

In this paper it is focused on the relation between CLR (Cell Loss Ratio) and blocking probability, GoS(Grade of Services) parameters in the wireless ATM (Asynchronous Transfer Mode) access network which consists of access node and wireless channel. Traffic model of wireless ATM access network is based on the cell scale, burst scale and call connection level. The CLR equation due to buffer overflow for wireless access node is derived for CBR (Constant Bit Rate) traffic. The CLR equation due to random bit errors and burst errors for wireless channel is derived. Using the CLR equation for both access node and wireless channel, the CLR equation of wireless ATM access network is derived. The relation between access network CLR and blocking probability is analyzed for CBR traffic.
In this paper, the communication performance and its characteristics of the polar Low Earth Orbit(LEO) mobile satellite have been described in terms of the generalized performance parameters via geometric modeling and analysis. Especially, the general formula related to the parameters such as the number of orbits(M) and the number of satellites per orbit(N) were derived in the LEO satellite system for voice service, and then we applied the general result to IRIDIUM system(M=6, N=11) that would be scheduled to commercialize soon. The offered traffic of Inter Satellite Link(ISL), ISL link blocking probability as well as both new call blocking probability and the probability of forced termination for the on going call are calculated as the result of performance analysis.

In this paper, we propose an adaptive Relay Station (RS) coverage extension scheme for the Mobile Multi-hop Relay (MMR) systems. The MMR system with a non-transparent mode RS can be used to extend BS coverage using the remaining capacity of the Base Station(BS). Thus, the call blocking may occur in RSs when calls arrive very often in Multi-hop Relay Base Station (MR-BS). In the proposed scheme, RSs can be connected to the neighbor MMR system as the 2ndtier RSs if the neighbor MMR system services low traffic load when calls are frequently arrived in MR-BS or RSs. By doing so, the MMR system can accept a new call without call blocking. Through numerical results, we demonstrate that the proposed scheme outperforms the conventional MMR system in terms of the throughput and call blocking probability of MMR systems.

A handoff call require more high QoS than that of a new call to satisfy continuity of communication on cellular networks. In case of a handoff call, after start connection of communication, the handoff call moves among cells. Therefore, Blocking of handoff call provides more bad service to respect to user. In this paper, we propose a 3 states guard channel schem to provide a stable environment of communication for a handoff call. The proposed scheme assigns the number of usable channels discriminatorily by distinguishing between of a new call and a handoff call. This scheme can reduce a handoff call blocking probability and improvement QoS of cellular networks. In this scheme, a handoff call classify by a partial handoff call and a full handoff call according to their handoff probability otherwise known as a previous guard scheme.

A multicast switch, which can provide a single uniform switching function for vastly different classes of traffic, is crucial for the successful deployment of intergrated broadband networks. In this paper, we study the call blocking probability of heterogeneous circuit emulated traffic in a multicast switch. A previous work on the analysis of homogeneous traffic, where all calls have the same fan-out, show the performance showed that the call blocking probability increases rapidly as fan out increases. We study the performance of heterogeneous traffic, which consists of calls of different fan out, and show the performance gaps between larger fan-out traffic and smaller fan-out traffic are larger than those of homogeneous traffic these results indicate the necessity of efficient resource allocation policies to improve the performance of multicast calls. We conclude the paper introducing several methods to improve the performance of multicast traffic.

In this paper, the performance of cognitive radio network is analyzed in terms of Erlang capacity. To improve the Erlang capacity with respect to primary user (PU) and secondary user (SU) traffic, we propose an efficient radio resource management scheme utilizing the buffer for new SUs and interrupted SUs. Markov model is developed, and analyzed to derive the performances of the proposed spectrum sharing scheme in both primary system and secondary system. To determine the Erlang capacity region, the blocking probability, the forced termination probability and the non-completion probability are calculated. Simulation results provide insight into the advantages of the buffer utilization. It is observed that the supportable traffic loads of PU and SU can be increased significantly according to the buffer length.

In this paper an imrpoved Signal-to-Interference ratio(SIR)-based call admission control(CAC) algorithm for DS-CDMA cellular system is proposed and its performance is analyzed. This algorithm uses Residual-Capacity defined asthe additional number of initial calls that a base station can accept such that system-wide outage probability will guaranteed to remain below a certain level. the residual capcity at each cell is calculated according to the reverse-link SIR measured not only at the home cell but also the adjacent cells. Then the adjacent cell interference-coupling coefficient .betha. is used. In this work we propose an improved algorithm that .betha. varies according to the traffic load of the home cell. The influence of traffic condition on system performance, namely blocking probability and outage probability, is then examined via simulation. The performance of the improved algorithm is evaluated both under homogeneous and hot spot traffic loads. The results show that the improved algorithm outperforms conventional algorithms under all load values. Under over-load situation, especially, the improved algorithm gives almost constant outage performance the QoS(quality of service) can be guranted.
